When I lived in Michigan and skinned coon in the woods I preferred the Schrade Old Timer trapper, Model 770T. The knife is light in weight and sharpens up really easily. The downside is that it dulls pretty easily when skinning around the head. Bone will dull a knife quickly. But, I always carried a small sharpener and sharpened the knife after skinning a couple of coon. I like Buck knives. They may hold the edge longer but they are also harder to get that edge on. The Schrade will shave the hairs off your arms with a few strokes on the sharpener. JMO.
