Around here you find them this time of year in swamps with sandy bottoms or creeks in log jams they will be under dead leaves on the bottom.

Ivory soap works good here also. And cheap hot dogs soaked in cherry kool-aid.

Cut them in chunks and use kool-aid with sugar in it and and enough water to make it like syrup, put in zip lock bag and soak a day or two in frige . They will get a lil tuff this way and stay on hook better.

Store bought is what i use and to tell you the truth i don't know what the bubbles do to make the fish like it so much but down this way when nothing else works to get the catfish to bite the ivory soap will work every time.

we use hotdogs soaked in worcestershire sauce and garlic for channel cats. cut bait works good for blues and bigger channel cats. shad and bream are pretty good. if you have skipjack in your area i hear thats the best for those big big blues. live bullheads work good for flatheads. shrimp and chicken liver are good options as well for channel cats

Best springtime bait I have ever found for the rivers around here is to take a redhorse sucker and filet it out and chunk the filet up into peices about like a bite size candy bar. Works great up and until the spawn. When they come off the nest they don't like it as well. In lakes do the same thing but with shad.

ZOTE soap work like ivory soap......iuse a good stout piece of fishing line tied in a circle,,,place it on the soap 3/4 inch and pull it thru,,keep cuttin till you get a 3/4 x 3/4 chunk.......when buying the Zote..squeeze that soap if its a lil soft,,,,buy it. if hard.it will crumble......

now days i fish with rod and real,,,,,i use danny kings dip bait, cheese, blood or garlic flavor.,,,#4 treble hook........or fishing in the potomac,,,,,,good ole earth worms.......

Who would ever even try using soap for bait? That is pretty neat and it smells better than rotten chicken liver or stink bait thanks for the tip

Deer liver works pretty good. It stays on the hook 100 times better than chicken livers. You have to freeze some up during deer season.
