Rule Changes

Many new additions that are very controversial to many 'old time' coonhunters in UKC that may make them harder to pass. A lot of these rule changes will depend on whom the breed associations have selected to be their reps to vote on these issues. If they are 'old timers', I don't think they will vote for many of these new proposals, unless there is a lot of association members let their reps know that they are in favor of these changes. IMO, many are a step in the right direction that are needed.

Just 'knit pickin' the proposals:
1- why was the '1st trees' only to be used for tie breaker? It seems to me that it would be easier to pass if all tree points for a hunt were used.
2- dogs already at a tree when judge arrives are minused if coon is seen, so it don't seem feasible to minus them if no coon is seen.
3- why minus dogs for coming into tree after judge arrives, if no coon is seen? If you're there for 7 minutes shining lights & start blowing squallers for next 3 minutes & a dog comes in to take minus even if coon isn't seen, it don't seem possible to pass a rule like this.

If not to be voted on by rules committee, when is UKC going to change their policy on the use of the Alpha on a cast? Just make the change, that the 'prongs' must be removed from collar to use on a cast. They would be no different than the other Garmins that are allowed, but this change should be taken care of NOW by them. JMOP. Take care, Ron.

It would be great if the Breed Associations would provide a forum of some sort to allow the membership to give input on how it would like it's reps to vote on these proposals. At the very least, maybe they could announce who the rule reps are.

I'm just glad UKC changed the rule change session to every 3 years instead on every two years as it once was. A couple proposals are probably for the better but the rest need to be shown the door.

Proposal 6 is probably the very worst proposal I have seen since I have been in this sport.
Any numbnuts getting his ass handed to him can walk by my dog while everyone is diligently searching the tree and yell "this dog just grabbed me!!!". Uh, well, grabbing is certainly aggressive, that dog is scratched!

In Indiana, the sheriffs dept is required by law to investigate and order confined any dog that bites a human. Even if that human owns the dog that bit it. That outweighs anything UKC can put in it's ruleb book and I seriously doubt Indiana is the only state with such a law.

Spectators

So glad to see this rule finally brought up for a vote. I see this rule as the most commonly ignored rule anyways so might as well change it.

X2
Any rule as universally ignored as that one certainly needs review.
Probably the second most ignored rule is Rule 11, prop # 9.

Rule Changes

I agree with Rolin Blues on 2&3. Dog should not be minused for coming in to tree after cast arrives where coon is not seen. Do like second and third count down on tree points.

Dogs shut out on strike to receive minus tree points only.

__________________________________________________
_________________________________ 3.) Eliminate Rule 5b and add to Rule 4: Any dog(s) coming into a tree, after the judge arrives, to receive its strike points minused, regardless of how tree is scored. If dog is shut out refer to Rule 3(d).

A dog must be gone for five minutes or be declared struck before time is lifted.

6.) Add rule to cover dog aggression towards cast members as follows: If dog shows aggression towards any cast member.

__________________________________________________
_________________________________ Rule 8. TIME OUTS:

7.) Remove (c) and replace with: When all dogs in cast are on leash and have been scored.

Rule

I agree 100 percent on tree point countdown I need to study some of the other changes before I can have an honest input on them. I have been competing in the hunts for almost 30 years and agree some changes need made. I would really like to see ukc go back to the old babbling rule.

I guess in confused as to what it matters if its an alpha or not? The controller must be shut off, how can you shock, or even tone, when the controller is off?

Can't say i am in favor of any of them, but i am sure against afew for sure. Countdown is still up in the air with me. Hunting grounds are smaller, and its going to promote a lot of "independent breeding" in my opinion, but it really doesn't matter to me one way or the other. I don't like, nor will i support the spectator shine rule. Why would anyone want to give another cast member two more eyes to look with? I know, if he is there, he is there, but then sometimes my old eyes don't work as well as the younger ones, and it is harder to find one with what could now become 12 lights burning down a tree instead of 4 dim ones. I like it as it is now.

robert

if you had an old time coondog that had the coon you would like someone else seeing a coon for you no more circle tree would be the best new law and the only new law allowed in ukc

I like the countdown format, but on the other hand it adds a disadvantage to being a hunting judge. already enough to keep track of. jmo

How would this rule be in-forced? Judge's discretion? Cast vote?
6.) Add rule to cover dog aggression towards cast members as follows:
If dog shows aggression towards any cast member.
