DC 50 collar ????

My question is how much better are they compared to the dc30 and dc40. I've never used one or even seen one in action, so any input is appreciated, thanks.

Ok man, I Hunt in the steep mountains and deep hollows of Eastern KY. My 320 and all collars have tuff skin long range antennas my dc 40 and every dc 40 I have ever seen or used drops at around 1 mile or less in my terrain. The dc 30's get around 1.5 miles for me around here. I have 2 dc 50's and a buddy of mine has 2 also we both have had our dogs at 2.5 miles or better with the 50. If you like the dc 30 you will love the 50 it is basically a 30 on steroids. By far the best collar Garmin has put out. When powered on the 50 picks up way faster than any other collar. The bark feature is cool if you have a dog that isn't very loud or way off and can't hear it. It will show it barking if it is. The 50 picks up at longer range and IF it does drop signal which is very rarely it comes back WAY faster than any of the other collars. The battery life is about double. I can go on and on man. All around the dc50 SMOKES them all.

LOL

If you set your 320 to use the same satellite system{glossnos} that the 50's use,you won't tell any difference.

12 satellites tracking my dog all the time.

love my 50, hardly ever loose signal, dont show the dog moving around as much if it's still, the bark detection don't work like i imagined it would. If it shows my dog barken, he's treed already, so for me its actually a better tree switch

Man try this it should pick the range up BIG TIME on your dc 50. Ok guys and gals I posted this on another thread and it should improve range on all you collars if you have a 320. As stated above I hunt far East KY with monster mountains and deep hollows. By doing this and running long range antennas on everything I can get 1 mile or less on dc 40's around 1.5 miles on dc 30's and 2.5 or better on dc 50's sometimes more sometimes less on all collars depending on area and terrain. Power 320 on, press menu, menu, go to setup press enter, system press enter, first 1 will be GPS press enter, change from normal to WAAS/EGNOS press enter and your done. This will switch you system to the GLONASS satellites.....Hope this helps guys. Give it a try and post back results.

I was the one that posted that in the other thread. Did you try it and how did it work out for you? It should have made a pretty noticeable difference in range. Hit me back and let me know. Thanks.......

Thanks!!

Works great!!
Along with the long range antenna its the best improvement I have made.Glad I kept all my 30 collars!!!
My garmin 320 shows 12 satellites tracking my 30 collars all the time now.
Not sure how any dog could get out of sight of all 12?

same issue here. have 2 of them and both of them never show the dog bark unless treed then it works fine. One of my hounds will chop mouth on a hot track and the unit will tell me she is barking 20 barks a minute but will not show in the bark detection box any bars until the dog has come treed. ive done all the updates on garmin website and nothing has changed. Have even put the collar on tighter than normal and still get same results.........no bars in the white bark box unless dogs come treed. Disapointed cause i really wanted this feature for when dogs get out of range. I have one that is pretty tight on the ground and has a soft mouth no problem treeing coon but really want to know on windy night when she is trailing and out of hearing.

Have you tried reinstalling the software again on the 50's? I had a collar that did the same thing. I think it was Bruce Conkey that told me to try reinstalling the same software and it fixed mine. Give it a try it may work for you also.

.

Just want to make sure everyone is on the same page with the Bark Detection.
There are two things that have to be turned on and they are separate.

Simple one is Bark Detection ON/OFF this one is simple and is generally what most people do and then say it is not working because to don't do the second part.

The second thing to do is go to DOG ALERTS.
From there you turn BARK ALERT ON and then you select what type of ALERT you want. It will tone you, vibrate you, message you or tone and vibrate you. There you also select the number of barks you want those alerts to come in at.
20, 40, 60 or 80.

my alert is set to tone and vibrate and the bark alert is set at 20. If my dog only barks 15 times in a minute is that why no black bars show up in the white box that is by the dog icon on my map or the dog info page? the way i understood it the unit is suppose to relay to me everytime my dogs open on trail with black bars in the box by the dog icon. am i wrong in this?

I can't say yes and be 100% sure but I would suspect that is the case. I am trying to get more info from Garmin on the subject and I will share when I do so.

DC 50 is by far Garmin's best collar yet IMO. I have/had 30s and have a 40, the 50 is by far my fav out of them all.
I don't find the bark detection is all that useful but the overall performance is better than the others. Also smartcharge and easy to tell when you turn it on/off.

Battery life

Is setting your garmin to 12 satellites a lot harder on your batteries? My 320 eats batteries for breakfast.

Daniel- you can get a 4 pack of rechargeable batteries with charger for around 20 bucks. I can go all night with 2 sets of batteries.

No it will not affect battery life at all. Also as some else stated go buy yourself some rechargeable batteries. I bought a 4 pack of energizer rechargeable batteries with 2 chargers for like $20. I was having the same issue as you and I hunt 4 nights a week and can get at least 2-3 nights of hunting out of one set before changing. But buy name brand batteries they last longer. Also if you do switch to rechargeable or don't check to see what battery type your Garmin is set to run on this WILL make a difference in battery life. If you switch to rechargeable make sure you set it to rechargeable also......
