Hunting Waders What A Huge Disappointment !!!

Has anyone else noticed how sorry these waders are that they make this day in time. Here is a fine example I hunt at least 4-5 nights a week. In the past year have gone through 3 pair of waders. The last pair I just got less than 3 months ago. Last night I noticed they are already leaking and starting to fall apart. I first started out with the arrowheads and now with the muck boots with Pro chaps. This is just very dissappointing when you pay $150 for something and they just don't hold up. Just seeing if anyone else has noticed this problem here lately.

I've got LaCrosse Alpha Burly's with Atwell's Badlands Chaps on them and haven't had a problem one with them. I've had them two years now. Of course we don't have the underbrush you do probably.

I have bought alot of waders for duck hunting and i have come to the conclusion that it is luck of the draw. Water is a very difficult thing to keep out. Sometimes you can get a good pair that will last several seasons and other times they might leak in the first month. Though i only hunt about half as hard as you do my coonhunting chaps are a year old and still doing good.

Ok, thought I'd post this little story.

Several years ago, right after I first got married, I needed a pair of boots to hunt in. Of course I didn't have much money so I went to the local hardware store. For the life of me I can't remember the brand of the boots but they were black with red toes and a red sole. They were steel-shanked and like $20. My dad and brother swore those boots wouldn't last a week of hunting. I wore a pair of Dan's bibs over them to bust the brush.

Those boots were some of the most comfortable I've ever had. They weren't insulated so not too good for winter (I wore two pairs of thick hunting socks), but they were great summer boots. I wore them about a year and stepped on some broke glass in the woods and got a hole in the right boot. I went back and spent another $20 and wore that pair about a year too. Then I stepped on an old piece of machinery in the woods and tore a hole in the left boot. I'm a pack rat so I still had the left boot from the first pair and I wore the "mis-matched" set for almost another year when I finally bought some Alpha Burlys. Almost 3 years of hard hunting for right around $40!

I've told many a young guy who can't afford the $150 for boots with chaps to go buy some like this and some cheap chaps or a pair of briar proof bibs. You're going to get wet more often but the cost saving is worth it if you've got a family to support sometimes. I don't wear boots like that any more but I would in a second if I couldn't afford anything else.

Brian Wagoner who lived in Southern Illinois and hunted a lot of the old time big winning Walker dogs never did hunt in rubber boots. He'd wear penny loafers most of the time. I've seen Mike Harrell wear tennis shoes if it was real swampy and likely to be over waders anyway or if it was real dry walking.

Just a story. Hope you enjoy. I know we've all been in those type of positions before!

pritchard, when you ask about the heel wearing out, are you refering to the thin fabric that lines the inside of the heel? if so i doubt there is anything that can be done. i've never paid it any attention and just figured it was expendable. i wear one pair of good socks with an old pair over them to take the wear of chaffing on the heal. or, you can try a pair of dress socks, the nylon kind that will slide more easily agaomst rubber of the boot.

i used to work in a rubber molding shop. the get one piece to bond with another piece of rubber, both must be at the right temperture, primed evenly and pressed together with the exact pressure. if all factors are right you can't pull them apart. if not they'll fall apart. i've had some of each.

I have just come to the conclusion that until something changes I'm doomed to either get wet or spend $600 a year on boots. I go through a pair about every three months. The first pair I ever bought were Wicks and they lasted me 1 year and only cost $110. I hunted in tennis shoes before that even in the winter. I guess I was just a lot tougher back then. Then again we carried a car battery in a back pack hooked to a spot light and walked everywhere we went. So I know I was a lot tougher.

All of you guys need to try the dunlop boots! Theyre made out of dunlop rubber and i guarantee they last longer than lacrosse, muck, grubs etc because ive owned those pairs before as well. Ive had my dunlops over a year now and they dont leak a drop. The trade off is theyre heavier and not as comfortable but they are by far the most durable rubber boot you can buy. Also the traction on the soles puts all other boots to shame...

i've been blessed with nearly perfect feet so anything is comfortable to me. i've had alpha burleys that lasted a couple of years and some that didn't last that long. i think it's largely a matter of getting lucky and getting a good pair.

Boots

Fellas what I'm offering here is my opinion. I've seen this topic come up a few times before and just read and moved on. Several on here have said that Muck boots are no good. The one these fellas had might have been awful, but Muck makes a whole line of boots. Which boot did these folks try? If I was using a Ford Ranger to pull a 5th wheel horse trailer and it didn't perform I wouldn't say Ford is no good. Myself and several others in this area are using the Muck Armor Sport. This boot is snake proof, comfortable, and very durable. I got hung on a jagged piece of sheet metal in the woods one night and that didn't cut em. Had mine over a year, worn em in several states, hunt about 6 nights a week, and put 280 pounds on them every time. They still got plenty left. When time comes to buy again it will be Muck Armor Sport. They cost a little more, but you know what they say about that.

Froglegs ?

A question for those that are not pleased with the froglegs available today....what appears to be the biggest issue, the boots that are available, or the froglegs themselves? How long are the boots lasting you guys on average? And lastly, do those boot companies give a warranty when their product fails? For Dave H check out Randy Reynolds post on the other forum,he has tried the under armor boots, see what he thinks.

Waders (hip boots)

Many, Many, years ago Red Ball boot company made a all rubber hip boot that was almost impossible to wear out...In those days all tires had tubes, and if you got a leak you could whip out a tube patch and fix it in a couple of minutes...These boots would last for years if you could afford to buy the patches...
