Dumb as a box of rocks

I feel dumb as a box of rocks but can't figure out what I've done. My dog distance on my alpha is showing in ft instead of yards now. How do I correct this? Also around a quarter of the way down my screen I have white strait lines running crossways on the screen that never go away. I have no clue how they got there. Took it off charge to go hunting one night and there they were. Any ideas what these are? What caused them and most important how do I get rid of them. Thanks

Not sure about the lines running across the screen. They could be a couple things. I would just do a master reset and start over.

Thanks Bruce. Took care of it but lines are still there after master reset. I'll just have to live with them . Have they came out with a new alpha or just the new collar?

screen menu locking up

map taking me every where's, seems like the touch screen is messed up. I try and navigate thru it then bam, locks up and won't do nothing. It's brand new and just updated it to 3.8. I don't have birdseye down loaded on it!! I try to scroll the map page with my finger and the next thing you know,I'm over seas and have no clue how I got there! Can you do a master reset on this thing or not! Need to go hunting and can't!!

Danny try a master reset

I will remove your dogs and stored waypoints but won't mess with map.

With the ALPHA off
place finger on top left of the screen and turn it on while turning it on.

If you did it right it will ask if you really want to erase all information.

Hit erase and let it reboot

I found the master reset back a ways in this thread.

Last nite this thing went bonkers. Just kept locking up the screen even when I was just trying to navigate thru the menu. Map was moving without touching it,could make the pointer go away by touching the x at the top right of screen. Also noticed when I got back to the kennel, the blue arrow that marks the position of the hand held had me 1075 miles away acording to the top readout! I did a master reset and things seem to be ok at this time. When I tried to calibrate the screen last nite, dang dot was jumping around on the screen so fast, made me dizzy and that was without drinking any coors lites!! LOL! It seemed fine till I updated it yesterday. I borrowed a young hound I use to own and want to hunt in the all blue oil field $5000 hunt next month. Don't know if I can trust this thing right now to hunt her.

220 Issue

Buddy has a 220 that will not show on
When turning on power button screen flashes then dark
First thought that 220 had been fried by 2-way radio, but unit has not been near any
Unit has not been used all summer & was working fine when last used

If your saying the screen is just black and it just sits there that is usually the map card has come loose. Take the card out and start it up. If it comes on then reinstall the card and see what happens.

After sitting a while and there are problems there could also be corrosion around the battery contacts on the top side.

Danny that answer would be NO. Now if he buys a subscription he can plug in to your computer and upload to his card the area you already have downloaded.

I talked to Mr. Robinson and he has one of those problems that is hard to take care of. He is trying a couple things and I asked him to share any positive results so we could all learn from them.

Mr. Robinson just called and asked that I share this information.

He was having a problem with his ALPHA locking up and turning off after he installed Birdseye.

Here is what Garmin recommends.

1. Do not use a high speed SD card. The recommend a class 6 or class 10 Sandisk. I would say if you get another brand just get a slower speed card.

2. They also verified with him 32 GB is the largest card you can use. Someone gave him information that a 64 would work in an ALPHA. I personally go with 8GB and have more than one card.

Mr. Robinson said he did some testing and it worked ok. We will do some more downloading and let us know.

Had several calls and questions yesterday on PAIRING a T 5 with both the ALPHA and ASTRO.

Would like to share that they are paired differently on each handheld.

To pair to the ALPHA the T5 has to be in the PAIRING mode which is indicated by a fast or flutter flash on the collar light.
You put the collar in the PAIRING mode by turning it on and holding the of/off button for about 3 seconds. It then comes on with a fast or flutter flash and ready to be paired with the ALPHA.

To pair to the ASTRO 320 you just push and quick release the on/off button on the T5 and that turns it on with the slow steady single flash. It is then ready to be paired with the Astro 320.

I have never seen it broke down to a specific frequency for a specific channel.

Basically it has always been stated as 150-155 range.

Help me understand something. What value would knowing a specific channel be.

I can put one next to my vhf radio and find out real quick if need be or a frequency counter.

some years back there was a chart here somewheres that broke down the ID # for the dc 30's and astro 220 system and the frequency can be tracked with a beep beep box like the icoms, its a slow five second blip(5 second update rate) but its there. just a precautionary /backup thing that is nice to know if it were to ever be needed. i did have to track a dog one night way back when when i got my system and had an issue, it can be done.
i too can scan it on my icom too, just thought somebody might know the breakdown
