Lets all be honest

Some of us like to be known a hard hunter. But when it's 80+ degrees out, no breeze and 90% humidity . How many of you HONESTLY still hunt just as hard . For me this is the hardest time of the year for me to stay motivated . When ya work 10+ hours a day in the heat the last thing you wanna do is go hunt . But I still manage to hunt 2 maybe 3 nights a week if I'm lucky . One of those nights is on the weekend an I do usually hunt all night when I do . is this the normal with many of you this time of year?

I don't hunt during June July august. But I go as much as I can from Sept-May. Just dont think taking a chance getting a dog snake bit or heat stroke is worth it. Im fortunate to have 3 acres fenced in to let the dogs off and run for a few hours every other day. Also take them for a swim in the neighbors pond occasionally. Just to help keep them in shape.

plus berries are ripe and kits are every where.last year she caught a bunch on the ground,so i back off.

if i had a young dog/pup,i'd hunt more.

I agree the heat doesnt bother me but not turning loose till almost 10 and having to wake up at 5 in the morning sure does make it harder to go every night haha

I wish it got dark at 9 around here. Last night I went to bed at 10 and it was still plenty light enough to be out in the yard with no light of any kind. It hasn't been getting good and dark until 1030 unless it's overcast.

Summer before last (I still lived in IL) me and a buddy hunted every night June-July-August. Well, I say every night. We'd hunt 20 nights then take one off then go again. Didn't matter if it rained or what, we were hunting. After a while I got used to the lack of sleep and the heat. The dogs did too. We started before it got super hot and hunted through it. They naturally built up their resistance to the heat. Hunted around water and had good hunts when everyone else was at home.

I wouldn't start hunting in 90 degree weather after not hunting at all though. That's a good way to give you or your dog heatstroke. Wish I was hunting that hard this summer, but I'm not.

Yeah it didn't get dark until around 9:45-10 here and if you make two drops its midnight . I may start doing what a friend of mine does . He works till 5 . Eats dinner and sleeps till 1-2 a.m and hunts until daylight

That's not a bad idea if you can sleep then. I've got two little boys. The only time I get to see them if from 5 to their bedtime.

I do like hunting early morning like that though. Something awesome about seeing the sun come up while you're walking to or from that last tree.

I've tried a few times to do it this summer and when the alarm rings at 1:00 in the morning I think to myself . Maybe next time and fall back to sleep idk if its me or just with all coon hunters but I'm always tired and could sleep all the time

when I had a dog I was excited about, it was EVERY NIGHT regardless. rain, heat, snow, sub artic cold, didn't matter. we hunted. if the dog couldn't keep up with the program, it died or found a new home. I didn't care how well it did the first night off the chain, or the 5th night strait off the chain, it was how it did when we got to the 3 figure strait nights.

I would work from 7 till 4 or 5, sleep till 10 or 11pm, and hunt from then till 5 or 6am. go home, put the dog up, shower and head to work.

most didn't last very long anyway and got lead poisoning or handed off to some coffie shop coonhunter.

loose was one of 3 exceptions. I hunted him over 700 nights in 2yrs. even under that program he never failed to get gone in a hurry and tree a ton of coon.......... he did thin out the number of people who called to tag along night after night though.....he wore out lots of boots and lots of hunters.

99.999999999999% of coonhunters fall in that "coffie shop coonhunter" category though, and are lucky to hunt 50 nights a year let alone 350

99.9999% ? That's a little bit of a high percentage . Not sure if its too accurate but you may not be too far off . The months of July -August it's an average of 3 nights for me and other than that its at least 5 nights a week . Regardless of my passion for the sport and training pups and dogs .... I still like to think there's more to life than coonhunting

I live in Ms and work a month on & a month off. In the winter I average hunting 21 days out of the 28 I'm home. In the summer I don't hunt as much mainly because it just dark a lot later. But once I go 5 nights in a row I pretty much go every possible night I can after that till I leave for work. My dog helps keep me motivated also. After I take him a few nights in a row he'll sit on the porch and bawl when it gets dark letting me know it's time to go! Lol a lot of my hunts are shorter in summer though. Plus there's plenty of water in my area between swamps and the river to keep them cool. I usually load him on the fourwheeler and take him to the river after each tree to cool him down.

For most of us a little thing called "life" happens and turns us into just another coffee shop coonhunter, long winded and full of tall tales with a couple pot lickers tied up behind the barn. And don't it sure make you mad when you've hunted one for months on end, night after night and your buddy pulls out his grade dog that's been laid up for afew months and shows you up, lol.
