How many have ever done this???

After hunting for a couple of years, I finally got a tracking system--it's used, but is in great shape and I'm satisfied with it. Never lost a dog before, but am always nervous turning them out in new/unfamiliar territory. Anyway, last night I put the collars on the dogs, made sure everything was right, and turned 'em loose. Female struck and treed pretty fast, but the pup decided to find his own coon. Got to tree, saw the coon, petted her, and went back to truck. Got to truck, pulled out the tracker and tried to track the pup....nothing at all. I knew he hadn't left the country, but i wasn't picking him up anywhere.

The MAGNET was still in the COLLAR!!!!!!!

Found out the next morning the pup was treed about 350 yards from the female but he had lost his voice and I just couldn't hear him. At least I know he won't leave the tree, but next time I'll take the magnet out.

i have just bought a system. i was trying it out having my husband walk through the woods holding the collar. wanted to make sure i could actually read it before i put it on the dog. i was tracking fine and then lost everything. i went through all the channels, checked all my connections. i was going nuts. caught up with my husband and he was laughing. he had put the magnet back in the collar. he thought it was sooo funny too.

Actually

I never have forgot to take out the magnet, but I have forgot to put the entire collar on him a few times! Try finding that signal; with the collar in the top of the box and the magnet still intact!

We are in Southern,IN. We got some big steep hills. We call 'em goat mountains as kind of a tongue in cheek thing.
Kind of the opposite of when people call you Jackass and really mean it.

MAGNET REMOVER.

Attach a piece of 4 inch cord to the magnet ( epoxy), make a loop. If you forget to remove the magnet it will most likely get jerked out when going through the brush or woods. Ive had magnets like this before and they work. You loose the magnets. But thats better than loosing a dog.

Done that too!

I take the magnet out when I put the collar on the dog. I stick them on the top of the latch on the dog box. I left the magnets in more than once. I haven't had that problem since I started taking them out when I put the collar on. I figure that battery replacement is a lot better than dog replacement.

I always take out the magnet before putting it on the dogs .I also put reflective tape on the magnets.Just in case I drop or missplace them. I just shine the light around until I find IT.I found a magnet last week stuck on my dog lead..........LOL..........CHET

Yep! Done it twice! I got in the habit of taking them off before loading the dogs at the kennel . Now here's the twist.......Ole boy says man you're just using up batteries leaving them on in the box. Well same night cut a new hound he had loose he had to see if he could go it alone. this hound did, not going to say no more about how,but the only way we got back to the truck was to track my hound still in the box!

I got in a hurry once too trying to get tracking collar on my dog.. Well thanks to that my dog died.. NEVER you all just slap the collar on the quickest way you can, I put it on in front of his regular collar, and he got it hung up and he couldn't slip out of it, before I fount him he had choked his self to death..

yeah I forgot the magnet in the collar once, collar was on my fathers young blue female she didn't get struck pulled out the tracker to find her and nothing ... ooops, he wasn't happy lol but thankfully we found her easly.
Also forgot to put the magnet back in my collars once, a guy out running his hounds on coyotes showed up at our place he kept tracking his dog to my place but dog wasn't there, come to find out my collar was same as his and he was tracking my collar.

A couple of guys up the road did this last year. They had about six or seven dogs and they drove around for three or four days before they rounded em up. Thats why I like my Garmin, no magnets. And by the way I done it a couple of times before I got my garmin but both times realized it and called the dogs in before they got too far.
