Shock Collars Under Attack

Just saw on FOX NEWS at 7:30 this morning a debate on the use of E-COLLARS. They have already banned them in parts of the U.K. and Canada. The Vice President of AKC, American Kennel Club, Gina Dinardo is against the use of E-Collars. She said positive reinforcement is all a trainer needs if he or she is a good trainer. That no matter the mental state of the dog at the time it needs correcting a good trainer can have complete control over the dog with verbal commands and without the use of a shock collar. She said the collar is torture to our dogs as she rubbed the head of her fuzzy mutt. This world gets goofier by the day. So stock up on collars like we have 22 bullets before we cant find them anymore. The guy debating for E- COLLAR use didn't do a very good job in my opinion.

Akc

Akc has long been a lap dog organization. Their money is made that way. I separated myself from them long ago.

Kinda hard to have any type of reinforcement once the hunting dog is off leash.

I am all for the use of e- collars and own and use them , BUT we used to do just fine without them lol . I think a lot of it is terminology used on forums and discussions about FRYING A DOGS BEHIND AND LIGHTING THEM SUCKERS UP that has the uninformed at odds with there use . like has been said many times [ we are our own worst enemy ] .

obviously they have never free cast a hound, beagle or pointer with a lot of drive to do its job whichever it may be.

I would think a unified post on AKC board might go along way in changing their stance on the subject. jmo

All I have to say about this is. First of all the AKC has a lot of events all across the country such as agility herding lure coursing hunting obedience are just a few of the programs they have to offer. So why would you say anything about them being a lap dog organization. Second of all I have to agree that people shouldn't post on here and among other places. That they fry or light there dog up with an e collar. In my professional opinion it shouldn't be allowed to be posted on here or others places. Why can't people just say give the dog a correction for whatever they have done wrong. Then others can't say that people are cruel to there dogs using e collars.

AKC

That woman, which was THE VICE PRESIDENT of AKC wants to ban E-COLLARS. She didn't say she heard someone say they fried their dog so then decided her position on it. To some folks it don't make a D--N how politically correct you word your statements about hunting or the use of E-Collars. They are after banning all forms of hunting to go along with the ban on E-Collars. I am a firm believer in as sportsmen and women conducting ourselves with the utmost respect to caring for our dogs and the game we pursue. And yes, a true sportsman should watch the way he talks about correcting his hound and what he post on a thread. But that will not stop them from trying to take away your rights as a hunter and sportsman so don't believe that and put the blame on a few bad apples that post things they shouldn't.

Akc donates a lot of money to the very people that want to stop you from being able to enjoy your coonhound. Big Peta donor. Also a e-collar in the hands of a person that is not smart enough to use it is a dangerous thing. Just as dangerous is the same person mouth.

OK I watched the video. She probably won't be vice president very much longer if she keeps pushing this issue.

e-collars

So I guess its humane to let a hound run a deer out of the country and be lost. Then just starve to death. Used the right way you can break them and teach them anything with them. When she said cause them stress, I wanted to vomit!!! I guess next thing they will boycott will be tracking system because it will infringe on the dogs privacy.

I believe you should never use a correction on a dog you wouldn't do to your self. Since I have shocked myself on the highest setting which I've never had to use on a dog. I think it's more then fair for me to use the e collar.

All that being said, my e collar training program has saved my dogs from being caught out on a road more times then I can count.

I doubt we will ever need to worry about them getting banned, e collars are accepted in many training circles. Even Ceaser Millan endorses them as a proper tool.

Dog training tools are only as effective or ineffective as the trainer behind them.

The E Collar in a trainers hand is a very valuable aid in the training of any type working dog. Used with common sense, low settings, consistent, it can correct a lot more problems than trash running. My collar stays at the house 90 percent of the time but is there when needed. Yes there is probably a few MORONS using them, but I'm not one of them. There is MORONS that own guns, MORONS that give birth to children and can't take care of their on self. But the biggest MORON of all is someone who thinks dog owners that use E-COLLARS are MORONS.
