no need for dogs to be on grass...

that huge barn was plenty big enough to hold every dog on the place. half of it wasnt even utilized. Sorry that put you out, but dont understand why you would be upset about that.
Of course I am bias because I live here and would love to see it back, but every single person I talked to and I talked to dozens and they all said the accomodations were outstanding and lots better than albany (no knock on your guys cause I wouldnt want it moved from here either) the inside vendor area was great...the bench show area was excellent with tons of seats for viewing. no bad seats at all. it wold literally hold a few hundred spectators.
Overall I think it was an awesome event. all the hotels were full, restaurants were all full. some decent scores. I know of at least one cast with over 900 that was scored, a couple 400 plus casts.
there were lots of dens made and if you look on this board, dens are being treed everywhere else in the country.

Thanks UKC for an outstanding job. Hope you come back.

ok.......... let me clarify myself...........i said the faculitys were top notch , WAY better than ALBANY....but my gripe was only this.......... it was a coon hunt ., an the signs........no dogs on grass!!!! what did they expect, at AUTUNM OAKS for example you could walk around for hours in the back yard lookin at dogs an stuff, thats the part of the big hunts i enjoy.....again kudos on the faculitys , not gripin bout that , just like bein able to walk round yard an shoot the bull an trade................................. I hear you buddy... I know somebody

on the city council....I will make sure next year if they make it back here that I wll go to a board meeting and give um a 2 cents for you.

We have never had anything like this and I am sure they didnt really know what to expect. If I was a betting man, I would say they were looking at a clean up project nobody wanted to touch. hahaha
Cant say I blame them. I am a dog man though and I would be on your side on this one. I never looked over that way really so I wasnt aware of the signs.

Also have a buddy that writes for the local paper. I'll sick him on it and get the inside scoop and try and report back. Glad you enjoyed it.

Come on UKC make my year and put us down for another round.

I wasnt ready with the dog power this year. only had a pup and a pregnant old dog. That aint much to go to this dance with.
We will open up a can of whup it next year if it comes back.

I saw the signs around the civic center.

I don't blame them. I walked my dogs out past next to the stud barn where there were dogs tied (or had been before it started raining) and got dog crap and mud all over me.

Its not a sin for the civic center to want to keep up appearances. There's a ton of disrespectful folks in this and all sports. People don't clean up after themselves much less their hounds. It was nice not to see and HEAR dogs tied out on every post like Grand American.

Batesville will get the kinks worked out. Give them a chance.

There was ONLY No dogs on the grass right around the Civic Center itself, not everywhere else. And you could sell dogs and pups, just not over excessive so there would be room for everyone else. I really enjoyed it a lot and it went off great! Looking forward to next year and every year in Batesville, Ms.

If people would clean up after their own dogs, having dogs on the grass may not be as much of a problem.

"No Dogs on the Grass"

Those signs were placed around the immediate areas surrounding the civic center on three sides only. There are acres of grass area available elsewere on the grounds for tieing out dogs so it makes good sense to try and help out the good folks running the facility to not have to clean up dog crap in the immediate area surrounding the building. Otherwise, there was a plethora of grassy areas available as dump stations for dogs.

I only saw the "No Dogs" signs on the lawn directly around the Civic Center building...

just a few more feet across the pavement, from the back "show staging area", and behind the dog barn, there was more than enough room to walk the hounds.

If there were signs out that way, I didn't see them...

It may have been just a little inconvenient to most to walk a few more feet, but it was doable....I personally didn't understand all the hype the entire situation got...

WINTER CLASSIC

In my opinon it was a top of the line event at the civic center.the temps were just right for the dogs comming out of the northern areas .U.K.C. handled getting the hunters out in a timley manner and the guides put the hunters in coon. The people of batesville seem to enjoy having us there and im sure they will get the dust problem resolved for next year.

The event was super and the facilities were top notch. The only place the signs were was on the lawn around the building. Someone's dog crapped on the sidewalk near the center about 20 feet from the "no dogs on grass sign" and didn't clean it up. I don't think "no dogs on grass" means "dogs allowed to crap on sidewalk." Be courteous. I will definately be back next year...had a blast.

I didn't see poop stations, but most everybody took their dogs out to the grass behind the barn, on the side of the back (actually front I think) entrance, or way back behind the back parking lot grass. There was a lot of real estate to take them. It may be a good suggestion to put clearly marked poop stations around the buildings and maybe even in the populated grass areas (there was lots of poop behind the barn even though it was out in the grass areas).

if MORE ppl would pick up the poop, MORE locations for events would be available. who wants to come in after dog event and find poop on the ground???

bags can be bought for a few dollars. keep them in the dog box. I have a roll in the truck, in my bag. take them with you when the dog goes.

I always save my Bi-lo bags or grocery bags for my poop picker upper bags. I always do my best to clean up after mine. At the hotel we kept it clean around all 3 of our tieouts. The hotel manager even made a comment when we were checking out about how we were one of the few who did.

Everyone's fussing about how well the people of Batesville treated us, well how well did us dog folks treat them???? They may not want us back!

The one's complaining should just tie their dogs out on their own front porch and see how that works out for them.
