Alright everybody here we go. All of you out there have coonhunted with that one hound, that one special one that could tree a coon in the mall parking lot. Maybe it was owned by somebody else or maybe the one that got you hooked on this crazy sport. Let's hear it!
For me there are several. Tip's Kentucky Jack, an English hound that was cold nosed and accurate.
Backley's Crazzy Kate, a Walker female that is a pleasure to follow any night. When she trees, get your gun. She's super accurate, and an all night 120bpm tree dog.
A Redbone male that handed me my hat at a state hunt one night. I don't remember his name, but he sure put on a show.
A Walker female named Thunder that did the same thing. She was a pleasure to watch.
Come on, you got some too. Let's hear it.

A male off Nailor that was by far the loudest dog I have ever heard by the name of GrNtCh Nocturnal Dutch. My good friend Frank McLauren owned him down in South Alabama. Coondog anywhere and everywhere you turned him loose.

a GrNtCh Blue English gyp that a guy that Timothy Ball had with him from OK, had one night he came down and hunted with us. She put it all over Gold on 2 dumps.

GrNtCh Treeslammin' Blue Hillbilly owned by Jeff Teauge and Wayne Risner, raw power and a freakish treedog.

The best I ever saw go was owned by a good friend of mine who lived on the Alabama side of West Point Lake. He was a walker male off Spring Creek Rock. A sure enough coondog night after night. Fast on both ends but consistency is what put him above the rest. Its been many years and they are always better in our memories but I honestly do not remember a drop that he did not get treed and he was as accurate as they come.

As for one that had my name on its collar it would be a little blue female off Dark Blue Delta Dash. I've owned some that were a little more consistent but she was action packed; super fast track driver that moved every track like it was fast game and a tree dog second to none.

Ntch Cedar Creek Blazer. I owned him for the last three years of his life. He was Kansas Dancer bred, He was loud, fast and had the meat most of the time. Wish I would have bought him when he was young. I miss him

Jerry Winn`s Lumber dog,treed coons with dogs causing all kinds of chaos goin` on.
He treed 5 coon in an hour, like a good squirrel dog!
The leaves were off, I saw every coon!

a gyp my cousin used to own , don't know her full name , but she was a grandnite , and her name was bugs she'll be bout 4 -4 1/2 years old now , wish he would have never gotten rid of her . the first nite we hunted her the dogs struck , 2 got treed but she was still runnin , ahined the tree nothin there , bout that time she gets treed , walk in there and she has 2 coons , best dog ive ever been with .

For me it was Yadkin River Champ. I’ve hunted with hundreds of dogs and some of them were really good hounds but Champ was the best I ever seen. Champ was a go hunting get struck dog with a very good nose that could drive a track. He was wide-open on track and still caught many coon on the ground because he had amazing speed. He was a one bark tree-dog with a very loud mouth that treed as hard as any dog. Champ didn’t have a mean hair on him at any time. After hunting with a few World Champions, many Grand Nite Champions and Nite Champions. Champ (an un-titled dog) showed me what a real powerhouse was. He was truly the greatest hound that I have ever hunted with. I hunted with Champ on several different occasions and he was the same dog every night.

Some of the better dogs I've seen go in recent were the Yadkin River dogs of Pete Barbers. I have to include Son's rock river cord. The dog that started me coon huntin was Murry's Mighty Moe out of Guills screaming eagle.

Lewis, you sure got me to thinking. Alot of good dogs come to mind. GR CH Currens Honey Bee, Walker female. Owned by Jake Currens was tough. GR NITE CH Kentucky Jaming Bud and NITE CH Tree Picking Kate, English. Coffman's Blackwater Stanley, Plott. Probably the best dog I have ever hunted with was NITE CH Hellards Blue Buck, Bluetick.

probably the best ive seen go was gibsons sunset luke and lightfoot frosty. both were very impressive...in realy bad weather.

the best ever hunted with was a 45 pound bluetick female grade dog. she could tree and produce coon all night long. She was a still mouth type of dog and one could always count on have meat to bring home i wanted. one thing with her though she was shy what ever she went through before she was handed down to me made her shy. What i went through just to convince her she was safe with me that I just wanted to be her friend and hunting companion she one day realized that with me it was alright. from then on one couldn't convince her that her dedication to me and hunting was wrong becaused you couldn't force that dog to go to the woods with out me. but one day god chose that faith and now she rest peacefully in the hands of god. i recieve jr's blue june as a gift at 2.5 years of age and she went into kindney failure at 14.5 years of age and I had to make the hard decision of put her down I never thought I would have to make one like that I thought I would just find her dead one day. So I said my good byes and even though she was laying in a coma from the kidney failure she raised her head and looked me right in the eyes with relief like she was saying goodbye. Now she resides only in my heart and a 2.5 year picture and a 14.5 year picture with he gave her back in pieces poem dedicated to j.r.'s blue june 1994 - dec. 15th 2008. may j.r.'s blue june rest in peace and may god give her enternal life of coonhunting.

