I've fed Diamond pre and post issues, and have never personally had a problem.

I have had problems with other's though, and usually my dogs let me know. If they don't gobble it up, then there's probably something wrong with, and I throw it out and buy another bag. I wouldn't do that often, though! But things happen, that are beyond the control of the manufacturer... bag get's wet in transportation or in a warehouse, get's moldy or stale, etc.

I've been please with Diamond and Extreme Athlete, although it is a bit expensive.

Right at 20% fat content, I would highly recommend Ultra, High Energy 24/20. That has been great and affordable dog food for me, but it's no loger in my area.

the diamond in my area comes from the SC plants and that is where the issue was at, that is my concern. I know others still feed it but pre and post, but I do not want to chance it. thanks.

Cynthia, can I ask why you want a higher fat content? not being critical, just curious. can you possibly add a supplement to the feed you are currently feeding?

have one male that has gotten skinny. feeding proplan savor shredded mixed with p.ONE shredded. fat % I think is in the 16%. all have been wormed (him 2x), in good health. appears healthy, pink gums, UTD on shots. just now having the 2nd of 2 girls go out of heat, hoping that is the reason for his weight loss. had a bout of diarrhea (bout 3days). got that cleared up. have added white bread to feedings, he eats 2x daily, 8cups daily, 1-2 poop day, solid. constantly moving in pen (has always done that tho). I was just wondering if there was anything more than 20%, but I guess I'll try the 20% which is a step up from the 16% he is on now. He has been 'normal' weight before so I know what his normal weight is. what he is now is not normal. he just had a check up a few weeks ago. I could get some of the salmon oil and add that.

if you can get it, I won't feed anything but the Ultra Advantage 24/20 - we have tried tons of others and always go back. even the ones that run their pens or females on pups - 4 to 4 1/2 cups a day puts weight on, all the others get 3 cups a day.

Cynthia, I feed Showtime 31/22. I love it. It comes in a 50lb bag.
The store I get it from has it for $30.50. But if you buy 5 bags or more it drops down to $29.50 a bag. My dogs have a good weight on them even being hunted. The coats are slick and shiny.

I feed Southern States 24/20 to my coyote hounds. Had one that did not put on weight. Started feeding this and a big turn around. These dogs are run 5-7 days a week.

I've had a few people tell me that they were feeding Pro Plan and the dogs were not holding weight.

I gave been feeding Nutrena feeds for about 5 years now and not had a problem with any of their feed. Doesn't matter how hard i hunt the dogs or if its a dig that will not put on weight. Nutrena puts the weight on and keeps it on. They have the Nutrena Pro Premium which is a 26/19 and an excellent feed about 34$for 40lbs or Nutrena HI N R G 24/20 about 34$ and they have Loyall 26/19 which is also a great feed.

If you are interested in the Nutrena products you can search their website for dealers. Nutrena has been around many many years .

I cannot believe you are feedin 8 cups aday, thats alot. Conditioning is in the eye of the beholder, some people think dogs have to be fat, some only want muscle tone. What I have found out is that if you want a fat dog, feedem a corn based dog food. If you want muscle tone feed a good meat,no grain dog food.

I just went thru this with one of mine. She's a pacer and with the long drawn out winter here couldn't keep the weight on her.
So I did a couple of things.
First I switched wormer. I ordererd a broad spectrum wormer. It has praziquantel, oxantel embonate and pyrantel in it.
Then I put her on a auto feeder. I feed Diamond E.A. I just let her eat what she wanted. SHE ATE A LOT. I'm not hunting her, so no need to worry about a twisted stomach. Then I added satin balls twice a day. 1/4 pound both morning and night.
A week later, she was a completely different looking dog. I'm guessing she put on 5-8 pounds. She's still on the auto feeder. She slowed down on that.
I stopped the satin balls after the first week.
I ordered the wormer from Australia. It was 30.00 for two pills with shipping. Each pill treats an 88 pound dog.
Here's a link for the wormer.

http://www.vidalspets.com/epages/vi...hops/vidalspets

A link for satin balls.

Good luck.

you are right about the problem coming from south ca. But unless u are going to be eating it there's not a lot to worry about. We have been feeding diamond for 15 yrs now and never had the first problem.
