Roofus

I think i can remember back when Roofus left Illinois...I always thought about a Lakeland English< I have been a die hard Black & Tan man for some time< so you know it will take a good bred pup to convert me...lol

I know what you mean alot of us English owners used to hunt other breeds.. I learned along time ago breed don't matter its COON DAWG that does...

WV State Championship Hunt

Hunted Roofus last night the whole cast got scratched on the last drop with 30 mins left to hunt... roofus got 1st stike coon went trough a covert 8 mins about got them.. Then a walker female broke the 8 with 2 mins left on the 8. roofus a walker male came back to reline the track.. Meanwhile the Walker female and english male fell treed Roofus goes in 2mins left on tree gets third tree and walker male last tree... Get there to find a big black and white house cat... Whole cast got scratched... We had a fair hunt we looked at 6 coons... We could have won our cast but the house cat beat us all... Win some loose some...

I want to send prayers out to Russell Shamblin for his loss of a great Nt Ch english female that fell out of a tree and got killed... I hear she was making a nice one... Keep your head up another one will come....

We only hunted Sat night.. Friday night 7 ntch casts were scratched for off game... just saying.... Congrads to all winners

I will bet you didn't need a light to walk with. I never saw Roofus ever tree any off game when I had him out here but I never hunted him with a dog that would tree off game. His mother never has treed any off game.

Jr,I was hopeing to see you and Roofus in the winners circle at the WV state hunt. You sure have a good looking pup out of Roofus. I would have got one but I already had a little blue female spoken for out of some of my old dogs. She is a dandy,she will be four months old 8/23 and has all ready treed a squirrel on her own.She didn't see it climb, tracked it down and treed it. I had to drag her off the tree. I have high hopes for her. Take care Kenny

To all of those that haven't heard. I had an incendent last Saturday night... I recieved a major set back. I fell in the woods causig major damage to my left knee.. I have had two emergency surgery's and more still to some.. I was released from the hosiptal late this evening... A stick went in the knee cap came out the side of my leg... I have ingnored all phone calls and PM's and will continue doing so until I feel up to taking them.. So pleased hold them all... Sorry for the inconveince... The up side to this is the knee cap was only dislocated not broken... Estimated time could at least 12 weeks..

You won't be huntin' Roofus with a bum leg, that is for sure. He is tough to follow with everything in good working order. You are in Frances Gail and I's prayers.

I once fell and broke my leg out coon hunting by myself. Thank God for cell phones.

When I had my broke leg, I sat in the truck and drove around to pick my buddies up. Sometimes, the dogs treed close to the road and I could get in on the action. I hope you can work out some kind of similar deal. When I first broke my leg, Frances Gail fed the dogs. They got fat as hogs. LOL. I know it can be difficult getting things done. I hope you have a speedy recovery.

Medical update.... I am healling reamarkably fast so home heath tells me I am scheduled to go back to the doctor on Sept. 7 to decide when to start skin graphs but I am feeling fine...

Junior, there are still times I can't hunt these days. So, when I can't hunt, I work on my videos. I have been doing videos for around 25 years, so I have lots of old stuff I need to convert to digital. You may not have a lot of old stuff but you can probable edit and redo your new stuff. Make a DVD you can give to your pup buyers.

I am some old ones from back in the early 90's on VHS. I also sent out some DVD's of Roofus with his pups when I sold them...

I have a start on converting my VHS stuff to digital but it could take years to edit and convert it all.

It is going to be 100 degrees here today, I may do some editing after fishin' a little. Next week, here in Illinois, it may not reach 80 degrees. I will be back out with my daytime dogs.

I recieved a call from Jeff of Washington D.C. he bought a female pup out of Roofus and Rose and he is very happy with her... She is already treeing house cats... He calls her the fearless dog... Good Luck Jeff and remember put her in the woods and she'll do the rest...

Going back to the Dr. this afternoon... Hoping to get rid of this wound vac I have benn dragging around sine the 21st of Aug... I rode my Harley yesterday for about 50 miles I done alright until I had to change gears... Felt good though... I done it to get it to higher ground they are calling for 4-6 inches of rain over the next couple of days... I didn't want it to get flooded out... It hasn't rained much since I moved it out of here.. MAybe that was just an excuse to ride... Lol...
I have been off of work since Sunday and done have to be until Monday...
I want to hit the wood so bad I can't stand it... But I guess I better wait until I am healed up Lord knows I don't need to fall again anytime soon... I am starting to get Bow fever as well... All I can say is Ol' Smokey the bear better shut the forest down when I am able to return because this Ol' Cabin Fever is getting to me... Take Care to all... JR

P.S. I guess someone deleted my English Video Thread because I can't find it... I just BTT on 9/03/11 and someone replied to it but they didn't post it right and you couldn't view their video... I don't understand why they do this... They are things on here that has been on here for over a year since anyone has replied to it makes no sense to me... Unless I accidently deleted it somehow but I don't think so and if I did I am sorry to everyone who replied to it...

We just got back home from the Dr. and etc. . Everything is looking good they took me off of the wound vac.. And as of now they are saying maybe no more surgeries... However I do still have a 3-1/2 x 7-1/2 open wound on my knee they saying the skin will grow back without doing skin graphs but they will know more when I go back in 2 weeks...

Roofus & Rose pup update

We just got back from camp...

I recieved a call today from Bub... Bub kept a female and she will fight a coon and tree on a drag... He seems to be liking her very well... He let Mike Webster have a female that is treeing on drags and going with the older dogs.. He also let Ronald Kay have a male but hasn't heard anything about him... Thanks for the updates Bub keep in touch... Remember "Put'em in the woods and they will do the rest..." Seems this was a good cross and they all seem to be fearless of everything, JR

We had to build a fire in the Buck Stove last night it was Brrrrr 41 degrees in a 4 bedrom house that is COLD!!! That just means Hunting season is coming.....
May rake leaves today they are falling @ camp...

Junior moved to your post I cooked my camera at Oaks left it in the truck to long lesson learned going to update some video took my camera the other night but I must have pushed the wrong button on my new garmin and didn't think to run the video I'll try to get something so you can see him he is a little different from Roofus but you'll see they are similar in a few ways one being they flatout tree coon . I got finished up with the doctors yesterday I have about 80% use of my knee and have lost 90% of my limp... Doctors are very happy with my healing progress....

I did not get to hunt Suzie last Monday night due to heavy rain.... I am hopping to this upcoming saturday night though... She was bred to my Hank dog but I don't think she took JR

Junior, I am glad you are doing better. It took me a long time to recover when I broke my leg. We are looking forward to some of your great videos.

I sure invest in a lot of camcorders. I am looking at 3 of them as I write this message, I have a couple of more in storage, and, yesterday, I ordered another one. I order a Vivatar digital camcorder from www.HeartlandAmerica.com for $90. It will replace the one I lost in the woods last winter. It compares with the one I lost in the woods which was much higher. And, I saw some of the Kodak pocket camcorders advertised at Big Lots for $40. I may try one of those at that price. I never go hunting without a camcorder in my pocket and I use bigger, better ones for something special. I spend about $100 every time I go to a competition hunt somewhere, so investing in a good camcorder is cheap these days. I remember when a good one cost over $1000.

Here is a video that has Rusty in it. I will post others.

The difference in the 2 dogs was that Roofus hunted much deeper and has a louder mouth, (he needs it when deep). Junior would hunt Rusty but I think Roofus goes too deep for Neal. I sure liked both dogs and I think they are now with the right guys.
