I realize what the dollar sign represents but the question is, will the general public see it as HSUS? In other words, will they know that is says HSUS or will they think it is something different. Also, like I said before, not very many people know what HSUS means. A lot more know them by their full name, not the acronym.

And that's why this poster works!

If they don't know what H$U$ stands for they'll make an effort to find out who or what is threatening their pets.
Also, the print on a poster or billboard will be MUCH larger. I designed display ads for ten years, so understand what makes readers take notice.

With all your experience you know the value of making sure the product being sold is recognizable at a glance. Just thought you'd like an opinion. I did searches on Yahoo and Google on "H$U$" and got zero hits on the HSUS. I did get a lot of hits on some chinese dude named "Hu". If the public has no idea what it is it's pointless.

There should be a web address on it. Perhaps activistcash.com would be willing to co-op the ad.

Proposition for BLCKRIVRREDBONES

If you become a major fund raiser and financial contributor to this project, then certainly your opinions would become important.

I would have no interest in going into any type of business proposition with you since your inability to take constructive criticism proves you are an arrogant, narcissistic S.O.B.

Billboard vendors

I've been talking to billboard vendors - it's a very complex industry. But I'm learning about the semantics to get the most for the money. A very nice young man in South Dakota caught on right away as to why I was billboard shopping. I LOVED his suggestion of putting the "DODO" billboards next to the headquarters of HSUS and PETA. His mother is a breeder of a couple of small breeds so he's well aware of the AR programs. I'm still getting prices & suggestions - discovering that a lot of people HATE HSUS & PETA. When I get prices & stats nailed down it will be time to think of sponsors - possibly Responsible Pet Owners Alliance, Humane Watch, SAVOA, etc., etc., etc.????? Unless we find a "Wealthy Uncle," or someone similar it will probably take several sponsors to make this work.

NC & HSUS

Humane Society addresses state puppy mills bill
By Kathryn Kennedy
The Daily Reflector
Thursday, March 25, 2010
The North Carolina director for the U.S. Humane Society visited Greenville on Thursday night to mobilize support for a state bill banning puppy mills.

Kimberly Alboum addressed a group of 25 animal-rights advocates and animal control officials for two hours, the majority of which was spent on lobbying tips and N.C. Senate Bill 460.

The bill would allow animal control officers to break up puppy mills — facilities mass-producing puppies for commercial sale, often under inhumane conditions. To be classified as puppy mills, facilities must contain at least 15 female dogs and 30 puppies, and owners must have an intent to sell the animals, the bill states. Enforcement would be complaint-driven, Alboum said.

“This is not going to impact the hunters,” she said. “This is not going to impact the NRA. Not hunting dogs. Not show dogs either.”

The bill stalled in the finance committee last year, but Alboum said she expects it will be revisited in the legislative short session, which begins in May. She said the number of puppy mills in the state has increased because neighboring states have tightened their laws.

Several attendees stressed that the numbers stated in the bill were too high. They said action should be taken in facilities with fewer than 15 female dogs and 30 puppies.

Alboum said that animal rights in the state will progress in “baby steps,” and the bill is a compromise that will protect responsible hobby breeders. She said multiple times that animal advocates must escape the label of “crazy animal people.”

One attendee asked where dogs end up after being removed from puppy mills. Alboum said the Humane Society and other rescue groups step in to care for the animals.

An animal control officer asked those attending the meeting to lobby local officials to fund and support her profession. As communities become more aware of animal welfare laws, there is plenty of work but not enough staff, she said.

Alboum also addressed fox and coyote penning, a practice originally begun to train hunting dogs. She said the practice has evolved from an exercise to a blood sport and expressed support of a bill expected to come before state legislators that would ban penning.

She briefly mentioned several other animal welfare bills before federal elected officials: one aiming to stop the practice of taking horses to Canada or Mexico for slaughter; another calling for truth in labeling when real fur is used in clothing; and a third phasing out chimpanzee research.
Audience members closed the meeting by asking about issues affecting Pitt, Wilson and Beaufort counties. Issues raised included spay-and-neuter initiatives, dog fighting, factory farms, chaining and tethering pets, the sale of exotic animals and shelter overcrowding.
Alboum applauded the spirit of North Carolina’s animal advocates, of which 240,000 are U.S. Humane Society members. But she cautioned that “systemic change” is needed to really make a difference.
“Our head is always down in a task,” she said. “We’re dealing with feral cats; we’re dealing with dogs, horses. We’re not picking our head up long enough to really mobilize.
“We always think somebody else is working on the big picture. And that’s just not the case.”

