Snake bitten
Rhett and I made a round to Gumswamp Saturday night. We had Blueduck, Merle, Clara, and Deets. Last hunt I filled three feeders to start working with these Case X Clara pups. Deets has more drive than I have ever seen in a puppy. When he hits the ground, he is all business, and don’t care what is happening around him. All he has on his mind is coons, and to see and HEAR him work a track is unbelievable. We turned him out on a feeder at the beaver pond. The tire was covered with mud and water, so we sat back waiting for what was sure to come. After he got lined out on the track, off he went. We were hoping for an easy coon, but that wasn’t the case. At 350, we rode around to get closer, at 550 from there, Rhett decided he may need to follow in behind him. Before Rhett left he send Clara in toward him, but she headed north and treed at 350 yards on Edwards’ Bayou. I headed to Clara and Rhett went to Deets. After I got Clara, and had started back to the Ranger, I heard Rhett hollow for me, so I hollowed back. According to the Garmin, I was 400 yards northwest of Deets, so I turned and headed that way. When Rhett caught up with me, he was packing Deets. Ole Deets had been snake bite and was one sick puppy. From the fang marks, it appears to have been a big one. In one of the pictures below, you can see the fang marks where it had already started to drain.
