Ranger should be ready to hit the brush in 3 or 4 days, that is when his antibiotics run out. He is eating better and can at least open his mouth now..........Tim

Roy,
Going hunting tonight with Paul and Doug ( alias SPLASH). Would like to hunt around some water but with Doug along that could be a hazard. Will let you know how the hunt goes and who stays dry.........Tim

Hunt

Last night Danny came over and brought his pup (Turk X Pearl). First dump cast Robin and the pup and they struck and treed in under 10 minutes with the meat. Next dump Robin got in deep by her self ran a short track and treed with the meat again. Next dump she went deep deep deep again and ended up comming out on a county road where I caught her and waited for Timmy and Danny to walk through. Got home about 1:00 and back up for work at 6:00.
Had a good night but it is getting really dry. We need a rain bad.

The only reason everybody stayed dry was because we kepted Tim in front of us so we could keep a eye on him at all times. By doing this we all stay dry!!...Doug

Tim, I know what you mean about sweating on these nights. Man it is hot and dry. We have been hunting off of a small river to keep the dogs near water. It gets rough in places but I think it helps the dogs. Robin is getting pretty good on the big water.

Last night Shane White came over for a hunt and brought his 1 year old female, we hunted Lou and Robin. First dump they all three went through a half section with out a bark. Next dump we cut Shanes female on a coon that crossed the road. She went ballistic but couldn't move it any where. We cut Lou and Robin and they both hit hot and poped it up about 150 yrds in. Lou and Robin sound so much alike that it was hard to tell them apart. Next dump was in a corn field where they struck off the chain and ran a hot one in the corn for about 30 minutes hard. Turned them loose again in the same place and they struck one after going over a 1/4 mile and took it to the river. Ended up catching Lou because the young girls left her behind. I took Lou to the truck and drove around the section while Shane and Timmy walked through. Picked them up and they had caught Shanes dog and Robin got extra deep. At one time I showed her in 1.38 miles and she was across the river. Drove around and got within 700 yrds of her,and finally caught her at the tree. Didn't find a coon but Timmy and I put one up a tree when we crossed. Got in at 5:00am and still had to go to work.

Roy,
If you keep hunting Robin by herself she will eventually get deep I don't think 1 mile alone is deep. She will get deeper (like ole Zip). When she does.......don't call me to go hunting!.........Tim

at Girard last night but didn't do any good. Can't say it was our fault or Robins. Hunted in some of the roughest country I have ever seen.. All the dogs had trouble. Hunted with some good guys but man was it hot. Got down to 88 degrees when we turned loose.

The coon over this way have been moving during the afternoon and again around 4:00 am. Hard to tree a coon with young dogs, can't wait untill Ranger can get back in the woods...........Tim

tonight even though it is so dang hot. Hunting near big water trying to keep the dogs hard. Plan on making some short dumps with Smoke, Robin and Lou. Run them one at a time.
Coon seam to be moving right before dark and again at 3:00am or so.

Dennis, I would think that as hot as it is they would layup till it cooled off at night. Just goes to show that I don't think like a coon.

We have only had Smoke out about four or five times in the last month and I am trying to condition him for this hot weather. It is still a pleasure to hunt him, he makes it look so easy. We have cut him in where the young dogs were having trouble and he just blows right past them and puts a coon on the end. The corn field races don't last long when we cut Smoke in.
Can't wait till it cools off a little so we can hunt Lacey with him. I think she is ready for the woods.

Saw that on Turks post, Larry and you guys had a good hunt.
Larry and his son are great guys and I like the way they hunt and what they want in a hound. Turk and Jill ought to be a great cross.

Timmy and I plan on going to Paola, Ks tonight. We will hunt Robin for sure and still deciding on hunting Smoke. It is a federation hunt and we are just trying to keep Smoke up on points.

Paola Hunt

Robin just plain and simple got beat. She looked good and split treed but could ony find coon in one of her trees. A walker female did a good job and we found coon in two of her trees. The other two dogs had the same luck as Robin but we couldn't find coon in any of their trees. The walker female had 225 plus and Robin had 200 plus.
Robin may be out of commission for the next 3 weeks, I think she is comming in. Just starting to swell and the male dogs think she is real cute right now.haha

Slowing down

in this hot weather. Small creeks are drying up and I'm afraid of the dogs getting too hot. Robin is comming in so she is out of the line up for now.
Timmy hunted Smoke with Kenny Sloan and his English dog he calls Blue. Blue placed 12th at the AKC world. Kenny said that Smoke is the best blue dog he has ever hunted with. Smoke treed 3 coon ahead of Blue and had one by himself. Timmy said that after that the two dogs split from each other the rest of the night. Timmy said Blue came out on top with one more coon than Smoke.
Picking up a pup from Gene Minor thursday. We talked about hunting but Gene is like me and has pulled back on hunting till it cools down a little.

and dry. Turned loose two coon last night.
Picking up a Turk X Lucy pup from Gene Minor tonight and then Danny and I are going to the duck lakes for a turn out or two.

by his self. He did a good job and treed coon like he is supposed to. Might hunt the brothers tonight for a drop and then split them up.
The pup from Gene is adjusting to Lacey and being in a pen. She has been running loose and needs some time to get adjusted to everybody.
