401 K?

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Delta Airlines one year ago,you would have $49.00 today! If you purchased $1,000 of shares in AIG, you would have $33.00. If you purchased $1,000 of shares in Lehman Brothers, you would have $0.00 today.
But, if you purchased $1,000 worth of beer, drank all the beer, turned in the aluminum cans for recycling, you would have $214.00.
Therefore the best current investment plan is to drink heavily & recycle.
It is called the 401-Keg Plan

Joe, I received this in an email forward from one of my right wing propagandist friends this morning. Do you guys just believe anything that comes out of the right wing propaganda machine? One year ago Delta was trading at $9.96 per share. Today it is trading at $7.02. Which means that if you bought $996 of shares one year ago, today you would have around $704. Which means your figures are off by a factor of 14.
One year ago AIG was trading at $41.64, today it is at $18.35. Which means that if you bought $1000 of AIG shares one year ago, today you would have around $440 something [feel free to get a calculator out, I just did that one in my head- rough numbers].
One year ago Lehman was trading around 7 cents per share, today it is trading around 4 cents. Which means if you bought 1000$ of stock one year ago, today it would be worth around 570$ or so. Which means you are dead wrong with all of your information. DEAD WRONG WITH ALL OF YOUR INFORMATION. Why do you guys have to lie like this? Are you not a respected member of this coonhunting community? Does your word mean nothing? And if you just innocently passed this on assuming that it was correct, how do you feel about where ever it is that you gather your information? Would you buy a hound from someone who was this provably wrong?

Who cares? Just pop a top and go with the flow! You can't do anything to change the past and evidently the future.

We Americans are blessed in so many ways.

Truly....

Good grief.... There is this new thing called humor..... You know....laugh at things.

I too recieved this in email, but it was quite some time ago. I am indeed guilty of not checking the "facts"...but I didn't see the necessity of checking them because I thought it was FUNNY.

The way I see it, I am just a fat, old, underpaid, overtaxed, coonhunter. There is nothing I can do to improve the economy, nothing I can do to influence the stock market, I can no longer afford to speculate on the commodity market. I am indeed one of the endangered white, middle class Americans. I have nothing left to lose except my sense of humor, and now you are trying to take that away from me too.....

Ya know....I just don't understand....I don't like being labeled a "right wing propagandist" at all. In fact, I'm probably one of the most "middle road" person you will ever meet. I refuse to align myself with any particular party. I actually abhor the current two party system and feel that it is responsible for our currently crippled government.

Did you even read your own signature? "patriotism is supporting your country all of the time and your government when it deserves it"

Let me ask you this....what has our government as a whole...not just the left, not just the right...not just the legislative branch, nor the executive branch done anything that would warrant me "supporting" them.

They have for many years been over spending, with a clear disregard to how it affects the very citizens that they are elected to represent. There is a apparent lack of leadership across the board. Each party seems to be interested only in their own agenda and seem to be blind to the cause and effect of the political war they are waging....and the middle class American is now the "new" political refugee......

I don't care if you agree with me, I don't care if you don't see the humor in my original post.....but I am a proud american that is currently ashamed of MY government.

I think it is truly sad when I see someone who is so caught up in their own stance on something that they can not appreciate a parody or humor.

Gosh if we were all like that, Jay Leno would be out of a job and seen as a traitor.

I can appreciate the humor of it, but I can also see the propaganda in it, and as much as it saddens you that I don't see only the humor, it saddens me that you don't see the propaganda. We have propaganda mills churning out cut and paste emails and items for posting in chat rooms that are doing an amazing job in shaping how we all think. Certain positions are repeated so often that they become seen as the TRUTH. As an example we often see people saying about our current state of affairs "well, there is nothing I/we can do about it", which is completely untrue, but has been repeated so often that it is seen as true. We might not be able to single handedly change things, and the change we strive for may not happen until much later than we take the actions to initiate that change, but we all can make a difference. And one of the ways that the propagandists work is to get us to all make a difference by repeating falsehoods, lies, half truths, mistruths etc.
Like you Joe, I too am currently ashamed of my government regarding many issues. I just feel that we will be better served to have grown up conversations/discourse as much as possible. Not to be a big sour puss, but it seems right now we are up a river without a boat, and it is time for a serious discussion.

Sorry dude...I'm not just drinking tainted Kool-Aid here.

I don't for one second believe that the majority of Americans (at least the ones that I know) trust that their elected representatives have the best interest of their constituents in mind. Shoot, most of them don't have a clue what it is like to live in America today, on a middle class budget with a mortgage and a car payment.

Most of them don't even know what it is like to hold a "real" job. This didn't start over night. Harry Truman had no idea what a telephone dial tone was after he served his term as president. He had gone so long as an "executive" that he hadn't even had to dial the phone for his calls..... How can someone that doesn't have a clear line of sight into the everyday happenings of the main stream American lead us? This won't change as long as we are forced to choose between one life long politician or another...

