I actually think it would keep the Pure-Breds more pure.

It will def keep the purebreds more pure. I personally know where an exceptional black and tan bitch is, who is the product of an intentional walker/ black and tan cross. When the boy bought her, her pkc papers reflected that. What suprised us was a set of ukc papers with her. She had the same mother and a black and tan male as her Sire. Sadly a very well known breeder had helped get her registered with a gang of purebreds he had raised. The ukc papers were destroyed, but that just goes to show you how easy it is and it will blow your mind at who does it.

A good breeder of top coonhounds just naturally could breed better hounds if he had all the great reproducers of all the seven existing UKC coonhound breeds to pick from in his breeding program !!

I just do not understand the WHY people feel the need to cross breed?

WHY?

Everyone else is voicing their opinion so why not me. Why ruin what so many have spend their lives on? Why have uglier dogs? i understand that there are some outstanding cross-bred hounds out there, but at the same time you would not go looking to buy a new ford truck off of the lot with a chevy motor in it. kind of defeats the purpose.

What would be ruining someone else's work is cross breeding dog and then falsifying papers. Being open with breeding practices is the only way to be, and having a crossbreed division a would help.

I do see your point. I hunt curs that can flat get it done day or night. I'm not asking to be able to compete with the hounds. All I am saying is that don't limit a person from competing just because he or she choses to hunt crossbred hounds. I prefer walker dogs far as hounds go,but I also like to see good dogs work no matter the breed. I hunted hounds for almost 30 years before I switched to curs and I still handle a hound from time to time. Curs just fit needs far as handle and being able to hunt smaller tracts. And they don't pass up or run past game.

At one time UKC said this would be brought up at AO and I'll bet you read that too. Maybe you didn't see where they later said that they had too much other business that needed to be dealt with at AO and so this would need to wait till the Winter Classic to be discussed. They have not forgotten about it and if the other breed reps say yes we may well have it happen !!! We need to talk to our breed reps and explain to them that putting cross-breds into their own division instead of single registering them as something they're not would be the best thing for everybody. UKC will listen to the wants of the common coonhunter too , so be sure to vote here on this poll.

It's also to help keep the PURE dogs PURE. A walker x bluetick shouldn't automatically be an English dog. Best I ever turned loose was a
walker x bluetick and I wouldn't mind haulin another one around.

yes he should

They came from the English hounds when they started breeding for colors. Hence they should automatically be English

ok

have you ever heard or read about the Birdsong line for those of us who happen to know. we are still able to identify a trait on some hounds of all the colors...........well not going to write a book here lol
my own thinking is they should leave the ancestry's on the papers and drop the pr from the pups that would make it best. I know it makes too much sense huh? that would still qualify them as coon hounds just not purple ribbon bread

I said that about leaving the PR off many posts ago.

Every breed should register dogs that conform to their breed and will tree a coon for an inspector of that breed.
The two best coondogs I have hunted with didn't have papers.

I think that the crossbreed idea is great as long as the mother and father are both registered in one of the breeds, I don't like the idea of single registering any dog into the crossbreed group, the papers would just say crossbreed on them and by each dogs name on the papers would say what breed they were

That would work, but a some people think it would hurt the breeds. I don't agree that it would. The best coonhound I have ever hunted with was a bluetick that was not registered. I hunted her with several Nite Champs and Grand Nite Champs and she outhunted them every time.

This is exactly what we would want. But for some reason, some people think that because it says crossbred, that would mean accepting a half hound and a half other type of dog (lab, cur, beagle....) I would also only want the crossbred to be from 2 UKC registered coonhounds.

172---against x breeds

I still say even if your against this for your kennel you won't be hurt if your buddies have them.
