No, Diamond Jim was not "basically" a Vaughn dog.

Just because he has some Vaughn blood in him, or goes back to some vaughn dogs, doesnt make him Vaughn bred.

Im not taking anything away from Diamond Jim, but I thought this was a vaughn thread, not smokey river.

There are tons of dogs that go back on Vaughn dogs, as a matter of fact a big percentage of blueticks do, so are you gonna call everything out there "Vaughn" bred??

I myself am a little of a vaughn fancier, and have enjoyed this thread, but I believe I`ll have to part ways here, cause I wont refer to Diamond Jim as a Vaughn bred dog, just because he had some vaughn blood. Buzz Anderson is more responsible for him than anybody.

I have been breeding my own stock of hounds for over thirty years, and they have evolved from Vaughn bred hounds, that I bought straight from elbert vaughn, but do I call them Vaughn bred, hell no, I bred them.

And to the guy that named his female "Vaughns" so and so, that is wrong and you know it, that female is no closer to actual Vaughn dogs than anybody elses, quit using the mans name to sell puppies to people who dont know any better.

Im glad you are one of those rocket scientists that can evaluate intellegence over the internet.

I am not.

But I am just smart enough to know that Diamond Jim is not what anybody that I know of calls a vaughn bred dog.

And if you would like to argue that, type away and show your ignorance.

Your post was as out of place as your crude kennel name.

I dont believe I asked you anything abut your dogs, but, If you have smokey river dogs they are just that, smokey river dogs.

And by the way, Smokey River crosses well on about a bunch of lines of hounds. It aint just Vaughn

Good then don't come back on it every time you post it is to argue and if you don't like my kennel name don't read it. Yes I can tell the intellegence of or lack of from some one on here especially when they ruin threads as you do.If your so proud of what you raise and breed use your real name mine is right there in my signature and here is my number feel free to call any time 864-353-8739. I have a pretty good Idea who you are already. No one stated that smokey river didn't cross good on all they just made the statement they crosss good back on Vaughn blood and Mr. Ken Adkins has as much Vaughn stacked up as anyone along with the Bragg blood and I would say elbert Vaughn and Kelly Bragg would both be proud how he has carried it on for all these years.

Fellows this had been a good thread and several people have joined in and have enjoyed it. BUT some people will not leave good enough alone.... I don't claim to know everything but I have read a pedigree or two along the way...

That is some pretty heavy Vaughn blood! Well mule barn, I understand what you are saying about most blue dogs do trace back to Vaughn, but after seeing this 4th generation I would have to say Vaughn bred. One thing about Smokey River Kennel and Mr. Warren. Smokey River Kennels was not a particular strain of bluetick. Warren would buy a good coondog and stud him out if he would work no matter what the breeding and Warren used many a Vaughn bred dog over the years. By the way, I heard that Diamond Jim was one heck of a coondog.

My dad has always said the same thing. I guess you could say they were Smokey River "hounds" rather than what you would call a "bloodline" that carries several generations of a particular strain. Nevertheless, Warren supplied the country with many fantastic hounds for decades. No one can argue that.

Billy II & Shady Lady

Ken, have you ever crossed Billy II on Shady Lady? I want a pup if you ever do make that cross. I can't find that kind of breeding anywhere else. I love the looks of those hounds. They both look like they've got a little age on them, I would just like to see a cross like that made, before it's too late.

Its a shame that Charles Lindsay's health didnt allow him to really develope the hounds that he got from Vaughn Kennells. Many say that Charles got the better of the bunch by just a little bit, but just didnt get to hunt and promote like Jess did. What I think really helped Jess was that he was really committed to using the Perryman brothers with the Arkie blood and the result from those breedings produced a little more compitition style hound such as Drive, speed, little more independence starts to pop up in that same era too. I know Jess liked a lot of "hunt" in a dog and didnt want to see him again untill he had a coon treed. I have heard many a people say that Rogers Little Mack was well on his way to winning the world hunt when he got an eye pulled out during a cast and had to withdraw him. Dad really liked Jess's Little Mack and dad really liked Arkie Dooley. He said Dooley was a "COONDOG". Dooley was a littermate to Perryman's Blue John. They were out of Tahsuda's Arkie and had my dads old Edisto River Blue Sail dog on back a gen or 2. Sail was out of Earl HIlls Arkansas Blue whom my dad said was a "COONDOG" second to none!. WE bought a 8 month old extremely shy pup from Jess that someone had brought back for several reasons. WE named him "Tarbaby" and is one of my all time favorite hounds. He ran thru the hunts winning easily and I was handling him in a Nt Ch cast against Luther Sharp who had jus purchased I very nice hi-dollar english. I was nervous as rooster at a coyote picnic. Well I one the cast and the hunt it was very close. I got the cast win against Luther and it was by about 25 or 50 points. Then Luther tried to buy Tarbaby for something $5000. I remember telling daddy he should NOT sell Tarbaby! I put my foot down!LOL Those were some good memories! I'll follow this strain of dogs till I die! I might add something new here or there but it will always be my base. I have rattled on long enough!

Texhog and arkiedog

texhog,
Thanks for your bit of histroy and coments...Join in here anytime...

arkiedog,
We crossed Billy II on Shady Lady last fall. She had some problems and we only raised one male pup. We may make the cross again sometime. We will probably wait to see how this pup does.

How old is Billy II and Lady? Can't wait to see what that cross produces. I had a Lindsay bred female I got from Jess not long before he passed away. She was extremely fast on track and had a super long bawl.
