Crossbred Registration

Every other major KC (PKC,CHKC,etc) has a crossbreed program, I think it would be beneficial for UKC to also consider installing a crossbreed program. There are many cross dogs that don't fit into a specific breed standard so they can't be single registered. There are also many crossed dogs that do exceed in other KC's but won't ever get the chance in UKC. Crossbreed hounds hunting abilities are equal to pure breeds, so why not let them hunt with the pure breeds? Just my thoughts, what are everybody else's?

its already in the works.

There's lots of bugs to work out like bench showing, confirmation standards, etc. I know it must be a tremendous undertaking for them. I am waiting just like a lot of guys. I think it will be a big plus in so many areas. some of the best coonhounds I have ever hunted with were from cross bred dogs. I think the gene pool blood over every breed is so watered down now that there are just a few strains in two or three of the breeds that are even worth breeding too. Out of those just a handful of studs at that.
This would turn the coonhound breeding world upside down in about 5 years.
Im all for it.

What's wrong with single registering the dog? That's how you can do it unless the dog don't meet the breed standards. Other than that that's the only thing that would hold you back.

Dustin, take a look at the Cross-bred Dogs topic on this page. I just put it back up a few minutes ago. Do you hunt Cross-Breds?

Not all breeds can be single registered. A half Redbone and half Treeing Walker that is solid red and meets all Redbone breed standards can NOT be single registered. So your idea of just single registering won't work.

All the other kcs are hunt registries not breed registries. For the life of me I can't see any reason for ukc to even consider it except for the all mighty dollar

Thought Bellars Little Red was walker x redbone. If I were serious breeder and wanted to keep my breed pure, Id be all for the crossbreed registration and do away with single registration altogether. At least 5 breeds have mixed blood anyway.

Why wouldn't they do single registration on redbone x walker. If it looked like a redbone and meet breed standards what would be the problem. Just wanting to know as to why they wouldn't register the dog not trying to stir something. Just curious.

The Redbone association says that a dog that is half of any of the coon hound breeds cannot be single registered even if it meets the breed standards.

Anybody who is raising cross breeds are not worried about looks there's more money in treeing, so just make them exempt from competing against the regular breeds and just let them compete against cross breeds. JMO

Im breeding for personal preference that I look for in a dog. If you look at the board for pups for sale, usually the ones that are not bred to the flavor of the month they have a hard time selling them. Crossbred dogs should have there own class ,I agree with that as well but should benefit everything. Most of all the little clubs around anymore are struggling so maybe this will help bring out some of the dogs kenneled up behind the barn and bring in more income to help promote more hunts. jMO

I haven't got a problem with bringing cross breeds into the hunts. PKC is already doing it. Those that are hunting and breeding pure bread hounds will keep doing it. Comp hunting is Coondog against Coondog anyway. Jmo

Breed associations have supported cross breeding for years with single registration . So there you have it

With every so called hunter breeding to all these high powered studs u think registering crossbreds will encourage breeding junk? Would love to hear your logic behind that.

Ever heard of " Hybrid Vigor " ?
Everybody would jump on that bandwagon just like they do with the " Flavor of the month. "
Common sense should tell you that.

But Hybrid Vigor does not mean breeding junk! So please explain your logic by how this will cause the breeding of junk? Hybrid Vigor means Increased vigor or other superior qualities arising from the crossbreeding of genetically different plants or animals. Also called_heterosis.

Let the crossbred world come on in! We'll welcome y'all in with open arms! I have several in my club with crossbred hounds that would love to hunt in a comp hunt. I believe it would boost our attendance up some, not much, but some, maybe 1 cast. But I personally welcome the competition, which is something we need more of!

Oh come on. If those guy really wanted to compete with their crossbreeds, they'd be tearing it up in PKC where they have always been welcomed. The desire to compete is a totally bogus excuse. They want UKC's legitimacy for mud puppies. That is ALL this is about.
These Crossbreed guys will never support their breed or a breed day event. They only want to legitimize their individual crosses. Watch and see.