Your post was chilling & representative of HSUS operations. They "get a foot in the door" and expand their power.
While talking with a salesperson for a billboard vendor company I discovered her company already does the billboards in Austin, Texas for HSUS and THLN (Texas Humane Legislation, a legislative branch of HSUS) so she felt her company couldn't do the billboard I proposed. I've contacted another company - waiting for response. Right now I've learned a billboard is possible in Rapid City near Mount Rushmore for $1,200 - $1,500 for one month. That's a small city - but it DOES have many tourists from across the USA. And a billboard in a major city can be as much as $5,000 - $9,000. The goal is to get a billboard where the MEDIA will zoom in on it, carry on with publicity and recognize our cause, realizing HSUS/PETA need to be flushed down the drain.

BILL BOARD AGAINST HSUS

I wonder if any of the KC's would be interested in donating to the fund. Or even the big light and tracker dealers etc. What about individuual breeders. I mean if alot of hunters donated only $2.00 it would be very possible. Maybe UKC would even start a fund that one could donate to. Just a few ideas to throw out there.

Maybe they would let us have a free ad in the bloodlines with the idea and a form that someone could fill out and send in a donation. With all the hunters and other posibliities this thing is possible and should be done.

Dose anyone that reads this have any thoughts on the idea? If you do get them out here for all of us to see and think about.

HELLO MEGAN

were still here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you have a web site address for the bill board co. that has the HSUS board or e-mail address post them so we can tell them how dissapointed we are that they do anything for an outfit like them.

IDEAS

Maybe even the American Cooner and Full Cry would put out an ad or donate. And I think there is a Big Game Hound publication or Bear Hunter Mag out there. What about beagles and retrievers?

AT IT AGAIN

POSTED BY LARRY ATHERTON

Michigan Hunters-Take Action Against HSUS
The nation's largest anti-hunting group is at it again. The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has been lobbying Michigan lawmakers over the past few weeks about legislation that would authorize the NRC to issue orders for a science-based, limited harvest Moose season in Michigan. The reason? Because HSUS is opposed to any type of hunting (and food animal agriculture).

HSUS has issued an action alert asking members of the Michigan House of Representatives to vote "no" on Senate Bill 1013 (Sen. Allen, R-Traverse City). The worst part is not that HSUS is based in Washington, D.C. and has hired a lobbyist and staff member in Michigan to defeat bills like S.B. 1013 that promote science-based wildlife management, nor the fact that they categorize their anti-hunting action alert under "animal abuse," but that they are intentionally lying to legislators about the bill.

HSUS's state director has been working overtime in the misinformation department lately. You may recall her Detroit Free Press editorial recently where she suggested that Michigan's wolf population still belongs on the Endangered Species List (despite that they're currently 1,000 percent above the ESA population goal) and that hunters are the reason for the animal's demise. She's also a former employee of another animal-rights group, FARM, which was behind the whole "meat is bad for you - 'Michigan Meatout Day'" we experienced last week. Here are some of HSUS's latest whoppers on Senate Bill 1013 (they were voiced to House lawmakers last week):
• Lie #1: Michigan's moose population is "too fragile" to sustain a hunting season.
o FACT: Wildlife biologists estimate that Michigan has roughly 580 moose in the Upper Peninsula - about 100 in the East U.P. and 480 in the West U.P. This growing population is large enough to sustain about 12 moose harvested each year - most or all of which would occur in the Western U.P.
• Lie #2: Creating a limited-harvest hunting season will harm Michigan's moose population.
o FACT: Additional funding derived from moose hunting applications and kill tags will direct more resources to manage Michigan's moose population. Wildlife management through science-based, wise use principles will eventually lead to a larger, healthy population of game similar to conservation successes in Michigan with wild turkey, bear, and elk.
• Lie #3: Wildlife watchers contribute more to Michigan's economy than sportsmen by a 4:1 ratio; therefore, Michigan's economy will suffer if a limited harvest season is created.
o FACT: Sportsmen and women pay for conservation of our state's wildlife. According to the 2006 National Survey of Fishing, Hunting and Wildlife-Associated Recreation, hunting/fishing expenditures in Michigan by residents and non-residents are roughly $3.5 billion annually ($2,071 per person average), which provides an additional $5.9 billion economic ripple effect on the state's economy. Wildlife watching expenditures are about $1.1 billion annually ($332 per person average). Additionally, hunting/fishing and wildlife watching are not mutually exclusive activities. 23 percent of wildlife watchers in Michigan also fish or hunt and 49 percent of sportspersons enjoy wildlife watching. Further, as evidenced by science-based game management successes, a Michigan moose season will likely improve the management of moose, benefiting both wildlife watchers and hunters.
As you may already know, HSUS is not a fan of the truth. It lied openly and often during the dove bill fight and it's absolutely lying now about the moose and wolf issues.

