Garmin Alpha Dog Tracking and training System (NEW)

What's everyone's opinion of the New Garmin Alpha Dog. Just noticed it was posted on Garmin's website.

You can read more about it
www.dusupply.com/garmin-alpha-combo.html

I'm Guessing the Press release will happen any second from now.

Can you track your old dc40's and dc30's with the new system?

I see that they put an external gps antenna on this new collar, unlike the DC40.

Thats a killer if you already have one. But the Alpha seems to have everything a person could want. I wonder will they continue making the Dc 40's and 320's

It doesn't look like this one will be legal for UKC or PKC competition. Also, I wonder what the TT range is?

The TT range should be the same as the Tracking range,

Also you should be able to change ID numbers at Distance rather than having to get close to the dog.

Wow!!! It says it tracks up to 9 miles. You're saying it will shock a dog up to 9 miles?

Hounded I haven't had one in my hands yet but by what I have read and tried to understand I think they will have to be UHF instead of VHF. Do you know if this is true or not??

I love it! I do not like the fact the systems are not compatable
One feature I like is the fact you can see where your buddy is and send him a message if you want!

If you are able to track the dog, you are able to use the ecollar. The range will not be much different than a good working 320 and DC40. Lots of crazy new features that will be well worth the extra money.

Bruce,

It's the same Murs Frequency as the Alpha. 9 Miles is the same they claim for the Astro.. Take those numbers with a Grain of salt.

Tracking wise, The best thing about it is the GPS antenna is back on top.. That's a Big Plus for me, I still have not been satisfied with the DC40's for that reason.

They are using an Antenna Much like your Tuff Skin, and my new Stainless Tuff Skins.

Thanks Hounded.
I also told the engineers over a year ago they could put a simple circuit in the collar that if the battery got to a lower level or on for a certain period of time the update rate should kick down and save the battery. I think they have something here. I just hope they come out with a track only collar which I haven't seen yet with the same design.
Next thing they need to do is come out with that collar design for the Astro Series and get the GPS antenna back on top. You knew that also a long time ago. lol

From what I can tell, it looks like another leap in training technology. I have used my 220/dc collars for training a hundred times more than I have ever used it for finding my dog.

Thats pretty nifty there. Maybe by the time I can hunt more again and can afford one they will have all the bugs worked out..probably have another system coming out by then.

Gonna be funny in a few years..when I pull out the ol 220 Im gonna feel like I got one of them quick track deals.

Rules say you can't carry a shocker and since this serves both purposes you wouldn't be able to carry it on you. I think you should still be able to leave it on and in the truck though.

Hounded, the collar looks alot like the one I got from you. It picks up alot better then the one I got with the 320.

Good Morning Fellas!

There has been a considerable amount of thought that has gone into all areas of this project.... the contact points are removable....

Jim, I'll slip down for a hunt in the next night or two and you can look at the new unit, you will blown away by how nice the Alpha is!

It has the COOLEST features and the folks at Garmin have listened to what many of you have had to say about their products and incorporated your feedback into the Alpha....

I have been using one of the new Alpha's for a little over a week..... it is an amazing piece of equipment!

Touch screen, the ability to immediately correct your dog using Momentary or Continuous stimulation or the tone button, the ability to see where your buddies are and where the dog is, a "Rescue" or extended battery life mode on the collar that gives you many extra hours of running time, 20 collar capability, the ability to send short, preset messages back and forth to your hunting partners and on and on..... there are almost too many new and revolutionary things about this product to write about!

The Alpha should start shipping the middle of August so look for them at Autumn Oaks and the Labor Day Classic.

This unit is not compatible with the Astro 220 or 320, DC 20's, 30's or 40's.

Hope this answers some of your questions!

Warmest regards,

Mark

Mr. Wilson,

I know it was looked into but it was just not possible to make them compatible..... I barely made it through college and wouldn't attempt to give anyone a lesson in Physics or Engineering

The “shocking” part of the unit has been thoroughly tested…. In the Ozark Mountain country it consistently “punched in” at 3 miles on the new frequency and radio system…. I think you will find it more than adequate and better than anything that you have ever used or has ever been on the market.

Warmest regards,

Mark
