After the aflotoxin issue, something changed about their feed.......not only did it it smell differently, I had 3 dogs come down with food allergies to it all at the same time as well as all the rest of the dogs started having loose stools.....all those dogs had been eating Diamond for years without any problems to all of a sudden at the same time have problems with it.

I have a few threads already posted on here about it.

I seen on various other forums around the same time that others were also having issues with Diamond as well.........but on the same token, their were others who had no issues at all.

After running feed trials for about 9/10 weeks on each Natural formula, I cold switched to SportMix and immediately saw a difference an improvement.

Been on SportMix since then and probably will keep it until something like what happened with the Diamond feed happens to them.

I just switched to Diamond Extreme Athlete. The dogs seem to like it just fine and no loose stool even during the switch so I'm a happy camper. My Brindle Plott has "issues" with changing her food but this time she did just fine so I'm staying with it.

I live in NE Wisconsin and I get it at the local feed store. They carry it all the time and I pay $30 for a 40# bag.

I have fed about everything under the sun, the past yaer or so, and have come to the conclusion that ... the ingriedient lists can say whatever they want, its more to do with the specific formula, how the blend is formulated. Ive fed feeds with garbage ingridients that the dogs held up good on and ate it good, no problems. Then ive fed high end products with the best of this and that, but the dogs didnt hold up like i thought they should. Iam currently feeding showtime with excellent results, but cant get it easily. I sell sportmix, pro-pac and some diamond and really aint crazy about how those products perform for my hounds, but others do just fine on them???

So far so good on my two Plotts. The DEA is formulated to be fed to puppies thru adulthood. My 9 week old pup dives into her bowl and so does the 2 1/2 yr old.

I like the fact i can feed it to both dogs. I hate to buy puppy food and adult food.

I have fed diamond for years. (the green bag with yellow stripes 26/18 I believe).....I have never fed anything that compared.

Now two things I see;

1) The other types of diamond I have tried I did not like the results.

2) Occasionally I get a bag, if my supplier runs out and I have to go to the feed store or TSC, that seem to have set to long or it may just be the tail end of a milling. The kernals will be a lighter color and the dogs stools will be looser. I rarely see this but have a few times over the years.

I have seen this fatten dogs that were on purina, black gold and other brands that would not put on weight. I like it and will continue feeding it.

I feed diamond High Energy 24/20 and the dogs look great. I'm from n.w. Ohio. I buy it at Tractor Supply and it ranges in price from 19.99 to 22.99 a bag. Don't quite understand why they flucuate the price so much, but either way its still a competive price for what your getting. Remeber you almost always get what you pay for!

My dad has fed diamond (green bag with yellow stripes) for as long as I can remember and never had a problem. feeds it to all dogs from puppy to senior and they all look great! no loose stool and nice shiney coats. I personaly wouldn't put anything else in my dogs bowl. won some black gold at a show one time and that ended up in a coon feeder bucket for training pups.

I feed my hounds the Diamond Naturals Extreme Athlete. It is 27.99 before tax for a 40# bag. I get it at the feed store about 2miles from my house. I am feeding 4 grown hounds, my APBT and i was feeding it to my pups but i had to switch them to a puppy food.

I feed my grown hounds 3 cups with a dog food cup and they do good not to fat and not skinny.

I have gotten 2 recalled dog foods in the last 2 years that almost was the end of my dogs, and had a huge vet bill, and thank god one of the dog food companies paid the bill.

I love the Diamond Naturals and wouldn't switch to anything else. It also has NO-CORN, NO-BY-PRODUCTS AND NO-SOY.

Just curious why you switched the pups to a puppy food?

have fed diamond since it became available, the green bag 26-18, also the black bag if really hunting a dog hard- don't do that these days.... have always have had excellent results, have tried many other brands too as means of comparison including proplan, some of the exotic stuff too, but the diamond has worked best for us in every way... for the $$$$ has been great feed....

dog food

HEY DOUG,
Where do you buy the River Run?
I heard about it some years back. Clifford Sowell from Lancaster
told me he was ashamed to say how little he fed and his dogs looked fine and slick.

Thanks,
Mark

We have been feeding the Diamond Naturals Lamb & Rice (23/14) and also the Chicken & Rice (26/16) for the better part of 3 years now. We have tried a few other brands to experiment and we have always came back to these two formulas. I was also impressed with the Extreme Athlete (30/25) but it was a little too pricey for us to afford...We raised two litters of pups plus a few other young hounds on Diamond Naturals Large Breed Puppy Lamb & Rice (27/15) and have had excellent results, won't feed a pup anything else.

I wasn't pleased with any of the other Diamond feeds except for their Hi-Energy formula (24/20), we sometimes feed that in addition to the Chicken & Rice during the really cold months (we feed the Lamb & Rice in the summer and the Chicken & Rice in the winter).

As I mentioned, the dogs did not do well on the other formulas and they crapped all the time. Ran hot while hunting and didn't have a shiny, lusterous coat.

We have easy access to the Diamond Naturals and it is relatively cheap for the quality that you get. Our dogs have always looked and performed really well on the Naturals, that is the main reason that we have stuck with it. I have come to the point that I will not feed something that has a lot of corn in it; or any corn in it at all. Same goes for soy and wheat. When looking for a good dogfood, I look for lots of meat (including fat and organs) in the beginning of the ingredients list. You can't hardly find a dry dogfood that doesn't have grain in it, so I go for the ones with rice or barley, it's not great but it's better than corn, wheat and soy. Omega's 3 & 6, added vitamins (like E, B12, B6, A, calcium, selenium, chondroitin & glucosamine) oatmeal, folic acid, and chicory root (fiber source) are all added pluses. Also, stay away from dogfood that has BHT and BHA, they are nasty preservatives.

We are currently feeding 7 full-grown hounds, 2 hound pups (one 7 months old and one 7 weeks old) and one full grown Rottweiler. I just feed them the amount according to the back of the bag when we're not hunting real hard and then I up it by a cup or so when we are or when it is cold out. They are all fit and slick and have a solid stool once a day, sometimes less (better for me ).

Here are the current prices on the Diamond Naturals at our local feed & farm store (it is an Agland Co-op). We go through one 40# bag about every 7 days.

Lamb & Rice - 40# bag/$24.99
Chicken & Rice - 40# bag/$22.99
Large Breed Puppy - 40# bag/$26.99
Extreme Athlete - 40# bag/$32.99
Hi-Energy - 50# bag/$18.99

Johnny, I hope I have answered some of your questions...

Fed Diamond Premium Adult ("green diamond") for many, many years. Never had a problem.

Never found any feed better. Dogs can hunt all night and not run out of gas.

I like it.

Ive fed every thing from beagles to coondogs and foxdogs diamond. Its a real nice feed. Most of the time I feed diamond hi pro 24/20 its anywhere from 21-23.50 a bag. I also feed extreme athlete to my foxdogs when I running them very often. Ive never fed a feed that could keep my fox dogs as healthy as extreme athlete. These dogs run 7-10 hrs straight as hard as they can possibly go. When yo go to some field trails they run 5 hrs for 3 days wait a day and run 5 more hours. This can really take its toll on a dog. Diamond is about all I feed them. I wish the fiber content was a little lower around 2 % but beggers cant be chosers. I like to keep the fiber content low because it increases digestability. But over all diamond is a good feed. I also feed Pride 24/20 and 26/18 to my coondogs its also a good feed.