The worst part? They partly get away with it because their animal rights agenda is hidden with a name like "Humane Society of the United States." HSUS is NOT the same as your local county humane society animal shelters, which actually do great work in taking care of abused and neglected animals. HSUS is an anti-hunting, anti-food agriculture organization based in Washington, D.C. In fact, out of HSUS's $100 million annual budget, less than one half of one percent went to local animal shelters, according to their 2008 tax return. So you can guess where the other 99.5% goes - to pay for deceiving advertisements and paid lobbyists to take away your rights to hunt, fish and trap.

There is great potential for Michigan's growing moose herd under science-based management that has been so successful for other great game species in our state. Senate Bill 1013 will allow state resource managers to provide sustainable hunting opportunities that will further benefit Michigan's economy and improve upon our state's rich outdoor heritage.
TAKE ACTION

rmcmillan - you're "right on!"

You've got it! you're on the ball!
I was told that the Baton Rouge office of Lamar Advertising was probably the one that sold the HSUS & THLN ads on the billboards in Austin, Texas. Lamar is HUGE - offices across the country.
Lamar National Sales Dept. Corporate Office in Baton Rouge
800-235-2627
The Executive ssistant is Kelly Poche
kpoche@lamar.com
If we could snag an animal lover at that company maybe we could get them to help us - especially if we send them the "DODO" so they can see what's going on. I plan to email the "DODO" to Kelly.
I'm going to check Monday with a company in San Antonio. The drawback is that I don't have free long distance & only the CORPORATE office has an 800#. I'm telling all of these companies that our project is for a NON PROFIT organization when I start asking for prices in the hope someone will give us a break & a good deal.

Join up.

Our local paper had this in today.

NEW PROGRAM BACKS HUNTERS

The US Sportsmens Alliance has unveiled a dynamic new initiative aimed at building an army of sportsmen from coast to coast to protect Americas outdoor heritage for future generations. The USSA's Sentry Program is free to join and represents the most intense effort ever focussed on attracting sportsmen to become active players in the fight to preserve hunting, fishing and trapping rights whenever they are threatened.
By becoming a Sentry, sportsmen will be notified by instant e-mail about local and national threats to their outdoor rights. They will also be given specific instructions on which public officials to contact. This communication network will enable sportsmen to moblize quicker and more effectivley than ever.
In addition to getting sportsmen engaged in advocacy, the Sentry Program offers additional benefits, giving sportsman a one-stop web site for key information including state hunting regulations, location of shooting ranges and other hunting and fishing tips from recognized leaders in the outdoor community.
"There are many anti-hunting organizations seeking to do away with what we love, " said Bud Pigeon, USSSA president and ceo. " By coming together under the Sentry Program, sportsmen will enhance our ranks and collectively stand tall against those groups."
There is no cost to join the Sentry Program.

Visit USSA's web site at www.ussportsmen.org/BeASentry
or e-mail info@ussportsmen.org

Everyone should join this now so check it out and tell all your friends.

USSPORTSMEN SENTRY

GREAT IDEA!
I just received the following from Texas RPOA! Ironic that the billboard company I'll be contacting has an office in San Antonio.
TX-RPOA E-News
> From RPOA Texas Outreach and
Responsible Pet Owners Alliance
"Animal welfare, not animal 'rights'
and, yes, there is a difference."
Permission granted to crosspost.

Action Alert!
March 28, 2010

More information can be found on our websites regarding this new San Antonio ordinance proposal and the existing regulations passed in December 2007:

www.rpoatexasoutreach.org and
www.responsiblepetowners.org

Texas Humane Legislation Network's Joel Hailey, John Bachman (Voice for Animals) and other animal "rights" groups have joined hands with Gary Hendel, ACS director, in this renewed attempt to end all use, breeding and
ownership of animals in San Antonio. The extremists told city council the 2007 ordinance wasn't strict enough when it passed but was a good "first step!" Now they're back for the 2nd Step. Dogs have a short life span and must be replaced. San Antonio already has the most anti-pet ordinance in the state which will eventually have a negative effect on tourism.

