My buddy Roger and I decided to tree a couple coons tonight, the first 2 drops went as plannned 600 yards and setting under a coon, recast 350 yards and setting under a coon. Drop number 3 didn't go as well. Buzz and Woody went in about 350 yards and were working a cold track when we heard a heck of a ruckus. We started over to them and Buzz came back with his tail between his legs and looking scared to death. After looking him over I found a deep fang mark in one of his hind legs.
About the time we were loading Buzz into the box we heard all the same sounds once again. Then Woody came in with wounds on his back legs worse than Buzz. He had 2 deep puncture wounds and one ugly tear, the tear covered a space about the size of a half dollar. Luckily I have a very good vet, I called her at 11pm got her out of bed and she told me to bring them over. We had to hospitalize them so I will hear something tomorrow. I want to say thanks again to Dr. Amy Chronister, I appreciate everthing you do.


We really need to do something about these Coyotes, they are getting out of hand.

This is the worst time of year around here for coyote attacks on your dog!! Twice in the last 4 years my female has been bitten by coyotes between the last week of march and the first couple weeks of april...

It was weird because the attacks were about 10 minutes apart. I guess it must have been when they got too close to the den.

This is a common problem up here in the areas i hunt. Coondogs get harassed year round by coyotes, but for whatever reason they dont usually attack or make contact until the months of august and early september. Not really sure why. All the injuries always seem to be in the lower back end of dogs and with male dogs they will usually go for the testicles, not really sure why this is either, just know it sucks when it happens.

I got a call from the Vet, thankfully we can pick the dogs up tomorrow.

All of the injuries are in the back end except one.


I went out and am pretty sure I found the den. Does anyone have any suggestions of any kind of "smoke bombs" I can put in the hole and kill em? Of course I will have the 12 ga with me in case they try to escape.

dont no if they still make it but there used to be smoke bombs for moles but i dont no if it would kill them or not

A few years ago I bought something I used for killing woodchucks in their dens but I can't remember what they were and the place I bought them went out of business.

we have had a dog tore up a few times...from this time of year through june/july or so when the females have their pups...one time was pretty bad...


this year they are being VERY bold and VERY territorial and vocal...we got out to of the truck last nite and one started barking AT us! it was within 150yds...

took mine to the dog pen a few nites ago and my buddies dog barked 1 time at me...a whole pack fired up down the pasture...



gotta be careful this time of year...they get very territorial and WILL get into your dog...never had more than 1 get bothered..but a lone dog runs past the wrong yote or pack of yotes and they seem more prone to attack....

last time we had an attack it was this time last year...dog went 100yds into the woods and all heck broke loose...we ran in..heard the yotes running out of there...the dog was fine...a few minor puncture wounds...

i have a 30' USB cable video cam with adjustable led lights on it.
like the kind they look inside your drains with

going to start looking in holes with it hooked to my laptop

if i find pups without moma and they arent too big,,my jackrussell is going to have some fun,,

if bigger then our halfpit/rabbit dog is going have some fun,,lol

i got the usb cable cam off ebay from a company in New Mexico

A needle and suture and crazyglue.Take the same dogs the next day in daytime and get them treeing on a coontail or something. That is if you don't find the den, otherwise do like recommended. Take a 12 guage with turkey load and aim for the ass end . Then sic them to streatch him.Some dogs will not turn to coyote dogs but some will . whatever, they won't turn their ass to a coyote ever again.

i aint never had any trouble with coyotes bothering my dogs for some reason. my dog has ran right thru a pack of em and all they did was howel and carry on, my dog never paid them no mind. i was trying to find a coon in a hemlock one night and went to squalling for all i was worth, in a few mintues i heard something rustling in the leaves up the hill from me, and i got to looking and saw a couple of coyotes, i picked up a rock and chunked it at em lol they couldnt get out of there quick enough. and i had one try to stalk me one night, he was all hunkerd down crawling like he was going to get me for dinner, well i picked up another rock and throwed it at him and he took off for the boarder.lol

by crackie we are more than blessed with rocks around here, when you plow all your doing is plowing up rocks. i was throwing rocks out of the yard one day and picked up a tomahawk lol,. it looks like its yanked a few knots on some heads to.lol
