Bill

Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad you like the thread. I've always enjoyed writing and this gives me a chance to do some. I'm having a ball with these youngsters. They ask a lot of questions, but that's lets you know that they are interested in whats going on. They catch on quick. It don't take them long to know the difference in each dogs bark, and the difference in a trail bark and a tree bark. You never know what they might do next, but what ever it is will be interesting. I know you know all of this because you got a couple of boys there that I have been reading about for a while. Take care Bill. Good huntin.

Tramp & Rain

Took Tramp out for a short run last night. Was going to take him out alone, but decided to Take my Rain pup out with us. She is sired by Dennis Elbraders Rebel Dog and her mother is Kenny Hulse's Sally female. I'll put her full pedigree on later. She has treed a couple of coons here in the pen, but I just started working her some. Jeremy has a litter mate sister that he has been hunting and he says she is coming on good. This was Rains second trip to the woods. The first trip she would go with the dogs a ways and turn and come back, but last night Tramp hit a pretty good track about 100 yrds and she opened a couple times on track Tramp moved the track out of there in a hurry. I didn't hear her anymore, but she stayed with him. They moved the track on in about 500 yrds and Tramp Treed. I rode the 4-wheeler in as close as possible and walked on in to the tree. He was treed up a pretty good sized oak. I shined for a while and could not find him. I turned my light off and looked for a minute and I could see him plain as day by the moonlight sitting right in the top. If Rain had treed any on him I would have knocked him out to her, but she didn't so I'll save him till she does and then let her have him. which I don't think will be very long off. I petted them up some and we called it a night.

Tramp & Rain

Took Tramp &Rain out for another run last night. Gin is in season so this will give me a chance to put a little hunting on Rain. I went to a swamp a few miles down river. I turned the two of them off an old road into a small slough that runs through the swamp. They went in about 700 yrds and Tramp struck a cold track and moved it in another 300 yrds and treed. I never heard Rain open, but she was at the tree with Tramp when I got there. They was treed up a large white oak that still had a lot of leaves on it. I shined for a while, but if he was there he never looked. I leashed Tramp and told Rain to come on and we went back to where the 4-wheeler was and moved on down the swamp about a mile and got into a part of the swamp that I had never hunted. I turned Them in on that same slough I think that runs through the swamp on its way to the river.
The coons were just not moving I guess for I was watching them on the Garmin and they followed that slough for over a mile and got in there next to the river. I knew where there was an old road that went in to the river so I went to it. When I got there I looked at the Garmin and it said they were over a 1000 yrds in, I went back up the swamp and found another road I took it as far as I could go and when I stopped Tramp was Treed. The Garmin said 550 yrds, so I got my rifle and headed out. When I got to the tree Tramp was still treeing hard and Rain was just sitting there beside him. They were treed up another large white oak and I don't believe it had lost any of its leaves. I shined for a while and I thought I had got a glimpse of an eye when I first started shinning, but if I did he never looked again and there wasn't a vine or anything to shake. I shined for a while for I wanted to knock this one out to the dogs, but it didn't happen. I was coming down with a bad cold, so I was feeling pretty rough by the time we got back to the 4-wheeler, so we called it a night.

Hunting

Jack,

Looks like Gin and Creek are on the same schedule both being in heat. I think Gins Mamma looks like she is getting close to coming in also.
Its interesting reading these posts about how many yards dogs get in and what direction by what we can see on the Garmin. With how big some of these dogs hunt now days I don't know how they would survive sometimes if we could not get them picked up or get around to where they are. 30 years ago I could not have imagined being able to keep tabs on a dog like we can today with the tracking systems. Always good to read your posts,

Scott

Congratulations Tramp and Jack

Congrats to Tramp II for being second in the performance point standings with 3.9 points. I am proud to say Creek is tied for 6th with 3.1 points. We may have to get those two together someday down the road.

Take Care,
Scott

Thank you for letting me know about Tramp 11 and Creek being #2 and #6 in the performance points standings. It would have probably looked better on both of them, but I know that you withdrew Creek from competition after the Fall Roundup and I withdrew Tramp from competition after his win at the Mississippi State hunt, because one reason he was still having some of that throat problem and another I am going to hunt him at the UKC Winter Classic and I didn't want to take the chance of finishing him and have to hunt him as a Nite Ch. up there. I had rather hunt him in the Reg. division up there, but after that's over I'll be working on him again. Again congratulations on all you and Creek have done. I sure like that little female and if you ever decide you want to breed her to Tramp 11. Just let me know and we'll make it happen. I sure would like to have me a pup out of those two. Take care Scott and thanks again.

