there is many good lines out still. and you dont have to put hound in them to make good coon dogs. roy pennell in IL. has some great mountain curs. you need to make sure they come from parents that really hunt. the stephens cur is also a very good line on of cur on coon and squirrel. if you want i could get you in touch with Roy pennel.

Guess some of them are pretty good when crossed maybe a lot of them but I wouldn't say the more the better. If that is the type of dog you want you might as well just get a hound.

I'm a Stephens Man myself they are good squirrel dogs and good coon dogs as well. If I was strickly looking for a squirrel dog I would get an omc dog. If I wanted a strickly coon dog can be a stephens in my opinion.

I don't know of any Omc dogs that are cold nosed. But most Stephens dogs are. There are a couple of good lines depending on whether you want to hunt squirrel or coon.

I am a treeing cur guy but i will have to admit that you will find more mt cur breeders or hunters than you will treeing curs. There are only a proven hand full of Treeing Cur breeders out there that have been doing this long enough to have a line and a system. A good mt cur is that way I would advise you to go if your seeking a CUR dog. Im not knocking my own dog of choice, but there is not as many in the treeing curs to pull from. In fact im getting a Mt Cur to cross back into my treeing curs.

Ive heard of that line of blackmouths, ive heard of them on squirrels mostly. Ive hunted with a 3 year old treeing cur last year and treed 4 in 2 hours with it. He was silent on track like a cur with walker build, body, and coloration. I really liked that dog. Can you register a UKC registered dog with NKC and still keep its UKC registry? And also, What are the most known Stephen Cur bloodlines that are dependable tree dogs on coons?

I started using mtn curs for hog hunting back in the late 1980's and early 1990's. The best by far were the Texas Smoke bred dogs...I crossed a 3/4 Texas Smoke female to a 1/2 Kemmer 1/2 OMCBA and that nicked pretty good...bred them tight all the way till 2007 when I sold out and that was a big mistake... because a good mtn cur of the type I like is hard to find...good sized athletes with a fair length of ear...A dog that will hunt at a run and stick to the track for hours if needed to bay a hog...and when the hog got in the thick thick briars for the dog to go in and bay the hog...I believe there are a few bloodlines of this type of mtn cur out there...so if you know that type of dog please pm me...
