Met Steve for a hunt. Steve had Maggie our walker gyp. I hunted Luke & Bonnie. First drop Luke & Maggie went .62 mile and come back. Bonnie went through the section but didn't open. Next drop they ran one 650 yds to a beaver hole. The hounds were back in the hole when we arrived and wouldn't come out. After a few rounds with the coon Luke drug him out. The gyps were brave until they jerked him away from Luke. It was swimming water and they got dunked a couple times. Luke got the coon by the head again and brought it to the bank. That was game over for the coon. Phil Davis and I ran that coon last week to the same hole. It won't happen with that coon again. Next drop 50 yds and got treed with a coon. Next drop Maggie ran a deer, Luke worked a track a couple hundred yards and treed a big oak. We never found a coon. Bonnie didn't run the deer but had went 700 yds, she covered Luke. Maggie quit the speed beef and come in after 30 minutes. Next drop 370 yds and got treed quick, coon seen. Next drop they went hunting good. All 3 were split up a half mile apart. Bonnie & Luke made it back to us & Maggie got treed with a coon.

It's been enjoyable hunting with the cooler temperature. Jim Moss invited me to Oklahoma for a hunt last night. Jim hasn't hunted much the past few years. We went to 7 trees with coon. We saw 17 coon total. I sure enjoy hunting the pecan groves this time of year.

Dave & Val Nelson from Wisconsin dropped by today for a visit. They spend the winter in south Texas. Dave hasn't hunted for years but still enjoys talking blueticks.

Met Steve for a hunt. I had Luke & Bonnie & he had Maggie. First drop I just let Bonnie go while putting the collar on Luke. We cut Maggie & Luke south into a pecan grove. Bonnie opened north around 200 yds and treed quick. She had a coon. Luke was treed 350 yrd into the pecan grove, Maggie went to Luke. They had a coon. Next drop the hounds go 1.5 miles. They were split up sometimes by a few hundred yds Maggie returns to the first mile road. Bonnie comes through the second mile. Luke gets treed 400 yes from where we gathered Bonnie. He was across big water so I called him to me. Next drop they go a half mile before splitting up. Maggie heads east, Luke hits a road and comes to where we had driven closer. Bonnie crosses the road and goes on. Maggie went back to where we originally sent from. Bonnie strikes 600 yes from where she crossed the road. She works a track over 500 yds and trees two big coon 50 yds behind us, next to the road.. One was a boar coon. Next drop the go in 390 yds and Bonnie blows up treed with Maggie locating right behind her 30 yes apart. Luke was with Bonnie. Coon in both trees. Next drop they get split up. Bonnie trees at .85 with a coon. Maggie and Luke treed 740 yds from Bonnie. There split 20 yes apart up big oaks and no coon seen.

Bob, we treed a few coon. The hounds had a difficult time getting struck on a couple turn outs. Through some exceptional coon country. Coon find a pecan tree early, fill their belly and go to sleep. Did your power tree a few?

Yep

Had a couple of good hunts but nothing like yours. Kid and Max did have a heck of a race in a swamp that ended with a good tree job and coon seen.

Steve and I had a good running coon last week out of a pecan grove to a big creek. Then a half up the creek crossing it a few times. The hounds made a loose for a couple minutes. Maggie & Bonnie blows up treed on a couple kittens. Luke doesn't back them nor gets treed. I sure don't believe they finished the track they ran.

Hunted with Jerry tonight. Jerry has a nice young Walker dog. First deal they struck at 450 treed at 650 with a coon. Next one struck at 340 went left handed running hard a few hundred yds & treed on a den tree. Next turn out 405 yes Luke blows up treed with a coon. Last dump strikes at 210 yds & takes a good track to 420 yds and has the coon. I forgot about the one in a big pecan grove. The hounds went close to a half mile and treed a coon after working on a cold track.

Tuesday night I met Steve for a hunt. Steve had Maggie, i hunted Luke & Bonnie. Maggie & Bonnie each treed one alone. Bonnie got to herself at .81 miles with a coon. Maggie split off on a track and treed one. They all ran a good track and treed one. Maggie had a den tree that Bonnie didn't tree on. Luke had went through the section and was in the box.

Tonight I didn't go until after 10:30. Luke treed just over 800 yds, Bonnie had treed 30 yds from him but pulled to him. Next deal Bonnie trees just over 500 yds with a coon, Luke had went on 350 yds and put one in a beaver hole. They both ran one 270 yds and tree a den tree. Last dump around 800 yds and trees a coon in a persimmon tree. The best deal was I drove close to every tree. That sure speeds up the coon treeing.