Sheba

Took Sheba out Monday night for a short run. She struck an old cold track in about 300 yrds and worked it in another 300 yrds. just barking here and there. She treed about 200 yrds in fr0m where I was sitting on an old woods road. I made my way in to her and she was treed in a small tree that went into a larger tree. I shined for a while, but it was thick around there and I never could get to where I could see the tree good. If he was there I never could get him to look. I leashed Sheba and made my way back to the 4-wheeler and we called it a night. It sure has done got dry here in this part of the country. All of the old sloughs have dried up. I think the coons must be moving during the daytime, about 95% of the tracks that we are striking are cold tracks. These dogs take the tracks as they come to them and most of them are real cold. 12-8-14

PLEASURE HUNTING WITH GOOD FRIENDS

MR. Jack I had a great time hunting with you and Chis and his son last night. Here is a picture of your hounds TRAMP 11 and DOLL with their reward for a job well done. I was very impressed with both hounds and especially Tramp as he really shined last night. Beautiful woods we were in along the Pearl River. We will have to plan to take a boat one evening and set a few bank lines for catfish and build us a big fire on that sandbar and coon hunt and fish all night. Looking forward to our next adventure. See you soon!

GROWTH ON PAW

Here is a picture of that coon Tramp treed last night and the odd growth on his right paw. I have never saw one with a growth before and I looked at his paw and it was normal. No signs it had ever been injured.

Sheba & Doll V

Chris and I traveled over to Brookhaven, Ms. tonight. Chris said that they didn't get in to any coons so he didn't do any good with Doll. We did manage to find a couple of coons and I won the Nite Champion part of the hunt with Sheba. 12-13-14

Win

Congratulations on the Win Jack! Sounds like she is back at it good after coming off of the pups.
The weather is good for hunting here but the hunting is tough. I have been hunting Slim alone since Creek has been in heat. He has been working hard at it but the last couple of nights we have not had much luck. Good hunting and good luck with your hounds.

Scott

SHEBA

Congrats on your win MR. Jack. I had planned on making the hunt but got tied up burning leaves and the river bank off and still had to many hot spots left late in the evening to feel comfortable leaving as dry as it is. I will give you a shout this week. Take Care and Good Hunting!

Tramp & Rain

Thanks, Scott, Steve, Bill and Mr. Heard for the congrats on the win with Sheba.

I took Tramp and Rain out for a run tonight. Turned then up the swamp. Tramp went in about 100 yrds and struck a pretty good track. Rain went with him, but she never opened. tramp moved the track on in another 200 yrds and treed. I moved around on another road to get closer. I got my rifle and started to them. Rain met me about 50 yrds off the tree and followed me back in to the tree. Tramp was treed up a large pine out in the middle of a bunch of hedge bushes. The hedge bushes were about 15' tall and I could not see up the tree. I finally backed off about 50 yrds and I could see part of the tree. I shined for a while, but I never could see anything, so I leashed Tramp and went back to the 4-wheeler and moved on up the swamp. 2nd drop. They went in about 200 yrds and Tramp struck a working track, but before Tramp could get the track warmed up and moving good Rain quit and came in. Tramp really got to pushing the track. I believe if she had stayed with him a little longer she might have opened. Tramp moved the track on in about another 300 yrds and treed. I went around on another road to get closer and he was tree about 50 yrds off the Road. I got my rifle and Rain and walked in to him. I found the coon pretty quick and shot it and it walked down the tree and jumped out, but Tramp was waiting on him and caught hi as soon as he hit the ground. Rain got in there with him and they finished the coon pretty quick. Rain is sure not scared to fight one. She will do her part in the fight. Shes just got to learn how to do all the rest of it. It was beginning to rain so we went back to the 4-wheeler and called it a night.----12-15-14

