Last night I made a short round to Gumswamp. I cut Janey out on a ditch that ran through the Pines. She struck at about 50 yards in, and started moving him fast. She located when she was 200 yards in, so I headed to her, in a hurry because she has been loose on the tree lately. About half way to her, I had to cross that same ditch. When my foot hit the opposite bank, it slipped out from under me, and down I went. My knee cap landed on a root, and all I could do was roll around on the ground. Oh it hurt so bad, made me sick to my stomach. Through the pain, I could hear her really treeing hard, so I had to suck it up and keep going. She had a coon treed in one of the bigger Pines in this section of woods., and to my surprise, didn’t take long to find him. I shot this one out to her, then made our way back to the 4-wheeler . Next I turned Blueduck out, off the Steel Bridge road. He struck a hot track at about 75 yards, and started moving it really good. He made a big loop through the hardwoods and headed back toward the cutover across the road where I cut him. I turned the coon right at the roads edged and back he when towards where Blueduck struck him. 700 yards further the treed in a huge Short Leaf Pine, next to the powerline. Don’t know how but I was able to find him in the tip top. He never did looked.

Tommy the male pup I got out of Case has put it all togather not to bad for a 3 1/2 months old. I use no feeders or turn lose coons just lots of time in the timber. He is still a big boy I will have a lot of fun with him. I will keep you posted on him.

After giving the turkey hunter the first month of season without any dogs in the woods, it was time to make a round. To say my me and dogs were rusty would an understatement. I cut Blueduck off Gumswamp road just before dark. He struck at 500 yards and was moving deeper. When he got to 750, I drove around to get closer. When I stopped the 4wheeler, he was treed at 200 yards. I got off the 4 wheel to head to the tree and reached to turn on my light, but there was no light on my head. I had forgotten my light at home. It was too dark to make it to the tree, so I called Blueduck back in and headed home.

Yea I definitely feel it Mr. Jack. Thanks Mr. Ed for the kind words, I got my eye on a young male that’s off of your Ann 11 females and Bryan Tate old Duce dog that’s doing a lot of winning. If Janey makes a coon dog, I thing I may cross her on him (Kink).

Please keep Donald Bergeron (Shadinc) in your prayers for a speedy recovery. He suffered a mild stroke Saturday morning and is hospitalized. He has no paralysis at this time, but also has no strength on his left side. I talked to him last night and he is expecting the doctor to release him this evening.

I went to the hospital to see Donald last night, and found him in good spirits. Most of the strength in his left leg has returned, but he told me his left arm was worse than the day before. The doctors say he should make a full recovery. They told him that this was a just a warning, and he needed to correct his diet, meds and overall health. At 73, he looks like a picture of health, not over weight, and will walk any younger man in the ground following them hounds. (Get well soon my friend, we got a lot of puppy work to do.) I will be out of pocket for the next week, so this may be my last up date.

I just got back from Missouri turkey hunting, and didn’t do any good I might add. Beautiful country, but it was just covered with people.

Update on Donald, He is in rehab at the Baton Rouge NeuroMedical Center. I rode up to see him yesterday evening, and you would know, his nurse is a Bergeron, and has a Black & Tan Coon Hound she got from the pound. We talked dogs, and hunting, and before you know it, it was 9:00 PM. I had to work today so I headed home. He is making improvements every day, and still in good spirits. He is walking around his room, when the nurses aint around to catch him, and has gained more use of his left hand every day. He told me the food is very bad without salt, and they are trying to starve him. I brought him a bag of Gummy Bears lol he’s a junk food junky, and dove right in to them. He is wanting out of there, bad!!! He told me as soon as he gets out he wants go to the woods and fill his feeders to keep the sows close by to raise their kittens.

Can anyone tell me if the videos I posted work or not?

Thanks for the Update, sounds like he's doing good. Wishing him the best. The video you put on youtube of Maggie says it's private and to sign in to verify your age. So, no, I didn't get to see it. Talk about people everywhere hunting, it's only going to get worse. Harder and harder to find land to hunt anything that your not running into someone else or to close to highways or houses. The good Ole Days of the 70's and 80's are Gone 4-ever.

Donald and I made a trip to Gumswamp last night. This was his first trip to the woods since being released from the Hospital. His wife wasn't to happy about it, but I think he enjoyed hearing Blueduck tree. Below is a short video of Blueduck on the tree. He had went 700-800 yards with out a bark, so we drove around to get closer. When we stopped the ranger at the steel bridge, he was treed close to 3oo yards up Wall Bayou. Not sure which side he was on, I drove around to about 150 yards of him, and walked on in to find him on the other side. As you can tell by the marks on the tree, he had been treed a while by the time I drove back around and made my way to him.

I made a short round to Gumswamp last night. It wasn't dark yet, so I was just taking my time easing down CC35 to my first turnout, when I came across this Big Ole Copperhead. This is as big as you will find anywhere. While I was messing with this snake, a truck pulled up, and we started talking. He asked if I was coon hunting. This guy had two Big Coons in the back of his truck and asked if I would like to turn one out on my dogs. OH YES I WOULD!!! So we headed on down CC35 to the bottom and cut him loose. I pulled Janey out, and sent her in. She hit the track screaming, and in no time had him treed in a huge oak. She did a good job. Next I sent Blueduck through the pines to a small oak flat. He went on in and through the oaks without a bark. I picked him up about 3/4 mile away on the other side of the pines. Never got a bark!

Donald and I made a trip to Gumswamp Thursday night. I had put some feed out the weekend before to start these pups that will soon be 5 months old. Donald wanted to take 1 year old female, Casey (Case X Clara). She hadn't been hunted since before Donald got sick (4-5 weeks). We cut her loose one one of the feeders, but nothing had been there. I sent Blueduck on in behind her. Blueduck got struck at about 150 yards, and started moving a bad track into the pines. After he go in the pines, the track started heating up. Casey went to him but never opened. They were moving it pretty good with Casey out in front most of the time. The track had broken down, then Casey located. A few seconds lated Blueduck covered her. When I got to the tree, they were treed up a little Tala tree. Man I got mad, to think Blueduck would back this puppy on a slick tree. Oh but wait, there at the very top sat a big ole coon. Blueduck just got whooped by a 1 year old puppy.
