Casterating a male ???

I have a real nice male that is always trying to ride dogs in the hauling box "MALE or FEMALE" . He's a super nice male and doesn't bother them while there hunting or at the tree. Would haveing this dog casterated help settle him down from bothering the other dogs. If anyone has had this trouble before let me know what you did to stop it. If ya have any suggestions please post them. Thanks in advance.

no but once castrated other males will be riding him have seen this a few times where males would try to mount a castrated dog.when a dog attempts to ride another dog of the same sex it is to dominate the other dog i have seen females like this that is why i said no to would castrating him make him stop it a dominance thing

Thats what I did last night to him put that baby on 7 as soon as he started to mount the other dog his head about came thru the top of the box. I thought about sticking him in a kennel with another male or female and working on him with the shocker. I'm gonna call my Vet tomorrow and see what she thinks about it.

I'm getting

my male drawn then castrated i feel it will stop the tuff guy atitude and improve his hunting aswell. I had a bear dog a few years ago he was real aggresive with other males we had his balls cut off and man with in a couple months he was a totally different dog... With the tecnoligy we have today with semen storage and AI i'm suprised more people dont get there males fixed.

I've heard that too it will do nothing but help him. Eliminates the chance of testicular cancer to. He's a hard hunting dog that will hang with the best of them. He's only 2 so hate to do that to him but he's gonna ride the wrong one one of these night and its gonna be a UFC Championship in the box.

it's possible.........

that he could grow out of it, but he might not......

the humping is a show of dominance, he is trying to let everybody know he is #1..... the real trouble will occur when he humps a sure enough alfa (male or female)......

if his desire to be #1 is from elevated testosterone the de-balling should stop it, if it is not testosterone it won't or may not stop it......

Steve your post brings back .........

old memories from years past....

(the names have been changed to protect the innocent)
there was a fella (I take the 5th).... who had a walker dog named muddy water, that humped all the time, I mean ALL the time.... ever now & then he humped air while he was treeing......

1 night everybody was unloading their dogs and muddy water went to hump'n my uncle's leg, it pi$$ed me .... um, err, I mean, the owner.... off so bad he was going kick mud in the rear end.....

well, about the time he went to kick, he slipped and my foot went between mud's legs and kicked him right square in the balls, 'ole mud leat out an ear peircing squall & scooted around on his rear 4 bout 10 minutes, then he eased on off in the woods....

he never humped another dog after that (or anything else for that matter)... Don't go out & kick ur dog in the balls, but it sure changed mud's attitude..... from that night on everybody called the poor dog 'ole nut cake....

if anybody from around here remembers the dog I had (15/20 yr ago) called nut cake, now u know the rest of the story.....

If he's only trying to hump other dogs while in the box then don't put another dog in with him. Problem fixed.

Through him in there with an older female that don't put up with BS. Have seen it several times, them young males think their tough till they try that crap on an old female. We usually put our young dudes in with Dawn, she makes 'em behave right quick......

You are right a BOSSY dominant female will often put a male in his place...
Hope Bob doesn't see this... sounds like ME in this household! LOL...
Seriously.. the dog needs to understand who is dominant. It is usually not just a hormone thing. Plenty of females "hump" everything they can... and they need to be taught not to do it....

Good luck, HappyHUnting Heather

Sorry steve didnt mean to upset you. I do not know everything about training hounds, learn something new all the time, BUT I do know that shocking a dog while another dog and him are confined in a compartment of a dog box is probably one of the stupidist things that can be done with a shock box.
