Went For A Hunt Tonite

I took my Preacher dog and my Fancy dog out for a hunt tonite and the moon was soo bright I didn't need my light But the hunting sucked because I seen 3 den trees and no coon and I should of known better then to hunt here in Michigan on a full moon nite nothing good ever comes out of it. Guess I'll wait till its so dark it would scare the Devil himself. Gotta love those dark nites with the sky full of stars, just makes a hunt soo much better.

I usually notice the same thing Big John. I have saw coons on a full moon, but usually a full moon makes for a long and bad night.

Full moons are a start of a bad nite

And they never seem to get better. Everytime I hunt on a full moon something always goes wrong and sometimes I get coon sometimes i don't but last nite was unreal and I don't know if I'll ever hunt on a full moon again. Well I probably will just guess I'll know what to expect Uh. But last nite was a total waste.

Went hunting Saturday night , moon was bright.
Dogs treed one quick , but before I could shoot it out , my light quit. Partner shot it out.
Got back to the truck and keys were locked inside. LOL
Next place ( with a borrowed light ) , treed , but couldn't find him. Big oak with pine trees around it. Couldn't shine much of it.
Called it a night.
Can't wait for the leaves and the moon to leave. LOL

I am actually glad I have pneumonia, it is keeping me out of the woods while that full moon is up! John I have the same feelings as you about full moons, but I keep trying to change that bad luck. They can't all be that bad can they? I sure hope not, I remember 10-12 years ago when I was hunting really hard 4-6 nights a week, I don't remember ever caring about the moon, but I think hunting a young dog and an older dog that has been laid up with pups for the better part of a year, my dogs are just getting into good hunting shape. Skinner is coming along real nice I think If I can get a little better and not cough my fool head off, I'll try and get him back out by the end of the week, full moon or no full moon!

Tracy

Better be careful on your Amonia Yea I can't spell it LOL my wife has had broncitis and ashma for about 3 weeks now I think The broncitis will go away but not the ashma so she is on a breather treatment. AND I will probably hunt the full moon again Guess I'm just asking for punishment, lol. But I hate staying home since we can actually drop coon out to young dogs and not worry if the DNR is gonna breathe down our necks, Just kidding. have to have a since of humor with nites like these. ALL I have to say is full moon go away and let us have our hunting season. Get Better soon Tracy.

JackBob sounds like you had a rough nite guess thats what we get for being so stubborn and hunting full moon nites.Keep it safe and have fun.

the moon was bright, but we treed 5 coons and one slick tree. we had a great time, the dogs did have to look deeper than normal. where i hunt on the farms we can drive closer to them. that helps an old man like me. my hunting partner is 79 and it sure helps him.

I could never tell that a full moon made a lick of difference in running or treeing coons on the outside. I do think it makes it a little harder to get them to look at you on a bright night but if they are there, you will find them most of the times.

Boat???

Boat's aren't very useful when climbing a mountain in Dover...

and SS stands for Super Stakes.

Went tonight and was out for a hour

And treed 2 times and couldn't find the coon in the first tree cause it was loaded with leaves and had to snap the dogs up in the second wood and leave due to the farmer asking us to try and keep our dogs out of his woods due to him leasing the ground out to bow hunters.

Jim
You do not have trouble treeing coon on the outside on a full moon night in December? Many years ago an old hunter told me you can catch a coon in the full moon in November but you wont do it in December. I have that to be very true, I see plenty in the moonlight in the summer through November, but come December it is very rare here to tree one on the outside but when January comes they start breeding and then I start seeing them on the outside in the moonlight again.
