Well, as no surprise Jack and Jim got deep last night. We went and had to trade vehicles, from the gator to the truck, and went over to gather the up.

They ended up going a pretty good way again and we drove around to get in front of them. They ended up getting treed on a MASSIVE tree. I mean it was a doozy. We never could see the entire tree or the coon, so we had to circle that one and head for the house as we both had to work this morning.

All in all it was a good night.

My goodness she looks good. That is one seriously photogenic female Larry. I look forward to getting these two in a hunt together someday. We'll have to lay it on them like we have been doing back this direction. =)

Hillbilly Jenny's been hunting

Kent, Jenny has been hunted 12 out of the last 17 nights. sunday is our travel day from west Tn. to the plateau. and then a night or so when i need a rest. she is comeing on 17mo and it is time to kick it into another gear. we are mixing it up all along. some nights she hunts alone other nights with pups of varying degrees of ability and some with another hound. so far she has been dealing with the routine very well. i will hold to this type of mixture untill i change for a couple of finishing months of all alone. see you in west tn, tonight bud. just trying to put a little pressure on you and Jon. LOL. LWS.

Jack's ready for the pressure. =)

I've laid off Jack this last week a bit as he was favoring his front right foot. I took him to the Vet on Monday and she didn't seem very concerned, she sent me home with some anti-inflammatory meds. So I've been laying it on him and letting him get some down time in the yard. I was hopping to hunt hard this week too...but it just wasn't in the cards.

I'll see you later on Larry.

Kent

A good hunt with Kent

I went down to Kent's tonight with Jim and Roxy, a bitch I'm huntin for a feller. We cut loose in a field along the edge of a woods and they both cut straight in the timber. Wasn't long at all and both Jim and Roxy struck in about the same time, and hammered a hot track straight to a big oak tree. Roxy is a pretty decent hound that can sure get it done quick and she was choppin every breath. Jim was wantin to come on the back track a little, but brought it right back to the tree. He isn't a straight up and down tree dog yet, but with more time and more experience we are gonna get him there. He knows how to hammer a track and real good at it, jus lackin a little on finishin out that track.

Jim on the left and Roxy on the right

Werkin on gettin Jim to stand up and down

He was hot as a fire cracker but still had a little bark left in him.

I wanna thank Kent for another good night of huntin, and all the help with Jim, It is greatly appreciated. Like always it was alot of fun tonight and cant wait till we get together again.

And THANK YOU Larry for the opportunity to own Jim he has been a pleasure to hunt and gives me the motivation to pull my chaps on for another night.

An Update from last weekend

I decided not to go to St. Jude's this year as Jack is still recovering on that foot.

Instead I went down and hunted with Larry and Jenny. We had a decent hunt on Friday night that ended in a den tree.

Saturday was a full one, we tried to call some turkeys with no luck...finished a chicken coop...and ended up going to the Jackson hunt.

Jack and Jenny both won in the show portion and Jack did a good job in the hunt. We didn't get a win, but he impressed the folks he drew out with.

All in all it was a good time. And as always I have to thank Larry and Dora for their hospitality and the good time.

Jon those are some good pictures. I had a blast listening to those two smoke that track. That Roxy female sure enough is a nice tree dog.

It's been fun watching Jim come on, and to think he's only 9 months old.....holy crap. At this rate he's ahead of Jack. I think you'll be just fine moving on brother.

Until the next drop.

Kent

Barry and Jon and your pups

Barry, i really like that bucket deal. all scent and sound without them seeing it during the workout. Genius! LOL. Jon, dont get on Jim to hard for trying to be dang sure he's right before he locks up on it. at 10mo old he is just putting things together. this kill season when your looking at coons you might learn to like the fact that he has enough presence of mind to do a little checking before commiting. confidence and experince with a dash of fur in his mouth should be all that Jim will require. i know i was right where you are 6 short mo ago. with Jenny. LWS.

Jim

I wanna thank Mr. Larry Stringer for allowing me the opportunity to have a piece of Jabo.
Jim turned 9 months old last wednesday. He has been hunted farely hard and is showing improvement with each night out. Now with that bein said:
I took Jim out last night by himself. We cut loose behind some chicken houses along a creek. It didn't take it him long and he was struck in. Now I stayed within about 30yds of him the whole time, and saw him do something that completely baffled me. The track was bad and the wind was blowin hard, I should have never cut him loose in the first place. As he worked it out he came to little swampy area where the water was about ankle deep. And Jim at 9 months old sounded like he was gonna suck the swamp dry with his nose. His nose was right on top of the water the whole and he was even able to get a couple barks off the water. I am amazed because this is the first time he has ever been hunted in this type of environment.
He worked the track hard, but just wasn't to get it lined out. It was a very cold track, but he done a stand up job workin across the top of the water.
I don't know how Larry found Jabo but I am very greatfull that he did. Because I can't image what Jim is gonna be like after this coming roast near season and kill season.

