Took Blueduck one last time to stretch his legs before the Winter Classic. I sent him through a pine thicket to a hard wood bottom. He struck a cold track when he was 250 yards in, and started working it. After about 400 yards, he got him running. The coon hit a cutover and made a big loop then headed back toward me. At 300 yards it turned back and headed north, back through the cut over on out into the swamp. He was now close at 700 yards and getting deeper, so I rode around to get closer. The wind had picked up and I could just hear him when I stopped the Ranger. Sounded like he was locating, so I started heading to him. After reaching the swamp, I could tell, he wasn’t treed and heading back toward me. So I turned my light out and just stood there in water, listing to him. Out to my left I heard something big running through the water, a deer or hog was my guess. I got that sick feeling in my stomach and figured I’d make the best of it, and have a good talk with Blueduck. But before I could start making my way to where I heard the sound, I heard something else in the water about 75 yards to my right, only this sounded small, making very little sound. In fact I wasn’t sure if I really heard something or not. Blueduck was coming fast, and when he was 150 yards in front of me, he veered to my right and passed me headed back to the cutover. He turned east and went down along side of the cutover and locked up treed at 350 yards. I found him treed 175 yards in the middle of the cutover on a Pin Oak that went up into a big hollow Magnolia. I never did see the coon, but I could see the wet marks where the coon had went up and around a limb.
