I did the update yesterday on my 320 and now birdseye doesn't work. What could it be and how do I get it back?

.

I would go to map and then from the menu select restore defaults and see what that does. You can also go into map setup and see if it is still selected. You didn't say. Did you have it loaded on a card or internally.

I plugged the 320 into the computer and deleted the birdseye folder. Then went to Basecamp and re-installed it. Seems to be OK now I have it loaded internally.

GARMIN!!! Why can't ya'll fix these Alphas'!!!!!????? Tonight was the first time I used it other than playing in the yard with it and it cut off on me TWICE! The second time I noticed it reset the total distance that my dog had went and both times it cut off I was on the home screen looking at the settings and proximity alarms. I have the latest update (4.2). It kinda irritates me that ya'll have such a hefty price tag on something that doesn't fully function! I have always bought Garmin products and been completely happy until now. I regret selling my 220 with dc 30s for this junk now! Sorry for the rant fellas but they have a problem with these units and just keep guessing on how to fix it. I and I'm sure plenty of other people would appreciate it if ya'll could get this fixed for good.

Do you have another DC 30. If so I would swap antennas which should take 5 minutes and see if that helps.

After using the Astro 220 and the DC30 and DC40 collars, I now am the proud owner of the Alpha system with the Tt10 collar. When I took it out of the box, charged it and paired the collar, all was fine. I took it out last night for a trial run in the woods and couldn't for the life of me get the Alpha to pick up the collar. I deleted it and paired it again. Did this twice to no avail. I haven't been following this thread and maybe the answer is here but any advice is appreciated.

When my Astro 220 and DC 30 collars poop out, I do not know what I will buy. It sure seems like many people are having problems with the Alpha. Many times it seems related to the Birdseye app. Steve, did you install Birdseye on your unit?

Steve when reading these post I have to try and look deep into what is being said to see what perhaps is being done and try and figure out the terminology of the user out, as theirs at times is not the same with the definitions of the ALPHA operation.

Please understand Steve I would rather talk to you on the phone than on the internet as I have a lot of respect for what you have done for coonhunting and in no way want my questions to sound demeaning.

You said you took it out of the box, charged and paired it. The collar comes from Garmin already PAIRED and I am wondering how you did this. You should not have been able to add this collar again. The ALPHA collar has two modes which are accomplished by how you hold the button when turning on. One mode is the normal start up mode and the collar give a slow single blink until it hooks up to Satellites then it goes to a double/triple blink. You turn it on in this mode by pushing the of/on button quickly and releasing. To pair the collar you hold the off/on button a few seconds and it will beep and flash fast.

Steve, I think the easiest route for you to go is to do a MASTER RESET and clear your handheld. This is done by putting a finger on the upper left portion of the screen and while holding finger on screen turn on. Keep the finger there until it starts and it will ask you if you want to erase information. Tell it yes then let it start up. Put your collar in the pairing mode. Attach it and see what happens. If you turn the collar off then when you restart it just push the button quickly and let it slow flash. It should pick up.

Steve if this doesn't work e-mail me a good number to call you at and I will get in contact with you. coondog123@aol.com

Thank you Bruce. I will echo your kind remarks because you have provided and continue to provide great service to our sport. Your devotion to this most helpful thread is proof of that.

I guess I misspoke. I simply added the "dog'," named it and it was good to go. Then when I activated the collar and handheld in the woods Friday night I could not receive the collar. I simply removed the dog, added it again, etc. in an attempt to accomplish tracking to no avail.

Lo and behold, I attempted the same here at home last night and it performed perfectly. I don't have a manual so I may not be exercising the proper protocol when turning on the collar and handheld? I was pretty savvy with the 220 but this is a different breed of cat.

I'm sure you are inundated with calls but may call you this week. Again, thanks for all you do for us.

A tip that has always worked for me on the 220,320 Garmin's and now the alpha I have is I never leave the house or the club house unless it is linked up and working. That way I don't have any issue's in the wood's. And believe me every time I didn't seemed like it always took longer to link up or I would have to relink them up. lol I just hit pause all tracking until we cut them loose.

Shane the first thing I would do is go to the track manager and clear out all old tracks. I know start new hunt is suppose to clear previous tracks but there are several places and ways tracks are saved.

The easiest way to do this might be to just do a master reset which will work unless you have a lot of information saved you don't want to loose.

One other thing. Make sure the batteries you are using are the ones that you have identified in the settings.

change out factory antenna to long range.factory ones go bad alot

change satellite setting to "waas/egnos".Dbls. number of satellites{usually 12 tracking all the time} and made my 320 and 30 collars work alot better.

Can a person use the 220 Garmin Astro to navigate a route like you would with a Tom Tom,or Nextar GPS Navigation system? I tried to with mine, but can't enter a destination other than a local one.I can enter where i'm starting from, but can't enter a location two states away.Only options i've found are cities close to me.Am i missing something,or am i trying to use this unit for more than it was intended?

When i do this,it draws a straight line to the destination.Doesn't follow the highways.I have routing in settings set to follow highways.I'm sure i'm missing a step somewhere.

I can't remember what button to push but you said you only get local destinations. Do the exact same thing your doing to get local destinations (it is finding cities near the cursor) but before you do, move the cursor close to where you want to go. It will then bring up cities near the cursor.

Question

On my garmin alpha under "select GPS Mode" does that need to be on normal or WAAS/ENGOS?

Thanks
