Answer me this resident Liberals

if the democrat liberal way of thinking works, why are the states in the worse financial shape just happen to be run in the most liberal ways?

check out the financial shape of illinois and california. ILLINOIS IS THE #1 STATE IN THE WORSE FINACIAL SHAPE AND CALIFORNIA ISnt VERY FAR BEHIND.

how do you explain this?

My initial guess would be bc the conservative Republicans used to run them and got them so far out if whack it will take the democrats 20-30 years of raising taxes to fix this mess. Lol

As a matter of fact I'm sure if you dig deep enough into their problems they can be traced to George W. Bush. Haha

That was for comedic value. The prior two post detailed black and white proof of exactly the point I made

Many other states went ahead and kicked their retirees to the curb right away. Obviously CA and IL are hanging in their trying to figure out a better way to solve their budget issues than on the backs of the elderly. Don't worry, they will figure out how. Unlike many states that will just kick their retirees to the curb....
THere is a lot of wealth in those states, they will be just fine. There is a media blitz about this now cause the corporatists would love any excuse to kick more retirees to the curb. If they can make it seem ok for state gov to do it then it will be fine when the corps do it. Nifty plan. I am sure you are on the side of the corporations rather than the retirees.

That would be very beleiveable if the unfunded retirement plans were corporate,But they are public unions, unions that were promised retirement by big talken lefties ritein checks with their mouths their a$$ can't cash. They got caught speedin and now it will be up to the middle class taxpayer to bail them out.It was your guys that spent their retirement, not the corporations(or GW Bush).Pay attention!

But wait your prior post said this was a made up story by rush? So which one of your posts is the truth and which one is a lie

An u argument holds no water because all the states are dealing with the same issues. It's no accident that the two most worse off are the two most liberal

Illinois thrives on corruption and patronage, makes no difference who is in power, same deal- different faces. The pension problem is the result of the legislature never funding the state responsibility as law requires, now house just passed a bill that would cap and in some cases eliminate pension increases which are 3% per yr., this was mandated by the 1970 state constitution, no doubt that future retirees will have different benefits, but not constitutional to take from those already retired. State retirees with 20 yrs. get free health insurance, teachers do not and also are not covered by social security-medicare. The changes proposed would impact state and teachers retirement programs, but not touch retired judges, also chicago teachers have a separate system. The solution in Illinois is a short rope and a tall tree for those elected to serve who only serve their own self interest...

public pensions and public unions need to be done away with. they are no better then the rest of us and need to save for their own retirements and not expect it to be fully funded with tax payers dollars. when your union reps try to bleed every last drop of money they can get out of a contract it leads to unsustainable promises. i just hope the rest of the country isnt forced to bail out these state's retirement funds like we had to do with general motors.

is a coincidence that when a pension plan is unsustainable that 99% of the time a union is involved?

pensions are a benefit of employment, I paid into what I am able to get, earned it, same as a private sector pension where the employer pays in for the employee, guess social security and all pensions should be done away with according to what you stated, public and private, everyone should be totally responsible for themselves, guess health insurance should be the same...
Just a question, Rance, are you social security eligible and will you accept it when times come to do so???

Let me educate u Ron. I imagine less than half of the contributions that went into your pension was your personal contributions. So the majority of it is funded with tax payers dollars. Second the payout rates on these pensions are typically very generous and in alot cases eligible for collecting well before normal retirement age. As oppose to you my company did away with their pension plan shortly after I started because they knew it was unsustainable and we as workers realized this also. So the difference with me is unlike you the majority of what is put in my retirement acct is my personal contributions an what the company does put in there isn't funded by tax payers dollars

An when it comes to social security I'll pay into more than the benefit I'll get out of it and I'm perfectly fine with them adjusting my benefits down now an leave those in retirement or near alone so
the system has a chance of surviving

With that being said if I dOnt end up collecting a dime of ss I'll still be fine because I'm planning accordingly

Rance,
You do have some information correct, tax dollars do support my pensions, but the legislature has never funded as required by law... You may not like to hear this, but I retired under an early retirement option for educators at age 52, had 30 yrs. of service and was given 5 to go early, I pd. in what was lacking to compensate for this option, I also collect social security and have medicare, but lost 60% of what I was eligible for because was in education in a state that does not have that for educators, I also collect university systems annuity, but it is locked at a fixed amt., I started collecting ss and university systems at age 62, I pay for medicare part B and for supplemental coverage through teacher retirement. I also still teach 2 or 3 college classes a semester. No doubt that there are things that need to be controlled and managed correctly in public as well as private pensions. I was able to collect early, but my pension would have been much greater if I waited until age 65, but have collected quite a few years before that time, no complaints here. Is the amt. that your employer contributes to your 401k taxable... Glad to hear that you are preparing for the future and not depending on a pension that may not exist, do not believe that will happen to me do to age... Good luck, you are doing it the right way....

Ron if I was in ur position I would take advantage of everything available to me to fullest but I would also accept change when it came. What I do have a problem with is the govt employees n Florida up n arms over having to contribute a medley 3 percent to their retirement. Heck the state is alreafy funding all their retirement an taking on all the investment risk An what I'll have a huge issue with is if I have to bailout your kush retirement plan with my tax payer dollars. Especially if it's for a state I don't even live in

I ask u r u going to expect taxpayers to bailout your pension plan if the money ends up running out?