Gr Ch, Gr Nt Ch Blaster's Deepwood Sawyer

He was a son of Tree Blaster and grandson of Yadkin River Champ. Sawyer had it all. Huge course squall bawl on track and a hard pounding chop on tree. Quick at both ends with an honest track mouth and accurate locate. As fast as anything I've ever seen go. Would hunt on the run with his nose in the air and still pick up the cold tracks...(I never saw another dog pick up a track behind him) and he wouldn't come back 'till you called him in. He handled in the woods without a lead and was never a problem in the kennel. And he was an incredibly good looking hound.

We say no dog is perfect, but I wouldn't have changed a thing about him. Yes, I'm bragging on him, but he earned it.

He wasn't perfect and I'm sure not everyone will agree but so far my favorite would have to be Ole' Crook. The many hunts we were on in that one short year was enough to leave an impression of what a coondog should be. Rain or Snow --- Hot or Cold were talking Michigan so below Zero he was going to get treed with the meat. Nothing flashy just a bawl mouth blue dog (track and tree). Lets just say home hasn't been the same since he went to Missiouri.

the best all round dog i have seen so far is a female up in michgan that warn own's she can get the job done an do it right night after night. she's getting up in the years now but i would still bet she could tree a coon if put in the woods.

I believe I have had four great one's in my memory. They not all were mine. There was Morgan's boayou Jake, Middle Creek knot Head, Windy Hills Dizzy, & Windy Hills Trinity. I had the the pleasure to hunt with all these dogs on several ocasions, under all conditions. There were none any better, probably many just as good but none any better. jmo

In the last 12 or so years, I have not really been blown away by a dog on any one single night. I am more impressed by the night after night performance of a good dog giving 110% every time.

In 1993 my oldest son was born. At that time my wife worked 3rd shift. I didn't get a chance to hunt when I wanted too. I only got to hunt when my wife wasn't working. Most times it was some of the worst weather. It was either freezing cold, nasty hot, raining like cats and dogs, so foggy that I couldn't see 10 feet, thunder and lightening storms, snowing several inches/hour. During that time I had the privledge to be hunting a dog I called Driver. He treed me coon night after night no matter what. I have had several dogs set the bar higher, but it is the dog that earns my respect by performing no matter what.

Grand nt ch Dyers Buck Creek Tex, this old hound is in many of the Buck Creek dogs you see today. I liked the fact that these dogs were good tree dogs that you could hunt pups with and the pups would fall all over them and they would never even turn their head. Clifford told me one night to keep track of the trees we made one weekend when I was a kid and from friday night to sunday night we made 12 trees saw 9 coon(singles) 2 dens and 1 slick. I'll take that any day.

I didn't own a hair on the best 3 I ever seen go.

1. Dual Gr Backwoods Screamin Zipper, must have carried coons around in his pocket cause he always seemed to find one no matter how bad it was outside. Accurate stay put treedog.

2. Dual Gr Lewis Little Joe, accurate, track drivin Walker dog.

3. Dual Gr Lewis Trudy, best honest strike dog I have ever seen bar none, coondog all the way around.

I never owned one that would be in that category, just wish I could. Maybe one day I will.

Jerry's Winns Lumber was a coon treeing machine.

Baumbach's Pulpwood was my personal favorite. He had speed that I haven't seen since.

Watson's Buck. Judged him at Michigan State Championship. All Coondog.

Jack Rutz Curley dog. Tree coon all night every night.

Nt.Ch. Black Swamp Hawk. One of my personal favorites that I raised. I treed 175 coon with this dog in the fall before his first birthday.

Nt.Ch. Vance's Flint River Chief. A dog we sold to Curtis Vance and later bought back. A coon treeing machine.
