My father was one of the founders of the Shrine hunt. I believe this will be the 27th or 28th year it has been held. Some years over 20,000 was donated from this hunt and although I dont have an official number I believe it would be safe to say that it is in the neighborhood of 500,000 thousand total that has been donated. At one time this hunt would put 120 to 140 dogs in the woods each night. There was a beauty pageant for the Shrine Hunt Queen that raised thousands. Also there was live entertainment on the grounds each night. All the old timers that were so instrumental in making this hunt a success are mostly deceased. Support for the hunt waned and we have been trying to rebuild it the last few years. This year the hunt will be held at Worth Mountain a beautiful facility located in western York county. This will be a great venue and the intention is to keep it there for many years.
Over the last couple of years there has been talk of some of the Shrine Hospitals closing due to lack of funds. Although singularly none of us could make a very big splash, together WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. I am asking everyone to please come out and support this event in some way. Whatever you can do is great, donation or hunt, whatever. We just really want to see the event back on track.
I'm sure if you check around everyone of us knows someone who has been helped by one of the Shrine hospitals please get your heart in the right place and help us help a child and make this hunt the prestigeous event it used to be. Thank You so much for helping, Ray
