Walkers - Rear Dewclaws

I've been trying to do a little reserch and narrow down where rear dewclaws is coming from in some of the Walkers we have out here in the west... There seemed to be two seperate lines that had them... But I just found out there is ONE dog they do have in common. Wagers' Stylish Lipper. In fact they are pretty heavy bred on him.

How common is rear dewclaws back east? What lines does it show up in most? What big named dogs have/had them?

I dont really like them, but its one of those things that pretty easy to fix at birth.

Not only Wager's Stylish Lipper, but Schmershal's Stylish Queen (They were littermates) Both were out of Stylish Banjo and a little female named Wick's Ozark Missy.

Since I can find no evidence of Banjo dogs carrying the trait, or passing it on... All roads point to Missy!

Joe, I hate to disagree BUT. Wager's Stylish Lipper and Stylish Queen were not littermates. Wager's Stylish Lipper was out of Stylish Queen X House’s Lipper, Stylish Lipper was a littermate to Chirpie, Stylish Clover’s momma.

Dang it.....

I've done that before.....

I meant to say that Chirpee was a litter mate to Stylish Lipper...

If I would engage my brain clutch before I start typing some time....

Bottom line is the Stylish Queen link is the link...

Redwood Hounds, I think if you look hard at Stylish Queen, you'll find your answer. I personally don't know of to many studs that have rear dew claws, the only one advertised currently is Witchdoctor.

I'm no expert at all but I've bred, hunted and studied heavy blooded Banjo dogs for over 30 years, never knew of any that had dew claws.

Not been nationally advertised, but I know of a real "stud" dog that has em...

Stylish Tack throws them some and he is off Stylish Lipper. It's a cheap and easy fix when they are puppies. No big deal just take care of them. Littermate to my female had them and mine didn't. They had them clipped as a puppy and if noone told you there would noone ever know.

I never said I have a problem with them. I don't really like the looks of them, and would rather just have them taken off as pups. In some of the places we hunt, its just something to get torn off. The breed standard calls for them to be removed.

I was just wondering where it might be coming from, and how common it really is.

I have two females here, littermates, only one has them. Their sire had them, and about 75% of the litter did. I bred one of the sisters (the one without), and she didn't have any pups with them.

Another 'line' of walkers out here has them show up frequently. Only link in their pedigrees are Stylish Lipper.

I am going to be breeding a non dewclawed son of my non dewclawed female, to a dewclawed female out of the other line. I'm figuring I'm gonna see some dews in the bunch.

Dewclaws

Does any breed allow dewclaws on the bench?

I believe they all allow them, it's not a disqualification. Some standards say they should be removed - It's just one of those things they dock points for.

Walk With Wick II says it comes from the old original Wick's Stylish Banjo, the Wick's stylish thunder dog had rear dewclaws and Wick says it was the best dog he ever followed behind and it was out of old banjo. He says in his book that alot of them dogs that had that trait turned out to be nice one's.

Rap rubberband arround them and bingo they will fall off in a few days. This works no matter the age of the dog.

It's no shame in it, these heavy bred pups have a little cur in them. Why do you think some are silent on track, shorter ear, little more grit, and shorter legs. The cur only makes them better! LOL!!
