Got this message facebook from Cam O'Mara today, thought I'd share:

"Got 6 coyote the last two days. Topper ran really good on one of the three each day. And then just ran with the pack on the other ones. Today he got messed up on on and brought an old track out."

Topper's been doing a good job all winter with not much hunting. Ran a solo coyote each day by himself. Plan on breeding him to Crow within the next couple of months.

I was planning on going to Ashland today to visit, but I worked a Red Wings Alumni game here in Port Huron last night and my ankles and knee gave out on me. Would of been nice to see everyone in Ashland. I hope to make it to Brazil, Indiana next month for the Spring Board meeting and Reunion.

After 15 weeks and 4 days of winter leaving me home and out of the timber, Trueboy and I hit it tonight during a cold 20 degree night with a west wind blow steady and cold. We saw coon running all over the place, even so one coming out of a fence row that leads back into one of my old honey holes, crossing the road in front of me and then down the road ditch behind me. He would've hit a culvert under the road before I could've got Trueboy on him, but it did make for excited conversation with Ken Hitchcock, who I had on the cell at the time. First drop was west of town in the old Mater woods that I've hunted since I was 12 y/o. The owner and I grew up together and I helped him and his late father on their dairy farm when we were teenagers. Trueboy went in the south end of the woods where it meets the road and worked his way west a little slower then I liked. He then picked up the pace and cut north along the west edge of the woods 500 yards from the truck. He opened near a ground den and hung around there for a few minutes before coming east and then south back to the truck. No tree, but he worked the woods like he should, fast and quick. We drove south and saw 4 coons running through the neighbors yard. I could not turn on them were they sat. I then turn east to the Beaver farm and saw 2 more coons near houses on my way to a new turnout. Coon were moving good! I hit the woods behind the Beaver farm house. Trueboy headed hard to the west, came out to the north and took the old fence line across to the neighbors. He then looped back to the east and the road before cutting the fence row north of the Beaver farm house, hitting a track and carrying it loud and clear back over the the woods, treeing 340 yards from were I first turned loose. I made it back there, surprised the deep snow was crusted up enough to hold up my old fat ass. It was a nice maple den I've treed on a few times the past 20 years of hunting back here, but I got some nice photos and a little video with my new camera. It was fun and relaxing to hear Trueboy again after such a long lay off:

Here's a video of Trueboy from tonight: Click on it to get it going!

Trueboy made a nice run tonight. The property owner told me there were 2 coon out in the field 2 hours before I got there to turn loose. Trueboy struck track near where the coon were seen and ran the track into a huge maple den. I show coon tracks in the snow around the tree, but no coon on the outside. Made a second dump across the road. Trueboy ran a huge loop, covering about 80 acres of open ground, a fence row, squall, and woods with no tracks struck. Trueboy came in and we called it a night.

Video from tonight:

I had a nice talk with Justin Farmer, a fine young bluetick houndsman and bear hunter from the UP this afternoon. I hope I was able to impart some history of the bluetick breed and the line of hounds both Justin and I hunt. Hopefully I can be some help Justin maintain his blood and add to it in the future. I felt a kindred spirit today talking to Justin. He has some good mentors behind him with the likes of Ken Hitchcock, Jim Shepard, and that group of houndsman. Hopefully the snow will leave and give Justin and his brother a chance to run a bear yet this spring before the state shuts us done for the spring.

Took a side trip home from work tonight and stopped by to see my old friends Ernest and Robin Taylor and the Pepper female they bought from me last September. Pepper is off of Ben X Crow and she is a beautiful young gyp who is well taken care of and loved. I wish I would've been able to keep her, but she is close and if she comes around and makes a hound (which is should) I'll find a good stud to breed her to down the road. It was a fine visit with the Taylors, and I'm glad to see Pepper turn out to be such a fine looking gyp.

Came home last night from a nice weekend in Traverse to find Crow bleeding fairly well. She was acting like she was coming in heat when I left last Friday morning, but wasn't bleeding yet. I figure she'll breed this coming Sunday or Monday based on her past history. Talked to Cam and he said Topper is like him, ready to go! Of course I said I hope not, that I hope Topper can close the deal and get her bred... We'll know soon enough~

Crow was dropped off today to spend the next few days with Topper. If all goes well, we'll have pups by the end of June.

Went to check on Crow today and found her knotted up with Topper... Thank God! Called Cam and he didn't answer because he was out calling turkeys for his cousin. Called Kyle and he was smoking a brisket... and my thought was what else was he smoking... Some dog breeders I hooked up with this time - LOL. At least I know Topper can finish with a female, now if only one of his owners learn from him... one not named Kyle...

If hell doesn't freeze over and the creek don't rise, Crow should have pups by early July.

I've been checking Crow's temperature the last few days. This morning it was below the 99 degree threshold. Pups should be coming today or tomorrow.

Pups came on the 30th. Two days and all are alive and doing well. Praying it holds a couple more days to be sure. I have a count, but waiting for a couple days to make sure all live before I call it. Crow is being very protective, even bit me tonight. That's never happened before, but the pups look good now and are all being fed with full stomachs...

Crow and Topper's pups are growing and doing well. Cam O'Mara is hunting Trueboy for me tonight and tomorrow night while the weather is cool. Hopefully he send me some pictures and Trueboy will do well for him.

A photo for a few years back: Guy Ormiston and Buzz Anderson. Myself with Poorboy and John Vanderbeck with Score, a littermate to Poorboy. Both males out of Buzz' Blue Buck X Gr.Nite.Ch. Ormiston's Texas Sheba. A nice cross that carries heavy in my line of hounds.

Nice looking addition to your kennel Jim. I like the way her pedigree looks. I hope she works out really good for you.

That's Trueboy in the background. Have some saddle backs in the yard for sure! Thanks Mike!
