Hunt

I could tell my little coondog was in heat last night. Hunted with my nephew and he took our Rickett dog outa Raggs. Josh Cole took our young male outa Big Time Albert, and Drake had Blitz. I took BB so we had 4 dogs. I hate that to start with but anyway we turned first turnout and Rickett struck first followed by BB and Blitz.They did a good job of pushing coon across bottom and BB loaded up followed by Rickett and Blitz. 400 yds later we got to tree and they were on a big pine tree with a nest. Couldn't get him to look. Turned off that tree and dogs got deep. Train , our young dog off Albert struck and went to running track. Soon all dogs were with him. Drove around and got closer and heard something coming thru woods. Dang Armadillo!! BB and Train had on Tritronics so they got LIT UP on 6!!! They skipped town. Ole Rickett came hopping out in road ( HE IS 3 LEGGED ) and received his reward from me in form of a dog leash!! Blitz had quit during all this action and slinked back in to truck. BB finally half heartedly treed in bottom and we got her and called it quits. Going to RQE Saturday night, hope dogs act better!! BB had been on the straight and narrow but couldn't turn down that dillar. the Train pup was sure making it sound good!!!

Had a guy make me a logo for my kennel. The dog is my old GrNtChGrCh Pr Southern Blue Moonshine. He is the measuring stick I use to evaluate every dog. He was a great hound. Wish I had him back!!! Darren

RQE

Hunted BB in RQE at Good Springs last night. We had a terrible hunt. I did get to meet Tommy Higgins from Georgia and he is a super nice guy that is very knowledgable about blue dogs. Tommy had a nice dual grand female. I drew Tommy , a walker gyp, and a English male. First turnout I had first strike and all dogs got struck in and ran a track. BB located and I put her on paper. She barked a few times and hushed, 2 caught me and walker gyp treed in same place. Soon English male backed her and Tommy's gyp came easing by us saying something wasn't right. We got in to where they were treed and BB came in to us with tail drooping and got minus on track. They were in ground and the walker and English tied up fighting and got scratched. This turnout sure sucked. Tommy and myself were left to finish hunt. I had 225- and Tommy had 100-. We turned out again and Bb got struck followed by Molly. I treed Bb and tommy treed Molly. Got in and Molly had moved and drew minus. We couldn't see tree and circled tree. Turn off tree and BB gets struck on something wrong but quits it pretty quick. Molly goes back to tree followed by BB. We tree them and go get them off same tree. Last turnout dogs got deep and Molly struck first followed by BB. Dogs split up and Molly does a great job on coon just before hunt runs out. BB is trailing deep and I catch her up. Guy that was guiding us said they ain't treed a coon in two months. Great , and they guiding us on RQE hunt. Lol. Get them next time. Darren.

hunt

Went hunting last night for a few drops. Turned BLitz and Dolly loose first and they got about 450 yds and struck. We drove around and Blitz was treeing but sounded funny. Got closer and could tell he was in ground. Could hear Dolly every once in a while. Got closer and they treed in log jam. Bumped both with collar and got them back in truck. Moved on around bottom and turned BB loose with my male pup Stroker out of Terry Tibbs Razor dog. BB didnt hunt out to well but with some persuasion she went on down bottom. Soon she came back in and never struck. She has not hunted as well as I have been working on her with collar for dillars. Turned Blitz and Dolly back in with my pup. They left out and pup went with them. Dolly struck in at 500 yds and Blitz joined her. They soon treed and we headed in to them. As we got closer we could tell they were split treed. Both held their tree and were about 40 yds apart. Dolly was up a big tree but was treeing on a vine and Blitz was up a tree about 18 inches in diameter that was leaning out over a slew run. I soon spotted eyes high up in Dollys tree but something wasnt right. The spotlight lit up the big smile that was sitting up there!! POSSUM!! We go to Blitz and start checking his tree and soon find the meat, only it was a little greasy!! POSSUM Dang man split and both had a greasy POSSUM!! We will try again, sure didnt look like I had a coondog last night!! Keep'em Lookin UP!! Darren

