Last Saturday, Bayou Coonhunters Assoc had it BBCHA Sectional. We had a good turn out, even with LSU was playing Alabama. I hunted Merle, and Rhett hunted Blueduck for me. Rhett won Best of Show with Blueduck to finish him to Champion, And placed second in the hunt, which won him King of Hunt. John Adam won first place with Dixie, which also was Queen of Hunt.

I have been a little under the weather the last two weeks, and haven't been hunting like I should. Claude and I sold Merle Tuesday night, and I'm not too sure how I feel about it. I think I'm going to miss Merle. Clara came in heat Tuesday also, and I will be leaving Wednesday morning to take her to her date with Uchtman's Blue Jobe. Ole Jobe will soon be 12, so we are excited to have an opportunity to get a litter from him. Clara is daughter of Uchtman's Clear Fork Blue Thorn, so this should be a good line breed cross. Donald's female was bread to Case and should be having her pups in 9-10 days. Donald and I took Blueduck, Janey, and Casey Saturday night. We made three tree and didn't see a coon. One slick, one den, and one he could have been there. But Donald's pup Casey did an outstanding job, treeing first on the third tree. WOW what a locate she has, and spent most of the night by her self.

After two long days of driving, and one cold nights stay in North Arkansas (11 deg), Clara is breed to Uchtman's Blue Jobe. Breed her yesterday morning. Got my fingers crossed, hoping she takes.

PUPS

Great cross and good luck with them Tommy. Donald is going to have some nice ones to off his female and Case. Yaw will have your hands full again this time next year but it sure is fun watching those young ones develop. Hope your feeling better and back to hunting regular, Take Care.

Thanks Steve, We got our fingers crossed in hope that she takes.
My last two hunts have been really enjoyable. Im not sure if the coons are rutting or not, but I have been having some good running coons.Last night, Blueduck struck a hot track at about 350 yards. He ran it about 100 yards back toward me, and I was thinking, this is going to be an easy one. After the first 100 yards, he lined him out, and the race was on. He pushed it across the road on in to a pine thicket, then into a cut over. Beings Im off and didn't have to get up the next morning, I figured I'd let him keep going. After he had went 1/4 mile in a straight line, I started to think he might be running something other than a coon. The race kept on for another 1/4, and then he treed. At this point he was 350 yards across a cut over in a tree line between another cutover. I drove around to the tree line and had a 500 yard walk to him, but at lest it wash,t through the briars. I found him on a Pin Oak that was about 20" across with a big hollow in it. Blueduck did a good job and I don't know how long it took to get to the tree,

I haven't been on here much lately, but have been having some really good hunts. Donald and I have been taking Janey and Casey at lest every other night. Singleing them out on feeders. I really got a good laugh about 4 nights ago. We brought Casey, Donald's pup to a feeder, that looked like the coon had just left. Casey smelled around a little than got up on side of a little tree. She wouldn't bark but she wouldn't leave either. I looked up and had 2 eyes looking back at me. I told Donald, well she got him. He said your joking right, nope I see him there. Well Donald starts petting her up good and she blows the top out. When I look up again I see white and a slick tail. Oupppsss. lol Donald wasn't too mad .

Casey, (Case X Clara) Donald's pup treed another one alone. She sure is looking good. A couple nights before, she split away from the other dogs, but we were unable to find the coon. This pup has a beautiful locate and is loud.

Last night I turned my pup, Janey out on the feeder at the beaver pond. She hit the ground screaming. She moved the track down the bottom about 100 yards before breaking down when the track crossed some water. I sent Case to her, and they left flying through there. The track turned west and crossed the Steel Bridge road, then headed to Wall Bayou. They crossed the bayou and made a big loop to the north then headed back to Wall Bayou heading south. They were burning him up. 350 yards to the south west, Case treed, but it just didn't sound right. Janey will be on every tree, but she wasn't treeing. She was barking, but not tree barking. This puzzled me. When I stopped the Ranger after driving around, I could hear the coon squalling. I found them in the middle of Wall Bayou fighting with coon. The fight was almost over by that time, so I caught them up and headed home.

We had another good hunt last night. Rhett had his pup Deets and Case. Deets got snake bit when he was somewhere around 5 months old. This was the second the Deets has been to the woods since then. We turned him out on the feeder on CC35. He went in 20-30 yards then doubled back and crossed the road. He wasn't opening and having trouble the track away from the road, so we sent Case to him. Case started working this cold track on south down the bottom. He was drifting the track opening about every 50 yards or so. After 200 yards he had that coon running. Deets was putting with him sounding really good. We drove around to the onion road just in time to hear them passing the end of a food plot. Just as they got to the end, Case then 3 beautiful crystal clear locate bawls and rolled it over to a chop. Deets went about 75 yards further and located on another tree. By the time we reached the wood line, Deets had come back to Case and started treeing with him. Didn't take long to find this one in the top of this huge Pin Oak. Rhett knocked him out and Deets was all over him. Next we turned Blueduck and Janey out. They had hit a cold track and worked it about 300 yards before Blueduck located and Janey covered him. But Blueduck packed his bags and moved on trailing with still treeing. By the time we made our way to her, Blueduck treed 500 yards deeper. We couldn't find either coon, but I was really pleased with Janey staying put.

Janey treed her first coon alone list night.

