PUP

Steve, hope all is well with you and the family. Sometime in the future, when you make a cross on your hounds I would be interested in a female. You know it will get the hair hunted off its eyes and the toenails off its feet. Love the looks of your hounds and would like to see how they would cross back on this heavy Uchtman stuff I have here now. Just keep me in mind when you have some luck with some pups. Thanks,
Darren

Thank YOU Ken for putting them in the woods! A hound will ever only be as good as it's handling.
Kenneth Adkins, I may have to keep posting Abby Lou's pics to keep Kenny G active on here! Lol

Yeah Darren I've already got a pup in mind for you. Lol She'll be out of Jack and Pepper. I've bred heavy Uchtman females in the past with great success. Everything I have goes back to some old Uchtman (Rebel, Angel, Ranger V) in one way or another and there's a reason for it.

Looking at all the hounds of the past, a good many of them were narrow headed and short eared, i wonder where all these big chuckle heads and long ears came in, surely no one bred for it instead of breeding for ability??

This thread was brought to my attention by a good friend.

Steve, I cant apologize for Geralds actions, but I can clear a few things up for myself, you and him.

First and foremost, he doesnt have a pup out of my semen, i have never used any of it yet, but am planning a breeding, and did tell him I would sell him a pup if enough were available, we have been friends for years.

Second, His comments on heads and ears I feel were my fault, when he asked me why I called my old dog Ugly, I told him that in todays world he was, he looked like a bunch of the foundation dogs Elbert Vaughn had, a touch short eared, and a touch narrow headed. I couldve lied to him, but the truth is how I operate.

I think I would know as well as anybody, I just live 5 miles south of Elberts homeplace, Used to go up there all the time with my grandpa before he died, I was 6 then I believe, never the less I have tons of pictures of me with puppies and hounds of all ages and sizes up there and at home, my grandpa and dad hunted with him regularly, my dad worked with him at the shoe factory, he came to our place for many hunts. I KNOW what the dogs were, and how they looked.

Third, I dont study pedigrees anymnore, and havent shopped around, but he could possibly be the tightest bred Tahsudas Arkie dog available to breed to, I do know that he was out of a long line of winners, 3 dogs on three generations that werent grntch`s, one was a ntch, at any rate, he is bred the best with very little Vaughn influence besides what was behind Arkie. His mother and father were both dual grands, and the father won 2nd in the purina race in 96 I believe. I could ramble for days about his ancestry, Im hunting dogs out of it now.

I believe thats all I have to say on this matter, I think my Ole buddy from Ms got misunderstood, but this isnt about him, It is just to clarify to everyone who has called me that there are no puppies out of ugly in circulation at all.

Sorry for the molestation of your thread Steve, I just wanted to clear a few things up.

Pete Eastep

No apology needed!

Good to hear from ya Pete. I try not to take anything too personal on here. At the end of the day, it's all just good reading. I DO appreciate you clearing up that you didn't get pups from your semen and not tell us! Lol

I hear ya Steve, I have a NTCH female worthy, but she is 8 years old, we just tried to breed her to Uglys dad Jake via AI and she didnt stick, Im gonna breed her to the dog Im hunting now and try to get a live litter before I try to breed her to Ugly semen. As of right now I own 2 hounds in AR, parts of 2, and 2 in other states, the place looks empty with all the pens and no young dogs. It aint cause I havent been trying though, ive culled four years worth of young dogs looking for that special one, ive got one now I think is going to make it though, Ill kow for sure when the rice gets big enough to run in........Have a good one Steve, Pete

Had a good hunt the other night. Didn't get to the woods till 10:00. Pepper and Jack struck a cold track. An hour later, they put him up a tree. Struck him cold and had him running hot when they got him treed. That's the kind of races I love to hear.

You have to have a coon dog to do that!!!!! My Dad always said that there was a difference between a coon dog and a dog that would tree a coon!!!!!!!

I agree! These aren't "coondogs" every night, but I've sure enjoyed hunting this pair of hounds this past year. They work well together. (most of the time!)

Nice looking hounds Steve. It takes a good bred dog to tree coon like that. And that sure is a big tree.

This male belongs to Carl Stewart. He is from the first cross of Dually and Lula.

Miss this ol boy!

Perryman's Blue Bawler at Orangburg, SC a few years ago. The pups in the pen behind him for sale, were out of him and Massengale's Blue Lena. The best cross from Bawler.

Steve,
Someone told me the ticks down around Viola were 1/2 the size of terrapin turtles this year! Any truth to that?

Lol! That's what they say Lowell. As you know, we went straight from winter to summer. I haven't been out to gather up any for a few weeks. I got a few days of turkey hunting in and a lot of overtime at work.
Between long work weeks and trying to work in family time, coon hunting has been put on the back burner. We've got storms coming in tonight and cooler temperatures behind that. I'm off this weekend and plan on getting some woods time in. These pot lickers and I both need it lol

Steve

What do you know about this pedigree? I am familiar with the Littlejohn's Arkie stuff but not really familiar with the Boeuf river stuff on bottom. He is a loud , houndy sucker and weighs in at about 95 to 100 pounds. Gone start hunting him and see what I got. He is supposed to tree his own coon. He is a young 3.

Alex I got him from a buddy of mine. Never really been pushed in the woods hard but that's about to change. See what he has to offer.

He's a good looking hound Darren! He looks a lot like his daddy! I hunted a few nights with Jim, one night with Hydro Jack and several nights with Cindy.
As far as his bottom side, I only hunted with Saddleback Jack once one night when I drew him in a hunt.
The Beouf River stuff belongs to Mr. Larry Jones just north of me near West Plains, MO.
Someone on here may know more about Larry's stuff than I do, but I'm prettty sure most of his stuff is going to be from Uchtman and Smokey River up close, but he's done his own breeding for a long time.
A lot of coondogs in that pedigree as far as what I hunted with. The Honeycutt boys crossed on Larry's stuff a lot. This is one of those crosses. Keep us up to date on him!
Good looking hound!