Gone go turn em loose awhile tonight. Hope it is better than Monday night. Be glad when Cotton goes out of heat. she is being missed right now as she is the most consistent dog I have. She was treeing coons every where I put her feet down over the past few weeks. Makes it fun to hunt. Didnt matter what kind of track she struck she was gettin them treed. Maybe Ole BB can get her mind right over the next couple weeks. That shocking collar has got her a little shook up right now!! Keep'em Lookin Up! Darren

Well I sure am missing Cotton. Be glad when she goes out of heat. Went for a couple drops last night and I reckon I got me some bonafide possum dogs!! BB and Dolly got deep first drop and got treed. Got in there and both met me off tree and acted funny. Possum !! Got after them both. Turned them loose again and struck track, ran it up in hills right up the creek and it went in creek bank. Caught them up. Turned BLitz loose with my pup and they left out and hunted good just couldn't get anything going. Finally came in and called it a night. Coons didnt seem to be stirring. Gone turn em loose again tonite!! Keep'em Lookin Up!!

Hunt

Made a couple drops last night. Turned BB loose with a young dog owned by me and josh cole. We call him train. He is about a year old. BB struck and started working a track. She trailed deep in bottom and got hooked up and treed right. We finally made it to the tree and it was a wooly, rough tree and we really couldn't look it well. We finally have up and went around to catch up train as he was trailing in hills. Turned Dolly and Blitz loose. They hunted out good but never struck and we called it a night. Going to UKC hunt tonite. Darren.

Hunt

Ended up hunting Dolly last night at ukc hunt in Glenn Allen. Intended to hunt BB but they needed a guide and judge for registered cast. We made 3 trees but just couldn't find our coons. Hate these dang leaves and undergrowth. Got to deal with it for awhile. Darren

Memorial Day

Hope every one has a great Memorial Day weekend. I want to say thanks to all Veterans for the sacrifice they have made that allows us to enjoy the things we take for granted everyday, such as turning a coondog loose!!! Have a great one!!

Thanks Scott. BB and Dolly can get the job done, but Cotton has that little extra that we look for in a complete hound. She has really made hunting fun. I have invested alot of alone time in her but it is paying off. Get gone and get struck and she can tree any kind of track she strikes. She still sometimes bogs down a little on some old bad tracks but she has learned to shut up and skip out. She will not bawl around in one spot for 15 minutes!! Really looking forward to getting her back in hunts and shows. She has a first and has a Best of Show as well as Best of breed at the Alabama State Hunt. Gone put pressure back on her soon as she goes out. Ole Logan has thrown some nice ones. There was a guy at the RQE hunt in Good Springs that had a littermate sister to Cotton and says she is nice. He got her qualified for the world at the hunt. Good luck with your hounds as well. Darren

HUNT

Went for a little while last night. First turnout we cut Blitz and my Stroker pup loose. Blitz didn't hunt out as well as usual but eased on out and got struck. It was not much of a track as he just bumped around and fell treed. He did a pretty poor tree job but we got to him and he was treed on a bay tree. We didn't see the coon but it could have been there. Second drop we turned BB and Dolly loose in bottom. BB went right and Dolly went left. BB opened a couple times around an old slough run but couldn't get anything going. She ended up 985 yds down bottom. We drove around and caught her up. Dolly was 650 yds the other direction and never got struck. We drove around and she came out to the truck. It was 10:45 so we just called it a night. Coons not stirring well around here. Gone give it another try tonight and see what we can get done. Been hearing folks talk about seeing coons at 9 am and 6 or 7 pm. I guess summer is officially upon us. I dread it!!! Hunted last nite for a couple drops. First turnout cut Blitz, Dolly, and BB loose. BB struck something that didn't have rings on its tail and bumped it for about 100 yds and quit. All dogs skipped out and got struck on coon. Dogs were opening every once in awhile as it was a BAD track. All dogs looked up but didn't settle and started back bumping around. Blitz finally decided to tree, but didn't make a believer outa me. Dolly and BB got close to the highway and we caught them up. We walked in to Blitz about 300 yds and he was treed in a bunch of hedges with blackberry bushes growed up all in them. No coon seen but we did see a coon alittle ways from where he was treed. I think he just missed him. We cant even get after a track the past few nights. Coons stirring early or later not too sure. Gone try again tonight. This time of the year will separate the real coonhunters from the pretenders. Them internet coonhunters are increasing by the day as the weather gets HOT!!! LOL Keep'em Lookin Up!! Darren

