Already regretting what I thought was a good decision

At the beginning of August I decided that I didn't have time to hunt. I had only been back into it for a couple of months, an loved going just my job sucks because of the split shifts I work. I had a good dog that consistently treed coons, a young well bred pup, and all the equipment that I have since sold. Every night that I am home I find myself on here reading about other people hunting and it drives me nuts knowing what I did. I am in the process now of getting a better job made it past everything and have been told I had a job just waiting on an opening with West Rock. I told my wife this morning that this spring I am buying everything again, and her exact words were " I told you you would regret it if you sold everything". Its funny how as bad as I hate to admit it she's normally always right lol. This time I am going to spend more time looking for a young dog that is in competition hunting form unlike the one I had who took forever to get out and find a coon. I still have my light but thats it so I guess I will be dumping thousands into it again lol I should have known better.

Welcome back Christopher. Best of luck on your quest for a good young dog. Maybe try finding a couple coon clubs near you and go walk along on a couple casts and see what's available in your area.

I am going to wait until the spring because i haven't changed jobs yet, and Christmas is coming up. Atleaat that is the plan I just feel stupid for selling everything. I should have known better. I love hunting and my crappy job was what made me do it. I might look into going to a few local hunts as a spectator though. Can you normally just show up and go as a spectator, or do you have to know someone who is competing in it?

Most clubs are pretty friendly, if you show up you will get to go to the woods.

Outside of my job and family hunting is all I have. I get frustrated with being a responsible adult... but I think about sitting in a bar wasting money or becoming a fat man with no happiness.

I quickly slow down and wait for better days.

Yea u can just show up and spectate but it's gotta be ok wit the cast. And before u go out the cast has to decide whether or not to let u shine. Cause if u do and ur not supposed to then whoever ur spectatin can get scratched.

And even if ur not huntin yet do wat I did. I still went to my local club and helped out wit whatever they need. Any club needs help. And spectate often. And if I didn't then I hung out round the club after the cast left. BS and get to know everybody

There is time to work and a time to play, finding that balance is a constant struggle for me. I have a pup, I have countless hours in, but find it he is still not getting enough woods time. I consistently am torn between selling him or not. It wouldn't be an issue but I also have a 2 yr old turning 3 this fall and she is hitting her prime, and I find myself cutting time out of her hunting for the pup. I often wonder if this is a mistake.

Balance

It's tough to balance Family, Work and hunting. Always keep 1 dog and all your hunting equipment. Get that 1 dog in the woods when you have time. I've found you can't do more than 1 dog justice, unless you can always hunt 5 nights a week.

It is killing me to wait, but I am putting money to the side. When I start again I want to be able to buy a promising 3 to 4 year old and get a well bred pup. I wish I would have kept what I had, but this will be a lesson for the next time hunting time is hard to come by. I will know that I will regret selling out soon after lol.

I used to bear hunt and always had plots then and a few blue ticks. I always like blue ticks but not many people I hunted with had any so it made them hard to get them. The pup I just sold I drove 5 hours to get him he was utchman and smokey river bred with some jet in him on back. and was a beautiful pup with a loud mouth that I am kicking myself for getting rid of.

Where is he located? I don't know if it would be smart to get a pup yet, because I am not sure when I am going to be getting everything else and another dog.

If u have money I would shop around for a top notch dog.
It's a lot less headache then trying to train one yourself.
If your on a budget. I would try to find a started pup that is ready to single out. Paid up in pkc, ukc, and chkc. That way you can start hunting him immediately and the dog is still young enough to mold, and still has a lot of upside.
I would recommend sticking with one dog at a time. It takes 4 to 5 nights a week to make a good one IMO.

I am going to have 1500 to 2000 to spend on one, and then i want to get a pup afterwards. I have trained plenty of dogs in the past, but just started again after getting out of the military. The first try didn't work but I am changing jobs and will have more time next time.

I am going to have to part with my pup soon. I have him sjngled out and he is ready for a pounding this fall. I started a business this summer and have been slammed. I got 3 and need to cut back to two, and probably should cut back to 1. Maybe we can work something out. Work is killing me, its pretty sad when your self employed and still cant take a vacation. Lol

Hey, I'm a fat man but I've got a lot of happiness! Furthermore sitting in a bar hustling a game of pool is pretty fun too!

Probably the best time of year to get a good deal on a dog.
