score this...

my dog strikes 1st and trees 1st and nothing else comes in . We get in there and there is a dead coon thrown over the first branch. The judge says he is not plusing a dead coon like that so he deletes it and says he caught it on the ground.

I was not the guide nor had anything to do with the dead coon. Nor have i seen a rule that says you are supposed to not plus that coon. Some how the rest of the cast went with the judge and that costed me a 1st place win on my nitech male.

Sounds like you may have caught a "bad" break but the judge scored it the only way it could have been scored.

was the coon fresh..or had it been dead for awhile..I know sometimes with pups I hang them up so I can get the pups put of the woods. I have had them tree on these coons a week later when i go back in there and hunt.

If it was fresh caught that nite, and detirmined that it was caught on ground,,Plus strike points only//If it was a old coon killed by someone else ..delete like it was done.

There is no way you can plus a dead coon as far as tree points go. It's not a dogs job to kill the coon, its job is to tree it. A coon doesn't just die and hang itself up in a tree a little common sense goes far sometimes. Sounds pretty suspicious to me any way you look at it.

i doubt the dog caught the coon killed it then the coon magically ran up the tree people run drags for pups or when they shoot one out it hangs so if your huntin right behind him how can you fault the dog for that i can see if the coon barely has any hide or hair left i can see y you guys always think you get cheated

you are correct, nowhere in the rule book does it say that you can not plus a dead coon in a tree. but in the same breath no where does it say that an old dead oppossum is a deleated scenerio either. BUT ukc has ruled that you can not scratch a ntch or a grand for an oppossum that was dead when your dog found it ( your dog didnt kill it ) . just you cant plus a dog that has treed a caged coon either .... mike

Yep, they couldn't hunt in my woods. My pup will still bawl at a dead one part of the time but he doesn't like the results he gets out of it. I think he will get the message soon. LOL

Ok you minus the strike points becouse it left the track. Now come on it wasn't tracking a dead one. Then you can't plus the tree becouse it was never struck in on that track. LOL

I think the judge gave you a break, should have been minus both ways,or do you figure he tracked that dead coon to that tree. And for all the guys that are always askin about a cold nose dog, there ya go.

THIS IS COMMON SENCE

UKC WROTE ABOUT THIS NO SCORE IF THE TREE WAS NOT A TREE WHERE A COON COULD BE HIDEING THE TREE SHOULD HAVE BEEN MINUSED ALSO .IN A NITE HUNT THERE ARE HONOR RULES ON THE BACK OF THE SCORE CARD TO GO ON .TO USE THESE IT TAKES SOME COMMON SENCE A DEAD COON DONT LAY A TRACK IF SOMEONE IS NOT DRAGING IT. IF YOU PUT A RULE ON THE BACK OF THE SCORE CARD TO TAKE CARE OF EVERY THING THAT TOOK PLACE IN A HUNT THE CARD WOULD HAVE TO BE BIG AS A SHEET OF PLYWOOD. COMMON SENCE AND THE CLUB PICKING GOOD JUDGES WILL GET YOU ALONG WAYS IN THIS SPORT.

Well cry me a river I say you draw a line through it and roll on. I DONT AGREE WITH MINUSING the tree because most all dogs can wind a dead coon hanging up but I do agree with the fact David said about us as hunters just having common since about hunting.Let the best dog win. I cant even use some rules that get some scrached like blowing a squaller at a tree thats being scored ;but a dogs trailing if that dog beats you by treing coons and the only way you can win is scratch him thin .find something else to do with youre time.
