batteries

Bruce I did a test, coppertop vs energizer lithium, you are correct. The coppertops are lasting 3x what the lithiums are.

.

Lets talk Garmin Map cards and the best combination for the Astro or ALPHA your using.

I am looking to learn here so I will share what I do and I would love to hear your opinions on the maps you use.

Lets start with the ALPHA.
It is preloaded with 24K TOPO of the whole USA which is GREAT!! Wish the 320 would also come preloaded with the 24K TOPO. I then put Birdseye Satellite on as SC card and have the best of both worlds. Anyone else use any other maps in their ASTRO. I know if my boat didn't have a Garmin in it I would use some of the lake and inland water maps but I don't because I don't need them.

Now the ASTO 320
I have found a combination that seems to work really well for me. I download the Birdseye TOPO on the ASTRO 320 and I put the Birdseye Satellite on a SD card.
I really don't think many people are aware of the BIRDSEYE TOPO as everyone just says BIRDSEYE but there are a couple of those products.
I like the TOPO on the Garmin because it doesn't take much room and it is the entire USA and Canada which is great and just $29.95

One other map I have used is one that shows property owners when you drill down on the astro/ALPHA. Some of the timber men and real-estate people use that to show them who owns certain property. Also shows State Land. Those maps are not available for every state yet and they are about $99.99 each.

One thing I like about TOPO maps over the Birdseye Satellite is that they show road names and Satellite does not.

What is your favorite map combination for your ALPHA/Astro?

I'd love to have a map that showed property owners. It would be nice to know who owns some of this timber I have hunted all my life.

Jim,

It's an app for your smart phone called, "Hunt by onX". Download it. There is a 10 or 14 day free trial (enough to ID property owners of land you hunt), then it's $29.99 I think.

Say you have both dogs tracking normally and you push the map button once. Then one track will leave screen. Push map button again both are gone push again both back. See of this is what happened

I would like to find the answer to this also. I just click on it and go past it everytime I start mine. I have tried several different things and came to the conclusion I would just live with it.

Is it saying: INVALID JDX FILE? If so, that means that one of the downloads did not fully load properly. If there is a way for you to delete a download at a time from the Garmin and then see if the invalid file dissappears. It is a pain, but the alternative is to see that warning everytime you turn on.

Jim ,I don't know about Indiana. Here in Pa you can go to Deed/Tax office for each county and view or purchase plat maps that show the property lines and owners. The boy scouts here even have plat books for sale for individual counties.
I like my maps and I can go to any page to find owners of any parcel.

I just got the alpha with the tt15 collar, I have tried to download birdseye on the alpha but cant find it on my handheld. Do you have to have a sd card to store birdseye on the alpha? I have basecamp downloaded to my cpu and made a map of the area I usually hunt but I cant find it on my alpha. Thanks for any help

You can put the birdseye on your alpha or on a SD card. Apparently you made a slight mistake with downloading it and it was not put on the ALPHA. I personally would put on a SD card but try sending to either your choice of the card or alpha again.

Problem with Birdseye

I have had Astro 320's for several years and have had Birdseye on all of them.

I recently purchased another Astro 320 but when I download Birdseye, nothing shows up. When I hook up the Astro to my computer with the USB cable, I can see the files on the SD card. It doesnt appear that the Astro is recognizing it.

I cannot figure out what is going on.

Help

I have a TT10 that will just stop tracking while I'm out running. The first time it did it, I chalked it up to interference as there were a lot of collars out. Today it did it with just three collars turned on so I know interference isn't the issue.

This usually happens after a few hours of running. It will show the dog moving cursor but the position of the dog doesn't change. The first time it did it, it just randomly picked back up and started tracking again after an hour or so.

I run two Alphas so I know it's not a matter of me accidentally hitting the "stop tracking" button on one of them. It's not losing signal due to distance either, today it did it at 140 yards. The other day when it did it, I could still track all the other dogs in the pack moving out. The dog with the collar that quit working stayed with the pack the whole time but it showed communication with his collar at the place where the signal quit. I have three TT10s and only one of them has had an issue with it so far.

Collars were all updated via Garmin Webupdater just prior to July 8th.

Ever hear of this happening? I'm lost on this one.

For the guys downloading birdseye I am not sure of the problem but have seen it. I actually did one a few Saturdays ago at home and when I was done nothing on the handheld or SD card. I ran it again and the second time it worked. There is like a transfer and load and I think it didn't load as it said it transferred. All I can say is go through the steps and upload again making sure your reading every little thing the screen says.

SRCONNELL if you have some age on it I would check the antenna connection and make sure there is no corrosion. Unfortunally my feelings are it will need to be replaced.
Yes, I have heard of this but never heard the exact cause of it.

Adding TT15 to Astro 320 Problem

How do I change the ID of a TT15 collar to something other than 0-9. I get a message "Problem communicating..." whenever I try to change communication settings and choose an ID outside of that range. Is this a known limitation???

Rob

Let me make sure we are on the same page. When you are attempting this you have the collar turned ON and you have a connection between it and the handheld. In other words it is tracking the dog?

I will change the ID on mine when I get to the store tomorrow and make sure it works as it should. I will let you know if I have any problems.
