Elmo, Mann and I got beat! Mann did his part by slipping off and split treeing twice from the other three hounds. I just failed him in being able to locate the coon in one of the trees. Darn summer hunting sure will hide a coon. Had a good cast saw some coons, but when it was all said and done the deciding factor was me not being able to find that coon. I am not sure where the last few RQE's will be located in our neck of the woods?

Columbus IL is about 20 miles from Quincy and is the last RQE before the World. I have been there and it is good hunting. Tail fences though

Yep I just looked the last few up in our area...Kinder, Mo is a 5 hr trip, Fairbury,Nebraska is a 4.5 hour trip and Columbus is a 146 mile/2hr trip. So looks like I will switch gears from going to the State hunt to headed over to Columbus, IL.
Elmo I believe Mr. Baker, you and I headed over there a few years back. It was good hunting and you are right some tall woven wire fences. Down to the wire though, gotta try it

The hounds and I took a stroll last night right out my front door. Mann put one up about 300 ft in front of the house on the creek and him and Witch put a double up on the next drop 400 yards the other way. It was a great cornfield race, but dang I am paying for it with some nasty little cuts from the corn on my arms Gotta love it!

Finally got one treed, man that was a chore for the hounds last night. I am still not sure why they had so much difficulty. Hitting the timber tonight for some solo work for the hounds. Muggy weather for sure, good ole` August nights!
Talked with Brian Davis today, sounds like Brian really likes the way the pups out of Mann and his Dixie female are acting. That was good to hear!
Mr. Yoder dont forget call me back in the near future. We wil take Mann out for a spin, so you can see what he has to offer. I appreciate the call the other night, the wife would have tied me up if I would have switched plans on her

Well Mann and I took part in our first HTX hunt last night. We now officaially have our first pass. It took about 40 minutes to line the track out and get treed. I was starting to wonder if he was going to come out of the corn? I beleive that was the longest trail job we have had in a long while? Boy was it muggy and hot though! Everyone make sure you are given your hounds plenty shade and freshwater at home and in the woods.
Brian that would be great to see some updated pictures of the hound pups.

Elmo yes I did go and it was pretty darn toasty for sure! Well my hound pulled a "no-no" that cost him the cast win. We only dumped in one place. Everyone had pretty independent hounds so you know how the hunt went. Mann scored the first coon, which put us at 225+ and leading the cast. Hit the edge of the cornfield to listen for the one dog that was still out. We had to turn loose, we then burned the next hour up running track in the cornfield. I finally heard Mann locate and tree so I put him on the paper. I knew they had to be blazing hot so I did not want to wait any longer than we had to. Well... he left it!!!! I dont know why be he flat left it, not like him at all! A nice little 14 month redbone female backed him up on that one and she didnt leave it and of course the coon was there! So needless to say we did not win our cast. I guess as the saying goes: "There is always a next time"!

Hey Mike, I am sorry we did not get to chat man! I saw you sitting there but had a gentlemen talking to me and didn't want to be rude and cut him off. After that we were drawing out and I did not want to bother you. Sounds like you had a good hunt, the darn leaves sure make it challenging! Well at least another blue dog will have a chance to advance

Well Mann and I mustered his second HTX hunt pass last night. Boy the coon are not moving right after dark! It took a little bit to get one going and treed but he finally pulled it off. We will see about finishing this quest and starting on my Witch hound come October when the club has more scheduled. I am thinking of having Mann scheduled for a check up, he didn't act like his usual self last night. He was just a little sluggish and seem out of sorts. I am not sure what to make of it?