ACS is hosting public meetings (see our website) which are a total waste of time as the mayor and city council are the people we must contact. We know ACS wants it passed! A final draft of this proposal will be prepared April 19, go to ACS Advisory Board April 21; Quality of Life Committee Meeting May 11 and City Council vote on May 13.

This is SOP with this type legislation. Ram it through before pet owners know what's really in it. San Antonio is the top tourist attraction in Texas and has the most anti-pet ordinance in the state. We'll keep you informed but for now to kick off our "Just say No" Campaign, please e-mail these city officials below and express your OPPOSITION to these proposals.

mayorjuliancastro@sanantonio.gov; citymanager@sanantonio.gov;
PDiGiovanni@sanantonio.gov; tc.broadnax@sanantonio.gov;
gary.hendel@sanantonio.gov; district1@sanantonio.gov;
district2@sanantonio.gov; district3@sanantonio.gov;
district4@sanantonio.gov; district5@sanantonio.gov;
district6@sanantonio.gov; district7@sanantonio.gov;
district8@sanantonio.gov; district9@sanantonio.gov;
district10@sanantonio.gov

These onerous proposals below are now on the table which RPOA OPPOSES:

* ALL animals must be spayed/neutered in San Antonio city limits except "police dogs, military dogs and competition dogs (Show Dogs)."

* ALL tethered dogs must be sterilized. No tethering above 95 F and below 35 F.

* ALL puppies and kittens must be sterilized including pet shops. Puppies in violation of mandatory spay/neuter will be confiscated. Illegal to sell/give away intact cats and dogs.

* Competition Dog Permit replaces existing "Intact Dog Permit" which is a failure.

* Competition Dogs must have Breeder's Permit to be bred, must show proof of a litter and be charged for each puppy. If not shown and bred, must be sterilized.

* Breeder Permit replaces existing Litter Permit which is a failure. Number of litters allowed to be determined. Litter Information not provided means automatic sterilization.

* Rescue Groups Permit: Hendel stated that the city must ensure that rescuers don't become "hoarders." Yearly inspections of permit holders. Standards to be determined.

* Dangerous Dog Control: Hearing Process (change is needed here!) and establishment of Potential Dangerous Dog Protocol.

* Fowl/Livestock: No roosters, only non-fertile eggs allowed. Minimum standards TBD.

See our websites for more information

Billboard cost update

I just talked to a young man named Drake at a billboard agency in San Antonio. He CAN place billboards across the country if we reach that point in available funds.
He's a Pitbull owner & had no idea that HSUS does not operate any shelters & admitted he's donated to HSUS in the past but certainly wouldn't do so in the future since having our conversation. I referred him to www.activistcash.com and www.humanewatch.org. He likes the "DODO" and offered some suggestions so the general public will understand the message better. He has a design staff & would not charge us for "tweeking" the DODO poster. He gave me planning figures for a billboard for 4 weeks on a major traffic area in the Austin area of $2,500 - $3,000. He will also bargain with billboard owners for the best rates to support our cause. Said he might be able to find owners with pets so we'd get a better price. Billboards are 14 ft X 48 ft in size. He would offer us several locations along with the prices of those locations when we believe we have funds for this.
HOW CAN WE COLLECT FUNDS? I'll ask Texas RPOA if they would like to be in charge of this as I know they use PayPal for donations & possibly can set up a seperate fund.
What do you think?

Great work! I'm in. Just need to find someone to collect funds. Be great if we could get someone like RPOA to do that. Anyone else have a orginazation in mind? Ill be glad to pass out flyers or anything else at any event I go to and collect and send in. Whatever I can do to help!with all the pet owners/breeders/hunter we should have no problem in getting a bilboard up. Even if everyone donates $5 that's just 800 people. There are thousands of us out there! Put up or shut up!

Non Profit Organization to collect funds

I'm in the process of lining up a non profit organization to collect billboard funds. Already have several local Vets and organizations who pledged money - will post info on where to send donations as soon as I get arrangements finalized. Hopefully by the end of this week. Will keep y'all informed on progress.
