Grand American Entries

I have had several people who have contacted me saying they could not hunt due to female in season, dog injured etc. I have helped two of them sell their entry to someone who missed the deadline etc.
If you are in this situation I have no problem in you selling your entry to someone. You bought it and its yours, if you can recoup your money that is great. Just have whoever you sell it to come to the GA office at 11am Friday and we will make the change. Just write on your entry postcard or something that you sold it to them and sign it.
I have a young man in Georgia right now whose wife sent in his entry late. He is looking for one for both nights.

DAVID , IS THIS NOT AN ALL PRE ENTRY HUNT? AND HAS THE DEADLINE NOT ALREADY PASSED? THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANY BUYING AND SELLING OF ENTRIES AT ANY UKC MAJOR EVENT. YOU ARE OPENING UP A CAN OF WORMS THAT COULD GET REAL MESSY REAL QUICK!!!! YOU NEED TO RETHINK THIS. .... RANDY G HALL

what matters if the entries are already paid for and a guy cant go ? like where i live.....i entered and now have a foot of snow on the ground and wont be able to hunt before the hunt.....u think a guy whose dog is tied up for 2 or 3 weeks straight is gonna win a big hunt like this? i was considering selling my entry.......its mine, its paid for ,whats the big deal?

Randy,
Don't know how it could get messy, or anything else for that matter. In todays economy $60 is alot of money to lose. If we can help someone keep from losing their money I don't see that as anything but helping out a fellow coonhunter. We are not violating any UKC policy and are simply trying to help someone by making a simple change prior to the hunt. No more difficult than printing out a new entry slip.
UKC's policies for dogs in season, injured, killed , etc is different from ours as well. We don't require you to have a statement from a vet. Nor do we require you to re-enter with a dog in your name. It is our policy to make it as easy as possible to hunt and not lose your money. This is just another step to help out the hunters.

ok david, here is a question. all the major hunts are PRE ENTRY. WITH A DEADLINE TO ENTER. IF SOMEONE CAN BUY SOMEONES ENTRIES, TO HELP OUT SOMEONE OUT, AFTER THE DEADLINE HAS COME AND GONE THEN WHY EVEN HAVE A PRE ENTRY AT ALL? OR FOR THAT MATTER WHY EVEN HAVE A DEADLINE AT ALL FOR ENTERING THE HUNTS OR FOR HUNT NIGHTS? IF YOU PUT A 3:00 AM DEADLINE IF YOU ARE NOT GOING TO UPHOLD A DEADLINE THEN HOW CAN YOU TELL A HUNTER WHO COMES IN AT 3:15 AM THAT HE IS PAST THE DEADLINE TIME. WHAT IF THE HUNTER THAT COMES IN LATE IS ONE OF THE ONES WHO BOUGHT THIER ENTRY AFTER THE DEADLINE, HE COULD THEN FIGHT THE TIME DEADLINE BY STATING " WELL I GOT MY ENTRIES AFTER THE DEADLINE SO HOW CAN YOU NOW SAY THAT I AM LATE AS YOU DONT UPHOLD DEADLINE LIMITS FOR ANYTHING ELSE" JMO

Some of these posts about entries are ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS! If you read David's post, he is doing a very nice and good thing for the hunt. If you are a winner, would you rather beat 600 dogs or 400? If you ain't in it to beat 600, go pleasure hunt!

What's it matter anyways???

I didn't see you throwing a fit when 2012 Autumn Oaks and World Hunt formats were changed! I guess you don't say anything unless you got an egg in the basket, right?

NO! In fact, he did enter by deadline, because the entry was bought prior to deadline and then resold to an outside party. Think about it!

This is done ALL of the time with only 16-64 dogs entered on the bright side of the world. I've seen entries sold at the grounds 10min before hunt deadline without any problems! Hunts with $5,000 purses and you're worried about a little trophy hunt! C'mon!

U have a pre entry at. Big hunts mainly for lining up enough guides to put the dogs in the bushes. The entry has already been accounted for so it's just switching dog for dog. I think it is a great idea. U have to make the change at 11 in the morning. A hunt over deadline is apples and oranges to what is being talked about here.

so what you are saying is that I can buy someones grand night entries even though it is past the deadline, and then when I go to confirm my entry I can tell them I bought this but I don't have a grnt, I have a registered or nite ch, and they have to change the information they have and no one is supposed to get upset?

No more difficult than printing out a new entry slip. The reading comprehension on this board blows my mind sometimes.

Think about this. What about all the people that are currently on the waiting list to get to hunt that already paid their entries in, but now Joe decides he doesn't want to hunt and sells his entry to Bob and now Henry who was in line and previously paid before deadline might not get to hunt.

I just dont see how that is fair.

If someone wants to sell theirs, why not sell it back to the Grand American, then they can figure up all the wait listed dogs, and then sell whatever entries they have gathered up at the grounds.

Mrs. Clayton,
We guarentee 350 entries per night. Thanks to the dedication of the clubs that make up the Grand American we have enough hunting guides to put over 400 dogs in the woods. We have 364 entries each night this coming event. In the 25 years that I have been involved with the Grand American we have never had to refuse an entry. We have to cut guides every year. Yours is a good point, and if we thought this would prevent someone from getting to hunt it would not be considered.
Requiring pre-entries is to set up a guide base and make administrative prepartions prior to an event. You could not take 300+ entries on the grounds and expect to start drawing out the casts 1- 1 1/2 hours later. At a major event you simply don't have time to sell whatever entries you may have "gathered up".
To us this not a difficult thing, simply helping out a fellow coonhunter. Pre entering an event and missing a "hunt" deadline are two different things. The deadlines that govern the confirmation of the entry as well as the deadline for returning the scorecards to the MOH are always strictly enforced.
At any major event you always have no shows, dogs moving up from one class to the other, dogs being replaced for dogs injured, in season, or deceased etc, etc. If any of this upsets anyone involved with the admin part of a major event then they need to find something else to do
We are coonhunters and we are helping coonhunters. Without the coonhunters there would be no events. We appreciate each and every one who particaipates in our event.
God Bless and Happy New Year!!

Justin,
We haven't had those requirements for quite awhile ( since I have been president). If your dog comes up lame Saturday let me know and we will be glad to make the change.

A win / win for everybody as long as they resell for the same price . If some start scalping the entries it may have to be reevaluated .

I've bought a Friday and Saturday night entry, thank you for all the people that have called me. If you're wanting to hunt in the Grand American this weekend this is the way to do it.
