LETTER TO EDITORS
Dear Editor,
Animal ownership of any type is under attack nationwide by animal rights (AR) organizations such as the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and People for the Ehical treatment of Animals (PETA). And HSUS has dozens of additional affiliated groups working toward the mutual situation of zero pet or livestock ownership. (see www.activistcash.com).
HSUS President Wayne Pacelle has stated a goal of removing all meat, fish, poultry and dairy from American menus. These radical goals are being pursued through the use of lobbyists supporting restrictive legislation and laws for all who keep and raise animals.
Everytime a donation is made to these groups through their television ads and magazine submissions, the right to have our pets and to raise farm animals is being erroded.
According to The Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF), only one out of every 200 dollars donated to HSUS goes to a pet shelter. Visit the web site www.HumaneWatch.org.
The HSUS ads are full of images of “abused” dogs and cats needing help. But HSUS spends millions on executive pensions, a huge legal staff and PETA-style propaganda publicity.
HSUS is not your local animal shelter and gives less than one-half of one percent of its $100 million budget to hands-on pet shelters. HSUS operates no shelters. HSUS has kept over $2.5 million of Americans' donations in its own pension plan.
Pacelle has indicated that all funds raised for the Hurricane Katrina crisis were spent helping Katrina families and pets, yet this is questionable, based on HSUS press realeases and financials.
Is HSUS compliant with its 501 (C)-3 tax-exampt status? “An organization will be regarded as attempting to influence legislation if it contacts or urges the public to contact members or employees of a legislative body for the purpose of proposing, supporting or opposing legislation, or if the organization advocates the adoption or rejection of legislation.”
Every state has been subjected to HSUS sponsored legislation regarding pet and livestock ownership and breeding. With an income of over $152 million annually, is the IRS being cheated out of a substantial amount of revenue? HSUS claimed credit for involvement with 140 state legislative bills in 2008 and many additional bills in 2009. HSUS publicly urges legislators on a wide assortment of bills.
HSUS President Pacelle has stated “One gneration and out,” in connection with the raising of purebred animals and has said he has no problem with the extinction of all domestic animals.
If you hope to enjoy a future of companionship with your pets and all of the activities they bring to our lives, along with the ability to keep and raise farm animals, an awareness of the radical AR goals must be addressed immediately and aggressively.
