Had a horrible hunt the first dump last night. Second dump went better but was an endurance run. I posted on Turks thread how it went. The first thirty minutes I stripped Smoke of all his titles but he gained them back by the end of the night. Hunted down by Fulton on the Little Osage, man is it dry and rough.
Hows it gonin on the East Coast?

Dry and dusty here. Tracking is tuff. Hunted Smoke and Robin together and Smoke pushes the track hard enough to warm it up and get a coon treed while Robin beats the track to death. She has learned to trust Smoke and quit her booticking and go on.
Ole Smoke can make it happen and end up with a coon.
Robin on the other hand needs more hunting and last night I walked in and kicked her on and she put a coon up 300 yards from where she hung up on the track.
I'm going again tonight with just Robin down in the river bottom.

A lot of good dogs are having a tough time getting a coon treed during this dry spell, things will look alot better as soon as there is some moisture in the ground. Don't get to down on her or you can just send her this way, I have an empty pen..........Tim

But it is cooling off. We have a 40% chance of rain tonight and tomorrow. Maybe it will get better then.
Iv'e been working long hours at work again and I'm just roading the dogs. Hope to get in the timber in a night or two. I'm on 10 hour days, seven days a week for the next month. So we will be sticking close to home for a while. Worked till midnight two days in a row and then worked days and turned around and worked midnights the same day. I'm streached a little thin right now.
Hope that if we get the rain we can start Cletus and Lacey also. They both seem to be ready for the timber. Smoke wont like it much. He will let them tag along for a while but then he will get out of dodge and get alone. So I get to kill two birds with one stone. Start the pups and make Smoke even more independant at the same time.
Still hunting Robin alone though.

Smoke was wound like an eight day clock. First dump he never opened on track. Went in 550 yards and just sit down and treed. Had three kitten coon. Sent him on and he got a track going at about 330 yrds, moved it out of the choped corn and in to a bean field where it got hot. Ran a good track and treed 200yrds back toward the truck on the river. Had a litter again.
Droped Robin in a bean field where she opened and moved a fair track for about 300 yrds and give that long locate that she has and it was all over for that coon. She looked good.
Made one more drop with her and hit a hot track that she slamed the tree 150yrds from the truck and had the coon. Left that one and went home.
Still no rain but we are getting a light sprinkle this morning. Got a 50 to 60% chance of rain for the next two days. We can only hope and pray.

We bred her too late, NO PUPS.
But I have a female that is out of Drip that should be due the last of Oct. out of Smoke. She is a super good looking houndy female with alot of leg. Hunts hard but doesn't have a very good mouth on her. She is a high pitch bawl mouth track dog and chop mouth on tree. She just chokes down bad after she trees a while. We are saving a male and female out of this cross for our selves.

Still waiting on NtCh Lou to come in. She will be bred to Smoke this time and our plans are to breed her back to Turk next year.

NtCh Robin wont be bred till late next year, The search for the right stud is on going. Thinking about several but just havn't narrowed it down yet.

Had a good hunt last night with Doug Linn. First place the coon had been down during the afternoon and were setting up, we had a split tree about 10 yards apart and counted 9 coon in the two trees Froggy on one and Ranger on the other. The next place they worked a bad track through the timber, across a bean field, across a big corn field into a thicket and got treed. It was so thick in the timber that you could hardly walk upright, we finally made it to the tree and could only look up in one spot and seen 3 coon there could have been more if we could have shined more of the tree............Tim

Had a good hunt last night. Met up with Eldon Purdy who raised and trained X Jr before he sold him to Jess. Eldon liked Smoke and Robin. He said that they could drive a track like X and his sister used to. He really liked Robin on tree. On our first dump both dogs opened about 100 yrds in and put it to running right away. Went 780 yrds and Robin treed ahead of Smoke. They both came on like they were looking at it. Had two coon. Next dump Eldon showed me a spot that is off the river 1/2 mile and turned them into a bean field that Smoke struck in and took it to the corn. Robin opened at the corn and they run that one hot to the river. The garmin showed them in .6 of a mile. Robin got the tree on Smoke again. Had a litter that we could see going in. Had a good night and Eldon bragged on both of them.

Timmy ( Ks Mad Dog Jr ) is comming in sometime tonight from the east coast. He is an insurance adjuster and has been working the damage that was done on the east coast. I told him to limber up his hunting boots.
He wont be in till late tonight so I will hunt the dogs tonight by myself.
We have had a little rain that has improved the tracking but the creeks are still dry so I'll be hunting the river again. I have had some good hunts on the river but the banks are super steep and even though I can cross about anywhere it is hard to get up and down.
Might take 9 month old Cletus who is out of Turk and Cleo. He is ready to start and will go with the old dogs but hasn't opened on track yet.

again last night. First dump Robin struck first and slammed a coon in front of Smoke about 100 yrds from where I turned loose. Cast them on and Smoke struck first 300yrds in. They both ran a good track and they both treed about the same time. They were in 560 yrds. When I got within 100 yrds of them I could tell that they were split. They both had a coon. Smoke had a big coon at the top of a hackaberry and Robin had a kitten coon in a mulberry tree about 30 yrds away. Good night with some awsome dog work. Robin looked better then ever.

Timmy has been hunting with me almost every night. We are just trying to keep them tuned and in shape.
Took the two young dogs on seperate nights and exposeing them to the woods and action. They show promise and they both have the want to.
It's getting dry again and makes for some rough tracking for the youngsters.
Timmy and I will be heading to Altoona this weekend and next weekend we will be in the Missouri Invitional finals with Smoke and Robin.

Its been getting really dry up here and expect it to be the same at Altoona. They have allways put me in good hunting so we should tree a few coon.

Umbie. Friday night we didn't do any good. Saturaday night Timmy lost his cast but still had a very good hunt.
I hunted Robin and won my cast. Robin treed two coon by herself and ended up Zone1 night hunt Queen overall for the year.
We had a great time both nights and ate enough ribs to drive cattle prices even higher.

He is getting better and better each time in the timber but he is still a ham and loves the bench. He is bulking up with a big broad chest...
