my theory is this. Last year we had a very mild winter and coon bred very early. Hence why there are very very few small coon at this point. They all had an extra 2 months to grow. I don't know about you but I treed very few small coon this year. I think coon bred in november early november that is. This is just my opinion.

I think I just might to tree one tonight in this foot of snow we have on the ground. Happy new years to all you guys.

Griffith, we hunt walkers cross on fox hounds, got 2 more coyotes yesterday. we use a older male and female, got one young male out of them thats going pretty good, got a littermate to it that really has not had a chance. and we have one redbone male, i could ask the guys if they want to sell one of them. we only hunt one or two dogs at a time, and they are going to breed the male and female again as soon as she comes in heat.

ive been researching it a lot. i think we are going to add a few more running dogs to the pack and alternate dogs throughout the chase and just let the dogs do the killing. we are having a hard time getting the coyotes killed. lol

we have no problem killing them, we use 12 ga. 3" mag. # 4 buckshot. most shots are 50 yards in. when the snow gets deep most coyotes will circle like rabbits, much larger circles of course, and if you use one trailing hound most will not blow out of a section til they get shot at! we get 50 plus coyotes a year and only hunt when snow is on the ground. we normally drive around blocks of woods and look for tracks going in and none coming out then go after them. most time the coyotes will bed up in swamps so alot of times just head to the swamps! if you got any ?'s feel free to give me a call, 419-544-2374

Way to go Jackson87. Do you still have snow on the ground where you are at?? Where I'm at we still have 2-3 inches on everything except the south hillside.

I hunted in 6 inches of snow one time and i had no idea what i was gettin into.It was froze on top so every step we took we were dropin down thru the ice.Dogs went around 600 yards got treed. It took us like an hour to wade to them.Shot the coon out and it took us an hour to get back to the truck.I went home after that.It was a workout!Looks like the temps will up to 40 next week so everybody can get back to huntin.