No doubt

Gone stay after em Jason. Hunted last night and ole BB , Dolly and Train would have made any fox hunter proud. Started to just get a lawn chair and build a fire. Round and round we go til the ole Tritronics intervened. BB sulled up on me and Dolly came a running for relieve. Finally walked 500 yds in to get BB. She better be glad she can tree a coon in style or we would really be having trouble getting along. That's ok , it's a battle of the wills right now and I'm pretty dang gritty and bullheaded. HUNT

Man this was a rough week of hunting. I haven't had a week this bad in a long time. Saturday night was about the same. Turned BB, Dolly and a couple of pups loose. BB and Dolly struck and moved a track good for a little while. I drove around to get closer and they had just quit. BB came out to me and Dolly followed suit. Gathered them up and turned loose again. Seen an armadillo and turned BB and Dolly loose right on top of him. Dolly never opened but ole BB soon opened on track. I finally let up on the tritronics when she crawled under the truck. Walked them on down the bottom and recut. BB went over 1000yds down bottom and never struck, and Dolly went 875yds the other way and never struck. Finally rounded them all up except my male pup and he is still in bottom somewhere. Went yesterday trying to get him but nowhere to be found. Maybe he will show up soon. Sure hope this week is better. I will be able to hunt Cotton by about Weds., so I am looking forward to that. Gone have to change hunting places for awhile. Cant even get struck lately. Pup

Well bad news. My buddy just called me and said he found my male pup ran over. Last week sure has turned into a challenging one for me. Had high hopes for this pup. He was out of Terry Tibbs Razor male that I raised out of Hornet and my Dual Grand Frosty female. He had same momma as Cotton. Well I guess coondog heaven is where he can run now.

thanks guys. He isn't the first one and wont be the last but it is frustrating when it happens.

Jason the gyp looks like she is starting to belly up some. She was bred on May 5th so it is a little early to tell yet. I have been pouring the feed to her as well as RED CELL and Calf Milk Replacer on her feed. She may just be getting fat!! I hope she has pups and I will keep everyone updated. Thanks Darren

Appreciate it man. Hope you get your pups in the right hands. I know they will make nice ones.

Tommy I enjoyed the conversation and the blue dog talk. No doubt I think the best dog should win. Good luck at the regionals with Molly. Im bout to get wound back up on Cotton and see if I can get her qualified.

Hunted last night for a little while. Had a better night. Turned BB, Dolly, and a pup loose. Pup is a double Rambo II bred gyp. Drake is hunting her now. First drop was more of the same crap. Stay gone and get nothing done. BB and Dolly finally struck a bad track. They bumped around for awhile and got close to a road so I caught them up. Went over to a different spot and turned out again. Dolly struck and BB soon followed. They ran the fire out of a coon and soon locked down treed. We waded beaver pond and finally got to the dogs. They were on a big den and had the coon. The pup got up on the tree and got excited but didn't know what she was doing. Needs more time and experience. She is 6mths old and we just started taking her hunting. She is going to go hunting for sure. Called it a night. Gone stay after them for sure. Keep'em Lookin Up!! Darren

Gone get ole Cotton back out tonight. Been a long 3 weeks. Hope she aint too bad rusty and can tune her back in pretty quick. Ready to hit the hunts with her and see what I can get done. She has a 1st in UKC as well as a Best of show. Keep'em Lookin Up!! Darren