Thank you Larry Stringer for Jim and Thanks to Kent Wiley for setting this up for me. It is greatly appreciated

Thanks guys.

I couldn't be prouder of that 17month old pup. He's done me proud and won those titles in spite of me handling him. lol

He's done with the hunts for a bit, it's time to bear down on the singling out and getting plenty of hunt time in.

Jack's next two appearances will be at the RQE on 25 May and American Redbone Days in June. I would say mid July / August will be when I really put him on the war path to Nite Champion and Grand Nite Champion.

We'll see you guys in the timber!

Kent

Jim

Had a good showin on the creek last night. Some of the worst conditions you could ever ask for, but didn't bother him a bit.
I cut him loose in a heavy fog last night then not 5min. later the sky opened up and was rainin so bad you couldn't barely see, so I sat under a tree for most of the hunt. He struck in quick, and werked the first track around and back and forth and I never moved from my somewhat dry spot and he never came back to me. With each lil bit of the hunt he would wonder a lil farther until finially he made a few track barks and then a long long bawl locate with 4 or 5 chops to follow. I headed his way still piss pourin down and he was in the thickest mess of the whole woods. It was honey suckle, and briars and awful to walk in. He werked the track around a lil more and then decided to locate big again and both feet up high with the same few chops to follow. I got up there and got him petted up real good and talked to him the whole time I was shinin, with no lead on Jim and he held his tree, even when I was sqaulin. And the best part of the whole night was 2 eyes lookin down at me. all at jus 10months.
Tonight I'm gonna Jo-Ann and Roxy and see where she is at comin off her 1st heat cycle.

I wanna thank Larry for that talk we had the other night, it really opened my eyes and made me look at Jim in a different way.

10mo old and being hunted alone, treed with the meat in rough conditions. Jon, i dont belive he'll ever turn out to amount to anything. you might as well give up on him now and quit wasteing your time. LOL. just kidding Jon, sounds like you got yourself a nice young hound to fool with. hope he continues to get better all the time. LWS.

LOL I wish you could have seen him tryin to figure out how to get through that mess then lookin back at me and tryin it again. I listened to what you said the other night on the phone about not rushin him, and well need less to say I reckon you have done this one or twice in your life, cause the reward I received was worth the time spent waitin.
I believe if don't nothin happen and I don't mess him up he will make a pretty fair little hound.

He will now be singled out for most of his huntin time. I think he might have passed up the stage as a me too dog at ole say 10 months old. lol. born June 25 2011.

Thank you for the opportunity and words of wisdom on this Jabo train. I'm jus sure thankfull that I was able to hold on for the ride.

Had a good hunt last night with Jon Christmas.

We cut Jack loose in one of Jon's new hunting spots and boy was it nice. Jack went huntin off the bat and did a thorough job of it.

It wasn't long at all and he struck in on a hot track and smoked it to the tree. He came on the wood real good and stayed where he should....with the meat. He did a bang up job.

The second drop the only thing that got him was my having to be a work in a couple of hours. Jack was in the process of warming up a cold cold track, but I had to call him in because I still had nearly an hour drive back o the house, and I had to be at work at 0500.

All in all it was a great hunt.

Had a good hunt last night.

I went out to the hog farm and cut Jack loose. He started by kind of circling back towards some houses so i had to call him back. He came like he knew what he was doing. lol

Then he went down through there and ended up going down a trail that lead to the field. Which is no problem as I've treed coons off of that trail, but when he got to the field he turned back towards the road instead of back where I wanted him.

After I called him in I sent him back off again. This time he flat flew in the direction that I wanted him to. It wasn't any time at all and he struck in on a coon and burned that track to the tree. I let him stay treed for probably 10 minutes until I got to him just for practice.

Old Jack had the meat at the very tipy top of the tree. I had to get probably 50 or 60 yards off of this tree to get a point to see the top. When I hit the squaller that coon looked straight at me. I'll post some pictures later on tonight after work.

Jack is coming along real well and will continue to be singled out hard until the RQE on the 26th down in Springfield, TN.