The current administration campaigned on "hope and change"....well I'm here to tell you that the types of change that we all believed to be being promised take one important ingredient...that of LEADERSHIP. Truman may not have known what a dial tone is...but he knew about leadership..... "THE BUCK STOPS HERE". We need politicians that are willing to dust off the Truman desk plaque and are not afraid of the position. I would much rather have a leader that was willing to be unpopular in order to affect positive change that be paralyzed in the fear that he is not going to be re-elected.

I'm not as gullible as you may think I am.

"memes"-ideas that pass along in a society that may or may not have truth but become ingrained as truth.

This is as bad a problem among liberals as it it with conservatives. Generalizations about what 'they' do or 'they' think. The whole topic of whether internet and email jokes like this one are propaganda or not is debatable but just like urban myths these things get their own sort of life and mutate into other versions. I think they reflect the times in terms of what we worry about or what issues are the big deal of the day and for sure this bottoming out economy has us all tuned in at some level no matter what we believe is the answer politically. I think there are things we can do to make conditions better but the variables are a bit like what farmers face every planting season....soil is prepped but to wet or to dry, summer to hot or to cold, harvest is on time or delayed by weather or equipment. The economy is not a lot different but is more complicated. The right leadership sets up the factors we do have control of and we hope and pray that the other conditions get things going. Reminds me a lot of what I read in Ecclesiastes about what comes from a life of working hard and what happens to your life work net gain when it is left to the next guy.....who may or may not keep it going. So it goes from one president and gov't to the next. Pee it away or make it work, right now it is going down. Hope Oba Wan Kanoba can help but if not someone else can live at 1600 Penn. Ave just as easy as the Obamas.

out of touch......you dang right they are Joe! they have no clue.........either party.

our only hope lies in the tea party.

I have to agree with you on them looking within on what to cut. What if our elected officials earned what the voters decided they were worth? You get to vote for your candidate but you also get to choose which income bracket they are in. So a newly elected official gets a break and earns $50K but if he or she after 2 or four years gets reelected you could take them up or down on the scale. Plus no golden parachute retirement plan, you retire with Social Security or go back to the private sector and you pick up where you left off or you kept your 401K going like those who use them do. If you helped the country prosper you would do well. Not only that but all elected officials should have to use the same medical insurance as folks would have to choose from back in their home districts. Would that keep out some of the parasites? I think it would. It might also give some people of honor and integrity a chance to run.

Sounds like a good "drop in the bucket" kind of a start for The Elected. I think there are 435+100+ 2 (P and VP) elected. In Jan 2009 there were 2,748,978 Federal Employees not counting any agencies in the Security ( CIA etc) business. There were only 1.9 million Federal employees not counting the military and Poastal workers. Do we really need 1.9 million people looking over our shoulders. That's 40,000 Feds per State and that does not count State Employees doing about the same things on the state level.

Joke

Pretty sad that someone can take a joke and turn it political.

Usually, it the other way around. The politicians are the joke.

If Mitch McConnell and Harry Reid are the only two passengers on a plane, and you have to try to save one person, who would you save?

Answer : It's simple common sense. You save the pilot!!!

If there were only two passengers and I had to save someone then I'd have to be the pilot. Now if I was the pilot and there was only one parachute , I'd give it to Harry and let him take his chances. Then I'd pull up and save Mitch.

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18-year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971... Before computers, before e-mail, before cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land... All because of public pressure. I'm asking each addressee to forward this email to a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask each of those to do likewise. In three days, most people in the United States of America will have the message.

This is one idea that really should be passed around. Congressional Reform Act of 2011
1. Term Limits. 12 years only, one of the possible options below: A. Two Six-year Senate terms B. Six Two-year House terms C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

2. No Tenure / No Pension. A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

3. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social Security. all funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the rest of the American people.

4. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

5. Congress will no longer vote themselves pay raises. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI (consumer price index) or 3%.

6. Congress loses their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the rest of the American people.

7. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

8. All contracts with past and present Congressmen are void effective 1/1/2012. The American people did not make this contract with Congressmen. Congressmen made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and go back to work.

Maybe it is time We take back our country.

Now this is "change I can live with"

almost better than beer cans

if you would have bought gold one year ago you would have bought it at $1100.00. today it is worth $1744.

if you would have bought $1000 worth of apple shares you would now have $1496.

there are a few things that went up this year. unfortunitly it is not my pay check

When there is two there is a 50% choice. When there are three there is a 33% choice. When there are two riding in a car and a smell happens there is 100% certainty who did it. If three are riding you can never be certain.

Common sense this one: How many winches have you seen on a rear bumper? Why would anyone want to pull themselves farther out in a bog hole?

I guess that is why I am Conservative. Yet the Progressives deride me for wanting to "go backwards" yet they keep pulling us deeper into the bog.
