Nite Hunt Scenario

Curious if we scored this correctly. I believe we did just want to clarify.

Dog A, B, C 3 dog cast

Cut loose Dog A 100 strike 125 tree
Dog B 75 strike 75 Tree
Dog c 50 strike and never treed in

Get to tree after 5 is up
Dog A & dog C are in a dryer up creek bottom treed on a empty coon trap.
Dog B is ten feet away trailing opening.

How we scored it.
Dog A minus 225
Dog B minus 75
Dog C deleted

Dog A & C recast back into dog B
Both struck back in for 25

Whats a MOH or representatives opinion on how this was handled?
I believe it was handled right but just double checking in case it ever happened again.

Tell the guide, Always move the coon trap after you release the coon. A mistake like that can screw the whole plan up.

Dog C should have received some minus tree and points also. The rule reads something like this :

A dog treeing but not declared tree when judge arrives will receive minus tree points on "off game" or slick tree. Points will be determined by next available tree position.

The only mistake I see is that since B is carrying 75 strike, next available is 50, not 25.

I don't think barking at a coon trap on the ground is treeing
C should of been minus strike points if handled

What does the advisor say about a coon trap being a place of refuge?

And that is why dog C would be minused next available tree, because he was treeing but not declared treed when the judge arrived. They both (A & C) showed the track had ended and they was treed.

Jim, can you help me think this thru?

I'd love to know for sure in the event if it ever happens down the road be easy to score.

Cage box trap was empty with some honey buns in it 😂

Dog A ends hunt with 350+ 350- and 375 circle
Dog B ends with 550+ 75- and two circle trees
Dog C ends with 175+ and some circle

Dog B cast winner with 475+

Looks like the right dog won in the end,
The Advisor says caged coon or coon in a live trap can not be scored & the points are deleted. as for there being no coon in the trap and taking minus, it might just be a bad brake that we all get at times when we are comp coon hunting. so you very well could have scored it correctly but for the turning back in strike points that Jim pointed out.

I don't see how this as anything to do with a coon in a trap there was no coon. This is just an object on the ground that may or may not smell like coon the dogs are barking at. Where you can plainly see there's no coon. Don't know how you can minus a dog tree points that was never treed or found treed.

This one is a little complicated. Right up front, I don't think believe 4(j) can be applied here because that rule applies to trees and a live trap is not a tree, it is a place of refuge. To further complicate, it cannot be scored as a place of refuge if it has a coon. If it has a coon, everything is deleted. But in this case, since there is no coon, it is scored as a place of refuge. Minus the dogs declared treed, circle the dog handled at the scene. That's how I see it but I've been wrong before.

It'd be same deal as a 3 foot hollow log that dogs are treeing on and you can plainly see there's nothing inside it. And I still don't see how dog C would have 100- in a few of the others break down of score, I've still got dog C at 50-.

Take the trap out of the picture. They find them barking at a candy bar, do they get a free pass?