Phil Davis was up for a hunt. We were sending Luke & a young Big Country gyp that Phil brought. Then Bonnie & Phil's gyp, Joey was hunted together. Luke treed 4 trees with coon, Breez treed 2 with coon. Last tree they were together on a big triple oak tree and no coon seen. Bonnie & Joey treed 1 tree together and split one time with coon. They had a couple slick trees together. Breez had a big oak that we didn't find her coon and Bonnie treed on a den tree. I believe we went to 13 trees.

Hunted last night with Ed Green. He has a mate to Like & Bonnie. Abby is going to make a real nice hound. We made 3 trees watch coon, a couple slick trees & a couple den trees. Later I sent Bonnie alone she caught one on the ground. Sent Luke south & Bonnie north, both treed a coon. Together they ran one hard in a standing corn field and stretched it out.

Tim brought Kate & John for a hunt. I took Luke & Red Reb. It was the 4th hunt for John & the second hunt for Reb. The pups just turnt 7 months old. They don't come back and will be at the tree. A half mile or deeper doesn't seem to matter. Kate had split off and put one in a hole, Luke got there just before we arrived. The pups were getting evolved also. The coon was snarling at the dogs. We got Luke & Bonnie back and squealed the coon out. The battle was on. Pups were getting chewed on and John got the worst of it. He got back but didn't give up. Reb was more aggressive and was going for the kill. Tim & I both like how the pups are doing. Kate & Luke ended up treeing 4 other trees with coon. We saw some small coon in the road on the way home. The pups sure got fired up on them and treed a little on one.

Combs headed up tonight. I believe I'll dry hole him. Well he got wind of a snake in the grass and cancelled.

I haven't visited with Rod Rose if that's who your asking about for over a year. He was hunting a couple gyps that he was enjoying.

Blacklabel

The faults that my hounds have are too numerous to list. I just wish they didn't tree so many coon. I get tired walking to trees that I cant drive to. Didnt get out until 8 and got in around 12. Made 4 trees with coon, one den tree and big oak with lots of leaves. Its slick if I don't find a coon. Last night 5 trees with coon, no slicks, no dens. The hounds I am hunting were 2 years old September 26. Head down 44 to exit 1, head north on 400 15 miles and you can see all the faults. Come when the moon isn't bright and I believe we should tree 7 to 12 trees with coon. We'll send one or both doesn't make any difference to me. You'll be able to remove a few faults and add some others. 620 762 1344

My self evaluation: not as good as I wish they were but not 4 sale.
One thing I'm pretty sure about is if you have a hound that trees lots of raccoons and catches a few there a decent track dog.

No problem, my hounds have plenty of faults, they must keep me happy since I feed them.

It had been some time since Matt had been over for a hunt. Matt had Moe and his Irene pup, Scout. I hauled Luke and Reb. Luke & Moe worked good together. Treed 5 trees with coon and caught one on the ground. Coon quit moving about 9:30. They made a .75 mile search in a pecan grove without a bark. On the next drop went 2.8 miles by the garmin. That was distance traveled through 2 different sections with only a couple barks by Moe. Reb went good on a few drops but must of wore out. Both pups jumped right in the middle of the coon fights. Scout treed good on a couple hang ups. Just a little exposure and both will be treeing coon.

Hi Dennis,

Hope all is well. Wished I would have had more time to visit with you at the Fall Roundup but could only stay a short time. Had to send Floyd down south and brought Jack up north for the winter. Our 9 day deer gun season is over today so we will be able to hit the timber again this week. My son has been chomping at the bit to get back out. Going to hunt the Jack male and work on a young male here the rest of the hide season and see if we can scare a few up. If this work life of mine ever slows down I would sure like to come down for a hunt with you. Always enjoy watching a few top hounds tree a few.

Take Care,
Scott

Scott, it's been pretty good hunting around here the past couple months. A little taste of winter 10 days ago and today is cooler and windy. Deer season opens Wednesday but that doesn't hurt my coon hunting much. Just let me know if your headed south for a few nights of hunting.

Tim Stone was up for a hunt. Kate was in season. Tim had his old Chief dog and John. I took Bonnie & Reb. Pups went good on every turnout. I brought Bonnie home after the second turnout and grabbed Luke. The hounds had a decent track in a standing corn field. Hope the farmer doesn't cut it until March. The coon are thick in it. We had 5 trees with coon by 10:30 and headed for the recliner. My hunts often are 5 trees with coon. That's my goal to consider a hunt a good one. I figure if I hunt 50 nights during our 90 day season and average 5 trees with coon, my hounds should know why we go hunting.
