Hunt

Well just rolled in from hunting. First drop turned Cotton alone. First time she has been out in 3 wks due to being in heat. She left in a dead run and got struck in at 375yds. She worked an old track around side of hill down thru bottom about 400yds and then just blowed up on tree. She treed solid and we finally got to her thru some rough stuff. She was treed on a power pole sized tree that ran into a big den tree. I didn't see the coon but she did a good job and has been deadly accurate. Second drop I turned BB and Rickett loose. Rickett struck and ran a short hot track but BB never opened and was soon standing by my side. Hopefully I have her attention. Think Rickett was messing with dillar. We caught him up on an old logging road and called it a night. Gone hit it again thurs night!!! Y'all keep'em lookin up!! Darren.

hunting

Hunted last night. Turned Cotton alone down big creek. She struck pretty quick and worked down creek. She crossed the creek and headed back towards us. She turned and went up a side ditch full of water and lined him out. She crossed under the road and loaded up on tree. Huge water oak and couldn't spot the coon. Turned Cotton, BB and Kandy (Drakes new pup ) loose. Cotton struck followed by BB and Kandy. They worked the track down the creek and crossed over to other side. Cotton loaded up quickly followed by BB. Drake's pup was trailing around by herself. We got to tree and it was a big Sweet Gum tree. It took me forever to find the coon but with Drake beating on tree and shaking vines, he finally looked with one eye. I kept squalling and Drake was shaking vines and he walked down the tree to those two blue gyps. That was a deathly mistake. Drake's pup came in and got fired up on the coon. She is 6mths old and seen one coon at 3mths old. This was her second coon and she liked it. Laid a drag for her and she found him but didn't really light up the tree. She has been hunted about 5 times and seems to have some go power. She wants to be alone as well, so time will tell. Joe Moyer raised her and she is Doubled up on Rambo II.

Had a good conversation yesterday with my buddy Stanly Bowling. Stanly is an intelligent guy and is dedicated to trying to better the Bluetick breed. Stanly is also a stand up guy that will tell it like it is for sure!!

Also had a good conversation with Raymond Caswell from Missouri. I have talked to Raymond several times and he is fun to talk to about these ole Blueticks. He has a lot of knowledge about bloodlines and has hunted with some big name hounds.

Terry Tibbs is another stand up Bluetick man that I talk to a lot. Terry is a stand up guy as well and is trying to breed a better bluetick.
All 3 of these gentlemen are getting up in age and I soak in a lot of our conversations. Guys like myself will have to carry the torch for these blueticks one of these days. I sure aint a know it all and any thing I can learn about breeding or training I sure am willing to listen.

I am going on vacation today thru Tuesday and will have meetings in Montgomery for work on Wednesday, so my hunting is on hold til next Thursday. I will be having withdrawals!!!!
Good luck to all bluetickers this weekend. PKC bluetick days is just down the road from me and hope they have a good turnout and hunt.

HUNT

Well I got back at it last night. Took Cotton, BB, and a couple pups last night. We had some rain and a few thunderstorms but most of it blew over about dark. First turnout I cut Cotton and a male pup ( littermate to my pup that got ran over). Pup was sick from riding in truck and didn't go with Cotton. He did hunt out some on his own and checked some trees. He has treed on hot tracks already. Cotton left hard and soon opened at about 350yds. She opened about 5 times and was drifting out each time. She fell treed and treed good. We got in to the tree and she was up a den but had another tree growing up that was not a den. They were joined at the base. The coon was up the tall tree. Cotton did a good job on the coon. Got back to the truck and my buddy that owns some land I hunt on was sitting there on his 4 wheeler. He hunts some as well and we are partners on a male out of GrNtCh Big Time Albert. He had turned him alone but he didn't hunt out too well. We went to his place and turned BB, his dog Train, and Drakes pup Kandy loose. They left out and soon ole Train struck and was trailing pretty good. BB never opened and soon was back at the truck. I told Josh that Train wasn't running a coon but probly a Dillar. He said he just turned one down awhile ago. We walked in woods and a big Dillar came by us followed by Train. He gave him a good thrashing. I got Cotton out of box and cut her and BB and Drakes pup loose. They struck in at 250yds and worked an old bad track back towards us. BB and Cotton both did a good job of moving the track and got treed up a big water oak. I couldn't find coon but he could have been there as I couldn't find a place to see the tree very well. Gone get after them tomorrow night. Got a new male that is a GOOD looking sucker. He is bred great and is treeing his own coon. Got some issues to work out but time will tell.