We had another really good hunt last night. Donald's pup, Casey treed another coon last night. This one ,she hit a hot track and ran him down Wall Bayou and then had to swim across to continue the track. Not far after she crossed, she treed on a huge Tupelo Gum. This tree had 3 big holes, and we didn't see the coon, but I'm sure he was there. I'll post videos later. Janey treed her first coon alone list night. We turned her out on the feeder at the beaver pond. She hit a hot track and ran it a short distance and treed on a big Red Oak. About 40 foot up the tree forked, and there he set. The first coon a pup trees alone is always so exciting to me. I just love it. Before those two coon, we turned Blueduck and Janey out off the Steel Bridge road. They hit a hot track and the race was on. They pushed him out of the hard woods into a pine thicket, and was heading to the end of a nub road. 100 yards off the end of the nub road, in the pine thicket they treed. When we made it to the tree I saw that it was a big Hickory that I had treed on 3 other times and have never seen the coon, there was nowhere you can get to see the tree. But the leaves are off now, and at the very top, there he set.

Tommy, that's not too bad for 9 months old pups. I hear there's a couple more from that litter doing it also.

Night before last, Blueduck ran the fire out out one. He struck the track next to a flooded creek. trailed it for about 10 mins, then got it running. The coon left the deep water and hit a pine thicket. He made two big loops through the pine then headed back to the hard wood timber. After 45 mins of flat out running he treed on a huge pin oak. I pet up ole Blueduck and left the coon to run again.

Night before last, I turned Janey out on a feeder that looked hot. But she couldn't do anything with it, so I sent Blueduck to her. He started opening after he was in about 150 yards, trailing another 150 then got him running. They hit the cutover along CC35 and sounded like they were going to catch him. I saw the coon cross the road headed in to the Bobcat country, which is some bad stuff, so I caught them. Went on down the road and sent Janey in on a creek that crosses CC35. She would go out 50 yards or so then return. She did this a couple times and I kept getting madder each time, so I put back in the box, and cut Blueduck. He struck a hot train 250 yards in and was headed to the Daniel's field road. I headed around and turned the coon as it got to the roads edge. Blueduck was close behind. The track broke down were I turn the coon back, but he made a little loop out in the edge of the cutover then hit the same creek that he came in on. He ran the creek 100 yards or some then headed out to the left another 500 yards and locked up treed. Blueduck had to work for this one, but did it in style.
Hard to see, but there he sits.

Blueduck

Tommy sounds like Blueduck is doing some good work. I love to hear about Blue dogs getting the job done.

Took Blueduck to Forest Hill, La. to their UKC hunt. Drew out with Sleepy, AJ,(both near home) and a guy from over near Forest Hill. Sleepy won our cast with Rebelet. Blueduck did a good job, but I just couldn't find his coon.

I was suppose to go back Firday night, but changed my mine at the last min and just went to Gum Swamp. The first drop Blueduck struck a cold track but never could get it going, after about a hour, he treed in a pine thicket, but that tree was slick. Second drop, I sent Blueduck and Janey off the end of a dead end road, where they had ran one around and around, red hot last week. Blueduck struck about 100 yards in, and the race was on. This had to be the same coon as the week before, because he was trying to make the same road crossing as he did last week. I turned him and he headed back to the swamp. At one point they sounded treed, so I started walking in to them, then they shut up. They did this a few times, so I went on it to them. They had caught him in Wall Bayou, in the deep water. The coon got away as I was trying to catch them, and Blueduck treed him in a huge cypress 75 yards up the bayou. Next I turned Janey out on a feeder but she couldn't do anything with the track, so I sent Blueduck in to her. He hit the track headed south and treed at 259 yards. Found the coon pretty fast then headed out.

Took Blueduck and Janey to Gum Swamp last night for a short hunt. I dropped Janey out on the feeder at the end of the O.B. Cowlot road. The feeder was hot and she took off down the creek. She opened after she was 50 yards down the creek and turned north, covering ground fast. She made a turn and was headed north along side of the road. After 150 yards, she turned east and went another 150 yards, and gave two long locates then locked up treed. I made my way to her and found the coon pretty fast. I had my rifle and was going to let her have this one. The first shot was a good one, but he fall into a small fork and lodged.
Next I took Blueduck around and sent him into a pine thicket that’s between the road and the open hard woods. Lately I have been trying to make it a little harder on him, make him have to work to find a coon. He worked his way through the pines to the edge of the hard woods, then worked down the edge. He struck a cold track at 350 yards and started working it. At one point he had trailed back into the pines and located a couple times then moved on through the pines back into the hard woods.. After about 45 mins of trailing, he treed. I drove around and made my way to him. He treed in a good sized Live Oak, but I couldn’t find the coon. I really feel he missed this one.

Janey treed.

Blueduck at the end of a bad track

Lodged coon and no puppies

Mr. Tommy sounds like your luck runs about like mine sometime. Don't you just hate to shoot a coon out especially to a young dog that has done a good job on it and have it lodge like that. Sure sorry about your Clara female not having pups. I know you were looking forward to them and you went through a lot to get her bred. Take care and good hunting.

Took Blueduck and Janey to Gumswamp last night. I had intended on turning them out on two feeders on the edge of the swamp to make a fast hunt. But the road was flooded, so I had to change plans, and headed back to higher land. I cut them both loose on a creek that runs between two cutover. They struck one right at the roads edge and treed within sight of the 4wheeler. I found him quick, so decided to make another turnout. This was the same creek, but down stream about 400 yards. Blueduck struck a hot track 150 yards down the creek, and the race was on. They left the creek and headed west through the pine thicket. they went a ways the turned back crossing the same creek on into some really bad stuff. I could see they were headed to a dead end road, so I headed them off and caught them before this short hunt turned into a long hunt. I hate pulling a dog off a track like that, so I might go back and try to get on him again tonight.

Congratulations Mr. Tommy and Blueduck

Congratulations on the win and qualifying for the world hunt with Blueduck. I hope you and Jeremy get up there and make some noise with those two good blue hounds. I would have liked to have come and hunted at Meadville. I have hunted over there for many years and they have some good guys in the Meadville club, but I have trouble pulling those hills anymore. Take care.