Tramp, Sheba & Rain

Chris, His son Cole and me went down the river to hunt tonight. We turned the dogs loose going south down the swamp. I had Tramp and Rain on my GPS and Chris had Sheba on his. They went in about 200 yrds and Rain came back and left again in the direction that Tramp and Sheba were in. Tramp and Sheba had gotten in a little over 300 yrds. Rain struck something and started opening. About the same time Tramp struck about 400 yrds in. He moved it in to about 500 yrds and treed. I asked Chris what had happened to Sheba and he said the his GPS showed that she had come back to check what Rain had struck and was on her way back to Tramp and about that time she locked up treed with Tramp. We never did hear anything else out of Rain, but when we got to the tree she was there. We shined the tree for a few minutes and when I hit the squaller several sets of eyes looked at us. I think there were 4 up there. Chris shot one out to the dogs, and after a little bit we leashed the dogs and went back to the 4-wheelers. We moved on down the swamp a ways and turned loose again. This time Rain stayed with the dogs. They went in a little over a 1000 yrds and struck again. They had a working track going and soon started warming it up. Rain was also opening some. They moved it in on the River and were pushing the coon pretty hard. ....they moved the track on down the river another 600 yrds and treed. We were able to ride the 4-wheelers to within 100 yrds of the dogs and walked on in to them. They were treed up one of the largest oaks that I've seen in a long time. It would have been a great place to take some pictures, but as usual when I need it my camera was at the house. We shinned for a few minutes and Chris Shook a big vine that went up into the tree and the coon looked about 3/4 toward the top of the tree out on a big limb. Chris made a good shot on him and out he came. It was a big boar coon. After the dogs finished with him we leashed up the dogs and got the coon and headed back to the 4-wheelers. We had had a good hunt and decided to call it a night.----------12-17-14

Tramp, Doll V and Gin

We turned them into a strip of woods off an old oilwell road . They went in about 100 yrds and Gin started an old cold track. Tramp and Doll opened on it a few times. Gin kept going on it, but Tramp and Doll decided they would find a better track so they left out of there and headed south toward the creek. Tramp and doll got in about 450 yrds and hit another cold track sounded about as bad as the one Gin was on. Gin treed and we road the 4-wheeler within about 50 yrds of her and walked in to her. She was treed up a leaning tree that had fell into somemore trees. We couldn't find anything. I think she missed it. We just could hear Tramp and Doll. Clayton said that they had crossed the creek. We went around and got to within about 150 yrds of them and they were still working that ole cold track. We decided to catch them and go somewhere else and see if we could strike a better track. We moved on up the swamp and turned them loose again. Gin and Tramp struck and treed pretty quick. Doll never opened. We shined the tree, but never could find anything. We leashed the dogs and moved a little farther up the swamp and turned them loose again. They got in about 100 yrds and Gin struck a pretty good track, but nothing else opened. I knew that she was running something that she didn't need to be running. We called Tramp and Doll in, but Gin was covering ground. I thought at first she was probably after a hog, but she got in there about 450 yrds and treed. We would start to her and she would start moving so we decided it was a Bob Cat. She finally treed not far from us and Clayton and Chris walked in to her. When Chris went to leash her she left out of there and came to me. I think she knew that she was messing up. She had been in season and had been laid up for about a month, but the next time I turn her loose I will have a shock collar on her. When Clayton and Chris got back to the 4-wheeler we decided we had had enough fun for one night so we called it a night.-------12-22-14

Flooded Swamps

Yea, Steve everything is flooded over this way too. We sure had a lot of rain in just a short time. The tornado hit in south Columbia over across from Walmart. They said it blowed a lot of the windows out of Walmart and several of the businesses across 98 highway across from Walmart are not there anymore. I don't know how many, but there were several people killed and injured down there. I was down there about that time, but I was on the north side of town. I was headed to Walmart and Tractor Supply, but after I heard about all of this I turned around and came back home. I pray for the people that were down there. Steve thank you for checking on me. Talk to you soon

Storms

Jack,
I hope you are making it through all of the weather you have been having down there. Good to read about your dogs and the hunts you have with them. You have a Merry Christmas and good luck for the coming year.
Scott

Sheba, Doll V and Rain

I don't hunt on sunday nights, but although it was raining last night Clayton and Chris went and had a good hunt. They text me from time to time telling me about their hunt. The dogs struck the first one a good track. They said Rain was opening good on track and when they treed she treed some. She seems to be doing a little better every time we take her out. They said where the dogs treed at was almost impossible to get to. The finally made their way in to the tree. they said to their supprise it was a small tree, but it had two coons sitting in the top of it. They got to shaking vines and one of the coons walked down the tree right in front of Rain. The said she really cut up and her and the coon left out of there with Rain barking every breath. They turned Sheba and Doll loose in there with her and they ran the coon about a thousand yrds and the coon circled and came back to within about 50 yrds of the first tree and treed again. They said they couldn't find him this time, but they knew that he was there. They made one more drop and struck another pretty good track and ran him for about 30 min and got into a lot of water and it was still raining and the dogs lost him. They had done got soaking wet and cold so they decided to catch up the dogs and call it a night. 12-28-14