Hunt

Me and Drake went for awhile last night. First drop we turned BB and My new male Charlie loose. BB struck about 100 yds in and started working a track. Charlie opened left handed and BB made her way over towards him. They worked the track about 300 yds and BB loaded up followed by Charlie. They treed hard and had meat. Second drop I turned Cotton and my stoker pup. Cotton struck a bad track and started working it down bottom. She got a little hung up one time but hushed and skipped out. Pup opened a few times as track got better. Cotton worked about 375 yds down bottom and loaded up. She had coon but my pup wasn't there. He had gotten split off and was opening about 200 yds left of Cotton. Finally walked in to him and caught him up. It was 12:30 am and we called it a night. Be back at it hard next week. HUNT

Going after them tonight!! Gone hunt ole Cotton hard and really hit some hunts to see if we can get anything done. She has looked good since going out of heat. We have been getting after some ole bad tracks. Be glad when my coons start stirring during normal hours. Blackberries are getting ripe around here so maybe that will get them back to normal. With all the cutover we have, there should be plenty of berries for them to eat. Just hate having to wade thru a briar thicket everytime you turn loose.I want to congratulate my buddy Jason Myers on his wins with his Rocky dog. I have hunted with Rocky on several occasions and he will get gone and get treed. He is a nice little dog. Y'all Keep'em Lookin' Up!!

hunt

Well went after them last night for a little while. Hunted some pups and my young dogs. First drop turned Charlie and two pups loose. Matt Smith went and took his pup. Drake took his pup. Charlie left out and hunted good. Both pups didn't hunt too well but didn't stand at our feet. Charlie hunted out about 275 yds and swung back by us. I caught him up and Got Cotton out of box. I turned Cotton and pups loose. Cotton left out in a dead run and left pups. Cotton struck in at about 575 yds and we caught up pups and drove around. Cotton was working and old bad track and I turned Charlie back in to her. Before he could get to her she loaded up and treed. Charlie backed her and they blew the top out. They were treed in a beaver pond. Matt's pup treed some on it. First time he had been in woods. We couldn't find coon as trees were all growed together and couldn't see much. Turned loose off that tree and they struck a pretty good track. They worked it across bottom to the creek which was flowing hard because of all the rain we had yesterday evening. They could never get him him figured out as he crossed back and forth several times across creek. I walked in and caught them up and it was getting late. Got home and got in bed at 1:00 am. Fun night!! Gone stay after them, just be glad when I can strike some decent tracks again. Been some rough hunting lately. Yall keep'em lookin up!! Darren

HUNT

Hunted by myself last night. First drop turned BB and Charlie loose. BB struck in about 200yds and Charlie joined in soon. They worked and decent track in bottom and got it up and going good. That coon has been ran before as he wasn't climbing easy. He took them around a big slew and back to the creek a couple of times. They really start putting some pressure on him and he climbed. BB loaded up and Charlie backed her. they lit the tree up. Charlie is a Classy, Hard Tree dog when he loads up. Got to them and they were on a HUGE cypress tree. It took me about 15 minutes but I finally seen the meat. They really did a great job on him. I got to the truck at 10:30. Next drop I took Cotton to the luxapalilla creek and turned her out. I have been putting her in some rough areas to test her. There is lots of running water and high banks on this creek. Cotton struck in at about 400yds and it was not a very good track. She worked that track nearly a mile down the creek and was doing a good job on him. She finally got treed but I couldn't find her coon. Rolled in at 1:00 am and got in bed at 1:25 am. Two drops, hate this time of year. Gone go again tonight!! Yall keep'em lookin up! Darren

Charlie

This is Charlie. He is a classy up on the wood tree dog. He is a little over two and has a few issues. Time will tell if I can straighten him out. He has the tools to be a really nice hound.

HUNT

Went for awhile last night. Turned Cotton alone first drop. I've been putting her in some of the roughest hunting that I've got. Cotton went about 175yds in blackberry bushes in an overgrown field. She struck just inside the woodline on the Luxapililla Creek. She really put the pressure on and soon let out her big screaming, caught in a steel trap locate and lit up the tree. I got in there and she was on a HUGE poplar tree. I looked for about 10 minutes and gave up. Im sure she had him but I just couldn't get him to look. Having a hard time getting coons to look here. May need to try a different sqauller. Next drop I turned Charlie out alone. He hunted about 200 yds and checked back in to me. I leashed him up and walked him to some good timber a recut him. He struck a track but didn't finish it. Probly some trash of some kind. We are over run with dillars, so I would bet that was it. He came back by me and went down the creek. He went about 250yds and never got struck. Finally caught him up and called it a night. Got home at 12:00 am. Headed to Cullman tomorrow night to a UKC hunt and show. See what I can get done. make them look

take a small alluminum bat or a good size rock it has been the only way i can get them to look latley they have been in the black berrys and treeing in a lot of wild cherry let my feeders get empty these pups have been having to go find a track but been treeing two or three a night that moon was bright last night and the dogs were sounding good nothing else like it good luck tonight beet on them trees!

Took cotton to Cullman and hunted and showed in ukc hunt. Won best of show female and won first place in hunt with 725+. She looked good.

Cotton

Thanks guys. We were in some rough hunting but they had coons. Cotton got split twice with meat. Last coon, all dogs left hard cotton peeled left and opened. She skipped out and blowed up on tree. Had meat. Also had a circle tree and had a coon after hunt ran out. She was still pulling on leash wanting some more after the hunt!!! Need one more to ntch her. Thanks again guys she turned two last week, so she is just gone get better. Darren
