DC 40

Well, all I can say is WOW!! Ya talk about being dissapointed !!
Fully charged and ready to go, turned on the collar and it took forever to get signal from satelite before I loaded the young hound in the box. When I used the DC 30, I never lost satelite signal on the collar going from the house to a hunting spot. Well, we got the hound out and had to wait 5 or so mintues for the collar to find the satelite. OK, I thought! Ready to turn him loose. Went huntin and the first time I lost him was at 47 yards. I think to myself, HMMM! Not liking this to well right from the get go. Hound went in and struck and the whole time I kept losing signal and he was getting close to a road so Me and my buddy went in and rounded him up. Collar started working again on the second drop but quit right off the bat. Lost signal, didn't have no track of him on map screen but the ? mark on the screen was moving up the creek where he was opening on a track where normally when ya loose the signal the ? mark stays the same place on the screen where you last lost the signal. OK, I thought to myself, go round him up again and remove and re add the collar and go from there. Collar was on ID # 47 so I removed it and changed it to ID # 10. Great, collar got satelite signal quick and I'm ready to try again. Dropped this young hound of at house and loaded up another pup. Well, better but not much, kept loosing signal but pup fell treed on a maple den. Went to another spot and cut him in a cornfield along a gaswell drive. Had a good signal until 178 yards and lost him. Bad thing was that he was heading right for a road so we jump in the truck and go back towards the road, cars going back and forth both ways and at the road we pick him up and he's 47 yards away across the road and lost him again and the next thing ya know he loads up on a tree and blows the top out of it. Relief I thought to myself because when this pup trees he's there till ya get to him. We go in and he has a huge coon up a 6 inch round tree looking at us as we walk in. Well guys!! The moral of this story is to let ya know before ya put one of these on your top hound to beware, these problems are still there with garmin and for the $ they cost I believe ya shound not have to go thru these deals right off the get go. This was the first time the unit was used and my plans where to use it at AO on Fri. nite. This one is going back Monday and I wonder how it will go down because I got it next day aired to me just for this weekend to hunt!! Little depressed and a bit P!!! O!! Where is my DC 30 when I need it!! Just venting a little is all! Garmin needs to get it right and recheck these units out before they are shipped out!! JMO! Anyone else using one yet and if so, how's it working for ya!

I was having problems with my unit itself last nite even though I left it on it had no idea where I was too it was still back at the drop before. Then at the last drop the map wouldn't turn at all as I moved in order to know where I was at I had to use my compass to know the direction compared to what it was showing north.
Anybody know what the heck I was doin wrong?

Autumn

I left ya a post on the vendors classifieds! WARNING TO ALL!!!!!! Don't turn your top hounds loose with the new DC 40 until you check it out real well on a less valuable hound!! Garmin doesn't have it right again right from the get go. Never had these problems with the DC 30!! Here we go again!! Come on GARMIN!! Let's get it right and save people ( your customers )and possibly someones hound the headaches of having to field test these units for ya only to find out the problems are still there right out of the box!! Once again, Garmin is having there problems and sending there headaches to all of us!! What a joke!! If ya can tell, I'm still a bit P!!!!!!!!!

Danny

I guess I shouldn't have posted on the DC 40 post, b/c as of yet all i'm using is the DC-30 my DC-40 hasn't come yet... Last few nites i've had my brother on the Garmin while I hunt the way I always do. So I dunno if its my unit, the collar or me.
I don't care my Wildlife/Tracker are paid for and I will continue to use it as well b/c i'm not going to risk losing my dogs b/c of it.

Used mine for the first time today. Took a long time to find the collar but once it did seemed to work ok. I think it lost signal a little more often and didn't quite have the range my dc 30 does but seemed close. I'll have to test it some more to really tell.
